They know what is coming. I spent probably 20 days scouting on my last tag and saw tons of bulls all the way up to the Sunday before the hunt. And then all of a sudden they were gone. Saw a fraction of bulls and ended up passing on several smaller bulls and eating tag soup.

Good luck. That is a fun hunt. I have had the tag a couple times and have helped a few other times. I have seen some monsters while scouting. They seem to know when that late season hunt starts though and become scarce.

I would go to the bow shops in town and shoot several of them. Find what fits you and you like and then start scouring the internet and find a used one. Everyone will have a different opinion to which is best. Good luck.

Well apparently we need to start a new thread and have a CWT prospecting outing. I agree with the above post about learning to rope first on a dummy.

I also have the Zeiss HD5's on both of my main hunting rifles. I used to have Vortex on all my rifles until I had a low light situation that cost me a mountain lion and I upgraded everything.

Can you imagine if the other states had gone differently and the entire country was waiting on us to hand count all those votes. They would have an absolute meltdown.

Fox News was even talking about how slow Arizona is. Florida has about 3X the voters and had almost all the votes counted within a couple hours of the polls closing. I keep checking the numbers and Trump is slowly pulling away with every update. It is nice to see us back to red. Now to get Lake to keep closing the gap.

Those first pictures did that buck no justice whatsoever. I wouldn't even think it was the same buck. I have a 165 buck and was definitely thinking mine was bigger. Than those field photos showed up. Wow. Not sure about score but I wouldn't pass it up on the late hunt for sure. Congrats to the hunter.

Great thread! I have had this exact conversation with friends recently. I always thought as I got older I would have more time to do the things I like to do like camping and hunting. But in reality I have less time. I feel like most of my time is planned for me between my kids and grand kids. And if I am idle I feel like I should be doing something work related. Then add on top of that the fact that it is so hard to draw a decent tag that it is hard to get motivated to even hunt anymore. I recently picked up a bunch of brass to do some reloading and don't even feel like loading it because I will never be able to use it. Hopefully when the grand kids get old enough to hunt it will re-energize me. Only a few years to go.

I remember them from my Air Force days working on the jets. Every fastener had to be safety wired. GLWS

I never thought I would see the day that you can't draw turkey with 5 pts. It used to be every couple years max.

You have better make sure that you have a rifle stock that is rigid enough to handle the force of leaning into your rifle when shooting. I missed the biggest buck of my life in Mexico because of a bipod. It ended up pushing the fore stock into the barrel which caused the rifle to be off. I didn't learn what happened until I got back to the home and took it out shooting. It never even crossed my mind that could be an issue. So I will stick to my pack or shooting sticks. But I do have a Harris 25S that is pretty nice.

Great thread. Elk hunting can definitely be a humbling thing. And then there are times where it seems too easy. Congrats on a great hunt. Your son will remember it for the rest of his life and learn from it. You can't say that you didn't give your all.

As I sit here reading this thread getting ready to go to work I can hear the gun shots across the street and cant help but wonder how far they went away from the road to shoot. I am just off Meridian and Ray and they have been flying pretty good this year.

If you set up on the water tanks you might have some competition. If you are seeing them on the trails that is where I would set up.

I was up in Idaho visiting family a few weeks ago and met one of my oldest friends for dinner one night. The conversation turned to politics and he mentioned that his wife was voting for Biden (before he dropped out). Not because of anything other than she despises Trump and thinks he is a womanizer. It amazes me that people are so consumed by their hate for Trump that they will go against all of their beliefs and vote for something that they don't believe in or support. I don't know anyone that comes out and says they like Trump. However, almost everyone thinks he did a great job the last time he was in office.
