WHAT RIFLE TO USE IN UNIT 33?

I would go with the 30-06. I do like the 250 too. It will get the job done. I have seen two big mullie bucks go down with one shot each by the 22-250. Mt best friend killed a 360 bull about two years ago with his 22-250. His brother had used his guns without asking and put the 22-250 in the wrong case. we did not know this until the morning he pulled it out of the case to load it for the first day of the hunt. He killed his bull at 200 yards with two shots. right in the boiler room. He had the four rounds in his sling. and a box of 300 ultra mags in his pack.
  2. I knew the topic would draw some intrest. I hope I do not step on any toes or make anyone to mad at me. I saw 10 bucks taken out of a small area this weekend. We took to three points. I saw one other buck that was a three point hanging in a tree at a camp. the rest that were hanging had only spikes. This is the fight that I could start. I think that people need to let the bucks grow into at least a two pointer before they shoot it. I came across one guy with a spike boned and packed in his pack he said it was over a 6 mile hike out. I think way to much work to kill a spike. I have seen a great fawn crop this year and hope some of those young bucks are replaced. I do know it is all a matter of choice for each to make. I am not preaching but want to make the point that I fill we are hurting our deer population by killing the young spike bucks.

    sleeping buck

Deer will go into distress very easy. When they do it is kind of like shock so he may have been run by something.

    monster 36A or B?

The pictures are posted of the wetstone buck in the photos section
  8. The way I heard it. The lion had been shot and was draped over the mule and the mule pulled it of its back and then kicked its butt. There sure is alot of blood on the cat don't you think. They are real pictures, But of a mule that did not want a dead cat on its back. This is just the way it was told to me three weeks ago when I got the Email sent to me. I do not know for sure what took place. It goes to show that any thing can take place while hunting in the field.

Unit 35A and My first Coues...

Yes I saw it on the news too. Glad you got your buck. I had to tag a spike one year that some guys blew the jaw off of . The bad thing is I heard them say oh it is just a spikje lets go find another buck. The thing did not move for the next 30 minutes it took me to get down to shooting range on it and it stood there so I could get a good life ending shot on it. Once again congrats on a hunt well done. Just email the picture to amanda and she will post them for you .

    "Hunter" preparedness?

The loud talking caughing and smoking is all that bugs me because it affects my hunting if they get to close other than that I am glad to have there help in moving the game. All this last weekend I only used my tripod a little bit mostly because I would get set down and have someone walk up on me while talking to there buddy about an hour and a half after sun rise. My brother and I use our yucca hiking sticks to glass alot also. If we plan on setting an area we break out the tripods. You got to love the guys in full cammo smoking a cigar trying to climb a hill.. I do not want to start a smoking war but to me sent sent sent.

    deer seen

We are seeing around 30 deer a day right now. We went to a spot that we used to see around 60 -70 deer a day and have only seen a total 2 deer in there. We came across a lion lair the area around it is scatterd with deer bones ( no hornes though.). I will start watching this little cave very close from this day on. I do not need that kind of competition in my secret holes.
  13. I have been a bad boy and not shot my 25-06 yet this year. My coues hunt starts next weekend. I know my scope was messed up so I got a new one. Does anyone have any Ideas on how to bore site with out having the equipment. I would like to shoot it today and get it sighted in. If there is no way to do it I will try taking it to a shop tomarrow and pay them to bore sight it for me. I know my dad used to do it with a tack stuck in the wall and you would look down the bore and center the tack and then line your cross hair to that. I am way to shaky to that.

    36C opener

Do you have to remove the tape befor you fire or can you just shoot through it. I saw a guy one time with a green baloon over his to keep the rain out. He said he just got used to removing it before the shot. He did say you could just shoot through it though. He said it made the shot more muffled too. I guess with coues and glassing you can remove it befor the shot anyway.

    Bore sighting advice.

That is about the same way as my dad did it with the tack in the wall. I will give it a shot and see if I can hold still long enough to do it. I will use my bipod and a chair to rest it on. I was planning on shooting it to fine tune it. But I wanted to be close enough to not have to put a bunch of rounds through it to tune it in. It is a rem model 700 And Last year it would take a coues at a great distance with no problem. I shot a mule deer three years ago with it at 600 yards. I moved and the help droped the gun right on the scope. So I was in need of the scope and had forgot until just last weekend when one of my hunters droped his gun in the field. Thank you for the info guy's.

I hope we get to see them soon. I need to know if it is the buck I was keeping for myself for the november hunt. I guided three hunters there on the october hunt. I went over to try and glass him on tuseday and he was gone. If it was the one I was watching then I know you are very proud of that hog.

    Lions or hunters.

I want every one to know I only used the word lion to get everyone to read the post. I am a lion hunter and love to hunt them. And agree with the predator and lion posts above.

    Lions or hunters.

I thought it would be a good topic for discussion. The only reason it has botherd me so bad this year is I saw three good healthy men shoot three spike bucks out of one herd. They are all does in that herd now and no bucks. I even saw one of the spikes nurs on its mom while I was glassing them. They will not be running with there mommy next year and a little bit harder to find.(not much harder but harder). Just a thought I hope this one keeps going and we get some more good input out of it. I have taken one spike also so I am not saying it is wrong at all. Just something I thought about at that moment.
