having trouble in the unit i hunt need HELP!!!!!
jnobleinaz replied to easymoney's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I say use whatever method you deem fit and legal. I have a buddy who sweated his butt off all sat putting out 7 50lb salt blocks in his deer unit. (desert) and when he called me and was all done I told him he was crazy. The cool thing about our state is that you can do it legally by baiting if you choose which is sometimes the only way to hunt when you get to a certain age. It is really no different than sitting water so i dont think we should tell anyone THEIR way is the only way. So have fun sitting, stalking, glassing, walking, and have a good jolly old time. Lots of Rednek vacation for me this year. Hopefully I dont end up sleeping in the garage. -

I dropped my cashiers check off yesterday. if you go to the Greenway office you need to go to the south side Greenway and go into the Special Services building and make sure it is a money order or cashiers check.

36b dec and my dad drew a sheep no joke!!!! My buddy mark has 12w late -
I make a dry rub with a bunch of different seasonings and then I also make a baste with bbq sauce and seasonings. i do mine around 200-220 degrees with mequite coals for a base and mesquite chunks and some apple chips. You can use whatever wood but I like mesquite. But don't leave it on too long cause it doesn't take much to cook elk. Then when I am done I will vacuum seal the rest and heat it up whenever I'm hungry.

Hopefully you are hungry now.

broadheads you guys are shooting?
jnobleinaz replied to firstcoueswas80's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I have shot 1 deer with rocky mountain revolution (which they dont make anymore), he went 30 yards, 1 deer with a steel force 2 blade, he didnt know what happened and hung out in front of me until he started swaying then dropped. But with the 2 blades I was getting a lot of planing at longer yardage. I still have the 2 above, but also am going to try the tekan II's the blade retention has been improved but I dont really think it matters as long as you have a good shot angle and placement. -
I have had the chance to look through both of these at animals in the field. I have sat behind my minox for hours on end and never gotten a headache. If you put the eyecups all the way in and a towel over your head it works the best. Now for the post topic. My personal opinion is that it depends on what you are glassing for. If it is elk or muleys you wont really see the difference. Last week I looked at elk through both. not much different. The animals colr gives them away. If you are glassing for whitetails, HUGE difference. Last year Brett and I were looking at the same deer at aprox 3/4 mile. The biggest difference is that the swaros have a better edge to the animal and the color is better. I could not believe it. So if you are okay with that conclusion, I am trying to sell my minox 15x58's. I know its a horrible sales post but I have a pair for $595.00. I know I prob wont be able to sell them, and if I cant I might give them to my brother and buy the swaros anyway.

I am sick and tired of hearing about your elk tag!

I love to hear about the "Big Bulls and Bucks" every year. Usually what happens is that people get a glimpse and do not have the time to correctly score an animal. I only will guess a score if I can watch them for a long time. I am like most everyone else if it looks good shoot it! What I think is really cool is talking to an old timer that has the biggest mounts on his wall and doesn't even know what score means. We have a couple customers like that, and it is refreshing. Except asking them to take the mounts down to measure them! lol lol lol -

The only problem I have with a quota system is that you must bring in antlers with skull attached to be valid for archery. Too many antis would catch on and buy tags and call in kills to shut units down. I know they do this we have some customers that have a group that puts in every year to take tags out of the system. i know it sounds crazy but look who we are dealing with. In wisconsin you must check in your deer after harvest. But that might be another "barrier." On the rifle hunts it would not be that hard either. All the hunt success numbers that they put out are not right either. But what can you expect with poor data. I just see a lot of California trends starting slowly here and with the population increases it will only get worse. D king brought up some very valid comments on their data that in a unit that has low success a 1 or 2 deer miscalculation can have very big ramifications. I feel like they are creating more barriers but that is my opinion. -

They said it would be a "Barrier" for hunters to have mandatory hunt reports. That is my biggest bitch. You want to restructure hunts then get some good data to do so. I am like most of you guys I put in for deer but buy an archery tag anyway and like having the choice on what unit I like to hunt in. To me it is no more of a "Barrier" than having to fill out an application for a tag to have a mandatory report once they started it everyone would get used to it. But taking away the chance to go out in dec is a joke. I don't know if you guys know but there are some anti's that buy tags and report kills also. -

I guess I am really pissed off this morning after going to the Phoenix meeting last night I kept hearing the same thing. Oppurtunity Oppurtunity. But the biggest part that gets me is like people have said before is the way they collect their data. The numbers can no way even be close to what they say with the small percentage of hunters that respond. And then in the same breath they said they really dont need to have accurate numbers for herd control. But the numbers do seem to be enough to change hunts around. That is totally unacceptable to me I kept asking for as I have done via email to get mandatory reporting through, but the same old answer is that is to inconvenient for hunter retention and recruitment. Dont send me a survey card send me a return envelope and I will send my tag back if unused or a card with my kill info. If I dont, no hunting for me next year. We need them to do something and the changes they are making are disguised as small but down the road they could be devastating. I DO NOT believe that they will give those archery areas back to us if the numbers fall below there target area because we already know they dont need accurate numbers for herd control. What a joke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!All you archery guys that didnt go there are a lot of units where they want to drop dec bow hunt. -
My brother and I will be at the phoenix meeting on june 18 from 6-8 hopefully everyone else will be there. I have a wife 2 kids and a job like everyone else so there is no excuses unless you work nights.

HERE'S YOUR CHANCE TO VOICE YOUR OPINION!!!!
jnobleinaz replied to rthrbhntng's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
What I would like to know is where and why are they coming up with all these changes. Is it wrong to offer good trophy units? I also want to know if the fees are the same for a nov archery hunt vs a sept. they shouldn't be. But in the end I would like someone to come to me with a valid answer and step by step reasoning for all these proposed changes. Most people that are casual hunters do not know that we have been one of the best managed states for wildlife. But just like those guys I know that have trucks that run great stock then they start adding chips and turbos and tweaking their system usually end up with a problem. -

I also think that the way they did these surveys was a little tricky.. They are asking these questions and a lot of people are not thinking of the outcome after they have typed or sent in their answers. When someone is frustrated at not drawing a tag they are inclined to put down more opp. They should have had the answer to type in more opp with a crowded crappy hunt. I myself do not like to hunt with tons of people in the field so I always vote against these. I just don't understand why they are messing with this stuff all it will do is frustrate people. There are people that like to go on the early hunts and that is great. So adding more hunters to their hunt and taking away from the trophy hunts just makes no sense. -
These are a pair of Minox 15x58 with soft and hard case also box. These are 1.5 year old and I am asking 750.00 They are in great condition no scracthes.

Favorite part of hunting?
jnobleinaz replied to firstcoueswas80's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
My favorite part is in the morning right before you can see really well then my mind starts making shapes into animals and not knowing what you will see in 10 minutes. Staring your eyes to make out what you are looking at. Hearing the noises close by and letting my mind go crazy with anticipation. Sounds corny but thats it for me. Then when you find an animal makes it all that much more rewarding. -
I switched to a vertical one pin sight made by Sightmaster and I love it!!! My 2 buddies showed me the sight and it is sweet. You can only order them online and are not sold in stores they are out of montana if I remember right. But the pin can be moved from 15 to 100 yards in a snap. Very rugged construction also. I will never shoot anything else now. Way way easier than looking through side mounted sight. Anyway my 2 cents

No More Motorized Retrieval Az Big Game
jnobleinaz replied to rthrbhntng's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
This plan is a total joke!!!! If you look at these maps all of the roads would be closed except the main ones. Everyone needs to write in and express their feelings on this. The areas that I like to hunt you would need to walk huge distances to get there. I don't have a fricken horse ranch. This especially sucks cause the age of most hunters is of the older age group and they still want to hunt these areas but hiking that far would be out of the question. And as most of you know if these guys quit applying for hunts we lose power in our voice. Lets all get the job done and let everyone know to do as much as possible to prevent any of these closures.
