I also heard some potential changes coming on a podcast but they didn't say what or if they were positive or negative changes for hunters, Maybe someone on here has some info regarding it

Looking for some input, I'm researching out what units I should put in for this coming draw. I'm on the fence about putting in for unit 7 west, unit 10 and unit 8. This is all going to be for the late rifle bull hunt. I have 0 points, drew a unit 10 late rifle bull tag last year with no luck ( I was the guy that got my truck stuck on the ranch). So seeking advice for this coming draw.. Pro's and Con's for each unit for me. Unit 10 - I'm most familiar with the Big Bo. It sucks paying extra to hunt there though but don't mind it. Unit 7 West - We have a cabin in parks so would be nice to be able to hunt in that area, haven't scouted it before so not 100% sure how well the unit does Unit 8 - Isn't far from the cabin and could be more dry if you hunt lower elevations, which is something to consider after this last storm that we endured. Basically looking at what unit will have better draw odds and better chance to get an elk (don't we all want that) Any type of input is appreciated

I agree, and I was able to draw it back to back years without success. 🙃 First year passed on a bull that I should have taken 2nd morning and didn't see anything else for the rest of the hunt. This year I buried myself in mud / snow opening morning and kind of ended the hunt there

I agree it should be my unit. I'm considering it heavily for that reason and gives me an excuse to go to the cabin all summer and scout. When you say cow tag 0-2 and Bull 3-5 are you thinking late cow and elk? Or October cow hunt?

Was just listening to that podcast on my into work today! Just got a little into 7W before I had to go in so I'll finish it on my way home

Was unable to get out and hunt, unfortunate circumstances but could have had a worse outcome. If not getting an elk was the worst of it, i'm good. Hopefully next year will be the year.

Was finally able to get out yesterday, took two trucks ( Chevy and a Ford for those wondering) to yank me out. Ford connected to me, Ford connected to the Chevy to get it out. Unfortunately the guy recording forgot to start the video so we never got footage of the rescue

I haven’t, thank you for the phone number and I’ll use him as a last resort tomorrow. We’ve got two trucks and a winch etc etc coming, so if we get into some trouble I’ll give him a call.

They’re 35’s. Yeah the angle is a bit weird but we should be able to get creative enough to get it out. We’ve got some help coming tomorrow and we should be able to get it done.
-
Send me coordinates and we’ll start walking that way
-
Yep now it will, when it first happened a little yank would have been able to get me back on the road. The tires found the soupy mud underneath the snow and filled my grooves and then it was over.
-
Thanks for your help everyone. Walked back to camp last night but the truck is still there. Have someone coming up today to help get us out depending on the conditions we may do attempt it today or tomorrow.
-
Yep the wind has picked up here now. Hoping this rain turns to snow soon. If it snows and there’s no wind we’ll be in good shape tomorrow
-
Up in unit 10 right now and it’s been raining for the past 4 hours. Opening morning should be interesting. Good luck to everyone with a tag
-
This ^ and it'll get you entered for a free elk hunt in Utah

I've got a unit 10 hunt coming up on the 29th, going to start raining / snowing Wednesday - Saturday. Hopefully its all snow, rain / mud isn't fun. As long as the elk are active I don't mind, do you guys typically see any difference in the elk pattern?
-
I’m up scouting in unit 10 right now on the ranch and heard shots this morning, 20 minutes later a bull comes in on us about 30 yards away and dies. Cannot locate a hunter if you shot a bull and think it’s yours and can’t locate it shoot me a message. Service is in and out but I’ll check as often as I can.

Here’s some other pictures from the scout

Also found a nice size shed out there as well.

He seemed to be happy that he was able to get it done, it was his first elk, ever. He had some help from other hunters getting all the meat off. It seemed extremely tough out there, we never saw another bull the entire time, didn't even glass up a cow either. Super dry out there and with the full moon they can move so much. Great job getting it done, I'm sure it wasn't easy considering the conditions
-
Yeah he was shot at 4:30 in the evening / afternoon prior. Lasted all night and just a coincidence that he happened to die not too far from us at 7 the next morning.
-
Not sure what you’re asking exactly
-
The hunter was able to locate the bull and was able to harvest all the meat. It was a lower gut shot and the guts plugged the hole and he was bleeding internally hence why we couldn’t find a entry wound or a blood trail. Contacted game and fish while I was out and had service and they came out which was nice to see. Update on the scout, it’s dry up here and we haven’t been able to locate any elk.

Could not locate a entry wound, I didn’t mess with it thinking someone was going to come up on it. Searched for about 1.5 hours looking for a hunter and couldn’t find anyone. By the time I came back He was pretty stiff so I didn’t flip him over. I’ll call G&F and go back and gut him
