Draw for Archery Deer from now on....
jnobleinaz replied to muley's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I didnt mean "hobby hunters" to degrade anyone. I just know people that go buy a bow and shoot it twice and then get an archery tag and head or the woods. Last weekend we saw a guy on a quad with his son on the back. His son who is a teenager had his bow WITH an arrow nocked driving a road. It was in one of the units that would be a draw. Come on thats a joke. I think people get what i meant when I said that. In these units people that draw them will not have to deal with a bunch of the bs that goes on. -
Draw for Archery Deer from now on....
jnobleinaz replied to muley's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I am of the opinion that they made the changes and we have to deal with it now. i went to meetings and listend but they made the stupid changes. Now for the future what I think will happen. You will WEED out the hobby hunters with a bow. People will make a choice do I want to use a rifle or a bow. The true archery hunters will not blink an eyelash. I for one cannot say that I will put in for archery deer only. But I know guys that will. The BIGGEST problem I have with the whole process is the way they collect the data. It's a joke! But that said we are where we are. We will deal with it and I dont know if anyone noticed but you will be able to archery hunt 13b now which we couldn't before. -
Anyone seeing lions while out scouting?

we spotlighted two cats last night following a heard of cow elk. Pretty cool -
This is my friend Jim Mccain's opening day antelope. Today at 4:30. Yes he did have some misses on some monsters but he really didn't care about score. The misses were from the bucks jumping the string at 63 and 51 yards. He is a GREAT shooter. These dang things are jumpy. When he arrowed this buck he ran about 400 yards and went down then got up took off, and we relocated him and he finished him with a final sneak and follow up shot. I was videoing the hunt but I am not too impressed with my skills. You guys that can video are studs it is way harder than most of us think. We had an awesome time!

Awesome velvet desert muley!!!! You have some guts dealing with the heat. That pic needs to be on an old spice red zone deodorant magazine ad. no joke.

I like seeing them lookin nice fat and healthy.

Those are some great pictures Jim and its nice to hear opinions on the machines. I like the rangers the best and have ridden in all three but its just because you can fit 3 adults or a family with 2 adults and 2 small boogers on the front seat.

Those are some awesome pics.

I was looking at my first post and I had the bucks in backwards order cause I was in a hurry. So 195 non typ and 187 on the typ. The spread is wide but they appear short and the g2's are nice but to get over the 190 mark on a typical you have to have a ton of length on everything. And the non typ has shorter tines. Oh well hopefully someone with the pics shoots him and we can get an idea how to score velvet bucks. This is fun though.
-
heres a 185 right and 208 left remember the velvet always make em look bigger
-
I would say the top buck would be close to 195 and the bottom buck at 187.

Hey I just got my 10-15x50 duovids today and I am very pleased with everything I received from Doug. Fast service and courteous help. I would recommend these guys to anyone.

I think it is a great idea but I will be taking the time to go to the actual classes with my daughter. Especially like Kgaines said that to comprehend the class online for a ten year old without parent supervision and explanation might be a waste of the youngsters time. But on the other hand most of the kids nowadays are just as much or more computer literate as their parents.

I also tested these tonight looking at the mountains all around my house and the difference is pretty drastic. Mostly in the detailed outlines of the objects. My minox are good but the leicas are much better. I am very happy with these and got a great deal on them also. I have to wear glasses or contacts but I have an eye condition that only lets me wear contacts for a few days. the leicas worked a lot better for me than the swaros did with my glasses on. I just didnt want o start another debate I just went with what fits me the best. The clarity is so sharp I cant wait to use these in the field. Also I can use 10x and carry one pair of binos. We needed another pair of 15x anyway for my dads sheep hunt. later John

Spending time in a tree stand ?
jnobleinaz replied to Big Browns's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
i have hunted out of treestands and I dont take anything that causes noise. Taking a leak out of your stand doesn't hurt anything. I would recommend that you do not go too high. If you can get up fifteen feet you are good. The higher you go the more drastic your shot angle. Also remember to practice shooting at that angle. Your arrow will hit at a totally different spot than if you are on the ground.. They make some really good pendulum sights that are just a knob that you loosen to let your sight level out. I have never used one but they take all the guesswork out. Try to be as still as possible I wouldnt recommend any books or having anything in your hands that you have to put away when a deer comes in. Also get a good bow hanger that swings out to make it easier to get your bow. Or use a bow hanger that fits on the bottom of your stand. Movement is the key. Have fun. Also remember to always have your safety harness on. -
My advice would be for around the neck binos check out the leupold pinnacle's. I have the 8x42's and they are great. the eyecups block out the light. They are very clear and crisp and only 500 bucks. I looked at through a ton of binos before I got these. I feel unless you are staring through them for hours the good middle of the road ones work great. Especially for 8x. I will sit and knee glass with these and have great results. So anyway if you are not using a tripod these are great but everyone has a different view. Whatever fits you the best.

%$&^#$% Camera Thief
jnobleinaz replied to Big Browns's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
I have a friend who is an electrician and he made a box to put his camera in out of high test cable and some type of lock box. I will try to get the info on what exactly he used but if someone steals that camera they earned it. Some people will steal anything but I would think hunters would be more courteous. I saw a water hole that had 2 cameras on the same tree. I thought it was pretty funny but also pretty cool not to screw with the other guys stuff. -
