Scoring coues racks
COUESAZ replied to TREESTANDMAN's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Just take a hack saw and cut them off so all you have is a main frame buck. I am not for sure but I think the main frame is all you measure like that the rest is length and thickness. I could be way wrong on this one. -
This is what we have all been waiting for. Thanks for the great pics Scott. Keep them coming and we will be waiting. By the way I would shoot him.

You are not suposed to look through any of those when you do not want to spend the money. You are in trouble now. I will not look through another pair other than what I got for that reason. Have a great christmass. And if you need to unload those binos to upgrade let me know first OK.

So did you find the flagging you left behind? If you did you just need to take a couple guy's back with you and just start fanning out to try to find him. You should be able to smell him before long too.
-
John I knew you would like those glasses. It sounds like it all worked out for you the way it was intended. I guess my bro tryed getting those glasses from casey to so you got lucky all the way around. He said that there was a guy that offered a better price. I did not have the heart to tell him I turned the guy on to the deal that ended up buying them. Congrats my friend. Did the camper keep you warm enough.

Got a new jeep
COUESAZ replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Amanda if you just buy one of those jump start packs and keep it charged up It could save the day for you. You can even purchase a new alternator and put it in a milk crate behind the back seat with a few extra parts and tools. I have always brought along a few parts and a good set of tools. The parts, tools,And jumper box have all brought me home at one time or another. -
Got a new jeep

Yes nice jeep Amanda. It looks like you are pulled off the road headed to the salt river canyon area. Just north of globe. -
I saw scott's post to amanda about the backpack in the classifides. He talked about his staff he uses. I use one made out of a yucca pole. I make them for my family all the time. My brother and I have used them for years. I still have one I made in high school. I am now 32. It is my wifes now. I use mine to glass off of while walking in the rough coues deer country. It has saved my butt tons of times. We even used them one time to prob a tarp over us in a monster down poor. It was kind of like an old army tent it worked great. This is the first year I have seen other hunters use them. We saw a group that all had them and used them for glassing. Just something to think about. You may think it is just another thing to pack around. You would be shoked to know how much it saves your knees and leggs. So do you use one???

I see him now. That leaf in front of him looks like he is sticking his tounge out at us.
-
Those are way cool. Thanks for posting them for us to injoy and drool over.

Looks like the same one I saw. HAHAHAHAAHa

And to Lark the great huntsman. We will blow up a big picture of good old CHD holding one of his monster mule deer. to hang on his bedroom wall. Very good Lark Very good.

I know lots of guy's that use pack goats. It is done more than you think. I guess I do not care what is hauling my gear if it is not on my back. I would like to see a picture of a goat getting a lion like that mule did.
-
very nice buck guy's congrats on that one. That is also a very well done photo. You could use that as an add.
-
Yes you just sand them until the splinters are gone. I use a dremel tool to make the handel. I saw some one say to use the sports wrap for rackets. I am going to look into that a bit. Other than that mine is just bare wood. I think those staffs will sell just fine. You would be shoked at how many people are looking for something like that. I think you will do well with them up around utah lots of guy's use pack goats up there. I do think a red hot stamp with a coues buck would be a very nice upgrade. I like the look of the burned in names or figures of animals.

I think there is a picture of scotts sheep heerder staff on here someplace. I hope you don't mind me reposting the picture scott. But I think you have a cool set up with your gear and goats.

Here is one I made for my mom to use on her walks and short hikes in the mountains. It is nice and thick with a slight handle carved out for her hand.

If they are not indangered they sure will be after we all make a staff right . I do not want to incourage any poaching And did not know it was against the law. Anyways the ones I make are from the ones just after the rains I let them dry out a bit in my yard after they are blown over by a strong wind of course. I sure hope to find a few more blown over next year too. I do know a guy that grows them in his nursery and get some from him too. If I could get my picture size down I would post some of the ones I have made. I used a dark stain on the ones in the picture.

I like mine to be tall enough to put my binos on while standing up. If that is not important to you than it need to be atleast shoulder length. Get the rubber crutch tip at home depot. drill a hole in it to put a leather lanyard through were your hand will go. To prep them all you do is strip all the skin off and sand it down. I used to do it all whith a knife but now I use a sander. I then spray it with a laquer of some kind to water seal it. I like mine to fit in my hand very nice but yet do not go to thin. I make about 10 a year for friends and family. Have even sold a few on ebay and yard sales. The store baught wood ones are not tall enough and are to heavy for me. I have thought about the fiber glass ones that you can change the size on to pack away in my pack . But i just cant get away from the bond made with my hand made staff. It is like a hunting partner now. I do not go out without it.

Yes it is. I have used mine to shoot from also. If the grass and brush is tall and you are firced to shoot standing up it works great for a dead solid shooting stick. It took me a while to get used to it but now it works well for me using either hand. Just a side note you can get the rubber crutch ends at home depot. And that helps to grip the rocks better. I have seen some guy's wrap rabit fur around them in spots and it seems to be a good tuch.

That crap goes on way to often. I have a friend that took a shot in the shirt as he was going up a steep hill and on all fours. it shot right through the loose part of his shirt hanging between him and the ground. Be safe out there.

I hear it all the time. I like the sound it always gets the blood pumping good. And yes it does mean are busted in most cases.
