    Bobcat

Bobcat mount by ACTS Taxidermy Aztec, NM. I like the combination of rock and wood.
  3. I recently acquired a 1910-1912 catalog from Holland & Holland Rifles in England. This scope was advertised for their rifles. The elevation turret is marked in yards. The adjustment in front of the eyepiece is for focus. It does not give the magnification. I thought this was interesting considering the interest in turrets on our modern rifles. Apparently the idea has been around for some time. I thought it was interesting and I thought I'd share.

    Idiot's guide to javelina

Bill, it was a treat and no I did not know about the award. The inscription in my "Asian Hunter" is personal and I appreciated that. Congratulations to you also, I did not know that either. I really do appreciate writers like yourself, who with words take me to far-off places I will never go.

    Idiot's guide to javelina

Bill, I like the rat idea. The cactus was made by a young fellow in your neck of the woods (Tucson). Company called Sonoran Skulls. It looks like he does quite a few prickly pear cactus. My taxidermist got mine from him. We'll see what he comes up with as far as shredded cactus is concerned. Most folks up here in the four-corners area don't hunt javelina. I was raised near the mouth of Sabino Canyon and was always hunting them since I was young. I flew into Tucson a few weeks ago for business and my has things changed. I had not been there in years. Anyway looking at the Skulls web-page he does make a nice prickly pear cactus. I did'nt know if you knew of them or not. I flew into Alamosa a few months ago and was thinking about Brandt. I still enjoy the books he gave me, quite a fellow. Your the one who put me in touch with him. Thank you for that. Someday we'll have to have a drink and talk about the old days in Arizona.

    Idiot's guide to javelina

Bill, the incorrect bite signature on the mount was brought up to the Gentleman who carved the cactus with the bite out of it. He said He was working on correcting that. Meanwhile I will enjoy the mount as it is. I wonder if I could add something to it to make it look more correct.

    More Arizona Wildlife Trophies

Glad you liked them. You will find the other ones in excellent condition and good reading. They should be there Thursday. We were mentioning collecting record books. I have every Boone and Crockett record and awards books, except for the very first all-time book. I have the second one to the current one. That's why I'm trimming my library. I have many really old books about hunting in Arizona. I just found a book I have about Dale Lee and his brothers. They were famous lion hunters in Arizona. A rancher friend of the Lee's got hold of many old photos of them from the family and did a small run publication like a photo album. I got a copy and it really takes you back in time. Anyway I'm rambling. Glad you like the books.

    15X56 Vortex Binoculars

Thanks to all of you. That was a big help, I was hoping that was the case. I will add the 15x56's and enjoy the combination I'm sure. I just finished a javelina hunt in southern NM where the added magnification would have eliminated some stalks on some dark rocks. Anyway successful hunt. I really like the 10's on my neck, but use them on a tripod when I need to look slower and more carefully. I think like you said it's a good combination thanks again.
  24. I'm wanting to add a higher magnification set of binos to my optics bag. These will be primarily used off a tripod. I have a pair of 10x42 binos I use now (both handheld and tripod). Will I notice a big difference in magnification between the 10's and the 15's? Enough to justify the expense. I've not had a large magnification bino before, so just looking for thoughts from you guys who use them all the time and have more experience with larger binos. I do not want a spotting scope. I've always felt long periods of glassing were better with binos. Anyway thank you for any thoughts on this matter.
