Unit 10 is huge. I scouted 2 days to find 2 deer tracks. I've never seen so much land with no deer sign. Lots of pronghorn though. My son drew a youth tag for his first deer there. Can anyone provide any advice on where to just start scouting? I don't need any secret spots or huge deer, just want to get the kid a shot at one. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Also, I haven’t been on a deer hunt in Arizona since 2009. I don’t get out much anymore. I would not take a spike anyway. Anyway, how do you know what my son looks like?

I can see why you think that, but you're 100% wrong. Too bad so many think this way. I also volunteered where my son filled his tag and to pass along anything I have learned to anyone to wants to know. Now someone has asked and I'm helping them out. Therefore I am contributing.

Does anone know of any good areas in the north part of the unit?

The same hunt. Someone I know out of state had their kid drawn for a youth hunt. My son filled his tag on the bluffs, but there were only a few small bucks there, and he got a spike in velvet. We were ok with that for his first deer. But I remember all the days I spent scouting around the unit, although I did not come close to even 1/3 of it. I think anyone coming in cold from out of state has virtually no chance to fill a tag in 5 days. Because it's a kid, I want to help. I know a little about a few spots that had deer back then, but I want to update and increase my knowledge. If the kid fills the tag, that's all the reward I need. Any tips on where to look would be greatly appreciated, and I will gladly share what I know. Thanks!

I just wanted to follow up to tell you guys my son did fill his tag in the Aubrey Cliff area. It was tough finding the deer; they're scattered in little pockets that you have to find, and the area is tremendously huge. I wanted to thank all of you who sent me advice. It helped quite a bit. Greg

I certainly will be glad to exchange info - if I see any elk sign I'll pass it on. I also got the Big Bo permit for my son and myself for archery and will be there this weekend.

I'm hearing some units up there have a bow hunter every 50 yards from someone I know. Maybe they saw another deer.

Yea I was riding down 66 by the Aubry Cliffs and stopped to watch some pronghorn right after a rain. A large dark reddish coyote stepped out, and I was thinking he didn't look right...then he walked over a two track and stopped to look back at me broadside. He looked to be the size of my lab, and I'm not kidding. He disappeared before I could get the spotting scope on him. I did see quite a few coyotes (none looked like the red one though) so I will be taking the rifle with me next weekend. I'll grab a lion tag also.

Yea I know you're right. I didn't research it first - I know there are deer in some of the surrounding units, and it was hard to find a hunt during my son's fall break. Now it's gonna bite me probably.
