Does anyone have any experience hunting with either the Zen Ray or Vanguard Endeaver spotting scopes? I'm curious how they worked under normal hunting conditions. For their cost they seemed to offer a lot of quality. I just don't know how they work in the field.

Lets just make it an even $100.00 and I'll pay shipping to lower 48. That sounds better.

FS, unused FHF bino harness with rangefinder pouch. Never been in field. This is sized small and fits my Vortex Diamondbacks perfectly. Just went with another brand of harness. These are as new. They are in the Foliage Green color. $125.00 and I will pay shipping to lower 48.

Harness and pouch have been sold.

I just came across a book seller with four issues of the Wolfe Publishing magazine Hunting Horizons. This included the premier issue. Is this a magazine that was started and dis-continued after a short time? Just curious, from the photo it looked like a quality magazine.

Thank you sir, I appreciate that.

couesdan, the one you are receiving is the gen 2 model (triclawps).
-
couesdan, if you still looking for a Claw mount. I have a Tri-Claw rifle rest. I don't know if it's the same thing. I used it once and put it away. PM me for details.

A friend of mine sent me a web-link to Air Guns of Arizona. I'm not familiar with air guns but they look pretty sophisticated and powerful. This web-site has a lot of good information. My question is, I live in NM but also predator hunt in AZ where I'm from originally. Can you use an airgun to hunt predators? It looks interesting, I'd like to maybe try it. Next time I'm in the Chandler area I'll have to stop by AOA and see if they'd help an old-timer start out with an airgun.

I thought , maybe most people had gotten beyond basic ciphers and fonts.

Lv2hnt, thanks for the information. I could not find an e-mail address. I'll call tomorrow and plead my case. -
Catalina Mountain sheep relocation: Good Video!
cessna replied to Lv2hnt's topic in Bighorn Sheep Hunting
Excellent video. It's good to see success with the Catalina herd. It also reminded me I had not renewed my membership in the ADBSS (working out of country). I took care of that after I watched the video. I've got some groups here in the four-corners area I'd like to show that video to. I wonder if a DVD copy is available? -
Let me re-phrase myself. Sometimes when we do the best we can at stalking an animal, instead of losing a trophy we've worked hard for. We are able to utilize modern technology to harvest that animal cleanly. Our inability to get closer can be salvaged by our equipment and shooting ability. That is a really good shot on not a large target. The ability you showed in doing the shot cleanly shows your dedication to understanding your equipment well. Again sweet rifle, I would be interested in caliber. Very few hunters I know of could pull that shot off cleanly. I know a lot who say they could, but come up short when the time comes to do it. I do agree with one of the other members, you can probably cut the meat with a fork. I shot a VERY small deer once and it was wonderful tablefare. Again at that yardage and that size target, good shot.
-
That is one sweet shooting rifle to take that javelina at that yardage. Not a big target. It's a lot better shooting than I can do. I really love it when technology out-trumps hunting ability.

Really!

+1 on CMC. Cole does such good work I ship to him from New Mexico. Excellent finished skulls.

Interesting how different states look at javelina. The new New Mexico proclamation under bag limit on javelina says: One javelina, but removal of meat from the field is not required. I find that interesting as a transplanted Arizonian where the meat is looked upon as good table fare when properly taken care of. There's just something wrong about that.

I just returned from hunting unit 24. Javelina population was lower than in past years. Talking with folks living in the area, they indicated Parvo was causing quite a reduction in herd size. I have no way of verifying this, but it seemed like there were fewer than years previous. I've been finding my javelinas the last several years in the grass flats around yucca thicket. Also check the Gold Hill area east of Lordsburg south of the highway. It took a lot of glassing this time. But ended with a nice boar. Good luck.

PRDATR, I ordered a red one from Amazon. I have a hunt coming up in a few weeks, and will take it along. Thanks for the information.

Anyone use a small knife sharpener in your daypack? There are several on the market, don't know which one to try. I carry a small steel, but sometimes a sharpener would help.
-
PRDATR, I always carry a skinning knife with me. I had a business associate give me a Havalon for my BD. I'd rather use the skinning knife. I've used the Havalon for caping a few times, but usually just use my skinner. I'll look deeper into the DMT products. Thanks for the information.
-
PRDATR, after reading your response I looked at DMT's web page. Good looking product. Which one do you keep in your pack?

I've been using 60 grain nosler partitions in my 22-250 on javelina with good success. I recently tried some of the new 55 grain ballistic tip varmint Trophy Series cartridges from Nosler. These seemed to really do well in my rifle. Excellent grouping etc. I understand these are a thinner walled bullet (being a varmint bullet). Could I expect them to not penetrate as deeply as the partitions? I'm just curious, mostly I shoot partitions in everything, not much experience with BT's. Like I said just wondering.
