  1. It took a while to get the hang of shooting off bipod and getting a cheek rest set up but I think I am getting it sorted out. Using a Seekins Precision Havak Pro Hunter PH1 6.5 C and Hornady 140 ELD match. Video is a 500 yard target and the orange center is 2.5 inches.

    Suppressed rifles

What is the benefit of a trust vs individual? I could be wrong but I think without a trust if you leave the can at home and you leave and another adult is in the house they could possibly be breaking the law? Maybe it doesn't apply if it is in a safe though. I'm sure it has to do with possession outside of the home. Lets say if your wife or kids are at home while you are away then they can not have access to your "can'. You have to have it locked up and no one should be able to get to it in safe or whatever.

  6. How many here have successfully hunt AZ whitetail deer in AZ in every decade going back to 70's ? 60"s ?

    How many Decades ?

I like it. Took my first deer on my 4th hunt in 1975, deer taken with 30-06 SPFD 03 built between the wars (WWI &WWII) Lyman 4X scope was 10 years older than I was. 8 tracks were pretty new at the time of my first hunt.
  8. Hmmmm from low ballers, to B "s massaged? BTW graduated in 74, been bagging Coues since 70, but only here since 6 mo ago. Oh well I'm still buying new or shopping around if you re asking near full retail for your used stuff. If all you are getting is low ball offers that could mean decent folk don't like your price and being decent don't care to counter and offend you.
  9. Hard to tell but looks like post 64 push feed. The one view of the bolt does not indicate any evidence of claw extractor.

    It has been bugging me…

I disagree, heres an example, a bull elk that you have watched for years and you finally draw the tag for the unit he lives in, so you go out and see him, you shoot. The shot is a perfect lung shot, but he just stands there, what are you going to do , just sit there and watch him gasp for air then run off, nooooooooo! you are going to get as many more shots in him until he goes down!!! thats called being an ethical hunter! I agree with you that if a person doesn't go out to the range and practice with their rifle and make sure that it is sighted in then you shouldn't be hunting, but if you do and the animal needs another shot to do the trick then you should put that shot in!!! I am offended that you said this because im sure that you and everyone else on this site has taken more than one shot at an animal at least once! I practice more than most because I shoot in competition, but you cant predict what is going to happen in the field unless you have a crystal ball!!! I have had to shoot more than once a couple times, and I am not ashamed of it, I do wish I wouldn't have had to take those extra shots, but it happens, it is called hunting!!! Hmmm I believe from the description your first shot killed this Elk, he just did not go down right away. Of 4 elk I have bagged 3 took follow up shots to stop. In all cases first shot a killing shot square through the lungs. Feel no shame, as all good clean shots at acceptable ranges with 30-06 180 gr.

    Down hill shot question

Having given this shooting at an angle some thought over the years I have developed a strategy. I did get a range finder that corrects for angle and found I did not use it enough to keep all the different mode & displays straight. So I left the laser ranger on the straight line of sight distance mode. Did this because in the heat of battle what I really needed was 250 vs 300 vs 350 vs 400 (past 400 needed more thinking time than just simple estimation). With a cross hair that has some kind of marks, hold a little under when shooting 20 degrees +/- bellow level. I figure when your angle is a 1/3rd to 1/2 bellow level Hold like its almost 40 yards closer. Have only used strategy twice at 300 yards, worked out well.

    Hornady 6.5 PRC

more 270 Winchester FED Fusion 150/.270 700 yard drop 16.5 MOA HORNDY Superformance 140SST/.270 700 yard drop 13.5 MOA HORNDY Prec Hunt 145ELDX/.270 700 yard drop 14.5 MOA 6.5 Creedmoor HORNDY Superformance 129SST/.264 700 yard drop 17 MOA HORNDY Prec Hunt 143ELDX/.264 700 yard drop 15.5 MOA Having shot a 60 round prone match with 270, yea you feel the recoil before its done. Shooting 270 in a Precision Rifle Match I did not notice recoil. Range time, hunting shots with 270 recoil not much of a factor. Shooting my 6.5 Creedmoor recoil is non existent I will give you that. FED Fusion 150/.270 $19 box very accurate HORNDY Prec Hunt 143/.264 box $29 box

    Hornady 6.5 PRC

OMG you are going to make me work. Ok from my match and range notes I have hand loaded berger 140/.270 out of custom sendero at 700 yards drop 15MOA. Seekins Havak 6.5 Creedmoor Hornady Match 140 ELD 17MOA drop.

    Hornady 6.5 PRC

What speeds are you running your .505 BC? The drop chart works out when iI put in a MV of 2950fps. Thats out of a 24 inch tube and a couple grains shy of max load
  15. AZAV8ER

    Hornady 6.5 PRC

I don't get it. 270 WIN shoots right with the non magnum 6.5's. Why complicate it? Built a "Sendero" style rifle and decided was easier to get it in 270 VS 6.5/284. Presto a little H4831, Berger 140 VLD's and 1/3 MOA rifle thats has less drop than 6.5 Creedmoor and equal to 6.5 PRC.

    One Caliber in Arizona

grew up on 30-06 in SPFD and latter MOD 70 classic. many deer and elk taken with 165 and 180 Sierra GK. Won a MOD 70 Classic 300 MAG at Elk foundation dinner, after just over 100 rounds of factory ammo that was not that accurate sold it and got 30-06 in same gun. Nicer to shoot, easier to load and make accurate, affordable ammo and gives up very little to any others out to 400yrds. Now shooting 270 using Hornady superformance 140 SST for deer. Both nice to shoot and good quality ammo options at different price points and if you are not shooting into next hunting unit do the job.

    Trying to decide....?

I have used both the Vortex and Leupold scopes and got a LRP 6.5-20 for my GF. FFP at this point might not mean a whole lot to a new shooter, Leupold has a nice knob to easily zoom magnification up and down, a must to reduce frustration for new shooter trying to acquire target and elevation dial easy to understand. Only other thought is less magnification to make target acquisition and eye alignment with ocular lens less frustrating.
  20. So the all lets get along, cumbayah progressives are going to push all of us non globalist group thinkers to come up with our own sites. Great, driving wedges between groups, creating more tribal divides. Yep very enlightened tyrants BLAHHH !!!
  21. What kind of hunts have you had in 35B last 5 or so years?
  22. My brothers and I plus a few friends have hunted this area since 1978. Since late 90's the acorn crop has disappeared, in the last couple years seen seeps and wet spots come back. We see plenty of does and fairly good fawn numbers, we see bucks also but nothing much bigger than modest 3X3. I had one guess and that was that bigger bucks just plain hide out more.
  23. Picked up this MOD Classic 270 WIN used a couple years ago. Had good luck with Federal Fusion 150's and after mounting new Zeiss Terra 3X 4-12 tried for some 4 shot groups. Rifle is as is from factory with a Bell & Carlson CNC'd aluminum bedding block in synthetic stock. Bottom picture of black steel is 3 shots at 500 yards and the orange target dot is 2 inches.
