my Leupold going strong after 6 PRS matches and shooting sessions between, If it craps out will let you know.

Just put a Leupold VX-3i LRP on my new Bergara HMR PRO 6.5C put one round into bottom of orange dot then dialed left 4 MOA up 4 MOA right 11 MOA down 4 MOA lastly left 7 MOA and last shot in box test at bottom of orange within .5 inch first shot. So far this Leupold shows repeatable accuracy. After box test dialed up zero .5 MOA and got two rounds dead center on top of each other and a third shot just right center.

For the above two discussions a thought jumps out, well two thoughts. Differently constructed bullets require a minimum and maximum velocity window to perform well. If you have a bullet that opens up at low velocity it will need enough energy to penetrate and do the job? One thing I have noticed about long range shots is that in some terrains cover it becomes difficult to just walk over and find the exact spot your animal was at when you shot. Without a spotter to guide you in its sometimes not so simple. When you find that spot an exit wound (energy) is almost a must if you have to do any tracking.

Very Very nice MOD 70. Clean, with all the sights intact, classic Winchester caliber in a rare Featherweight configuration. That there is a true collectable, might have to go to a bigger audience to get full value. You could look at Utah Gun Exchange auction sight. They cover Utah, AZ, Nevada, Colorado, Idaho and maybe Wyoming shooters. IMHO to get full value you want to find a serious collector that is knowledgeable and appreciates these older classics and has the money to pay up.Thats a finite population. Good luck very nice WIN MOD 70.

What is the season on lions?

I concur 100 percent and have the same book quoted from. As an aside the standard grades were made with 26" barrels most of which were of stainless steel for the most part although some were standard forged chrome-molly ie., Winchester proof steel. Steel Buttt-plates were standard on the standard model but recoil pads were a no cost addition. The rifle pictured is 100% percent correct in every-way. . I am a little surprised. Are you saying Winchester used SS in Pre 64 MOD 70 barrels?

Can you get by with a 4RUNNER or a Sequoia? I had this discussion with my brother yesterday and his thoughts were that the alternative Toyotas were less costly for equal miles & years. He got his 2006 Sequoia with 160K mi for 8K

I have a pair, don't think I ever used them much maybe once. I am in N PHX 7St and Bell rd

I have been shooting a Leupold VX-3i LRP 8.5-25X50 and a same in LRP 6.5-20X50 in matches for Silhouette, PRS and NRL rifle matches. Lots of dialing up and down. After a thousand rounds no repeatability issues. I just mounted a VX6 3-18X44 on my 270WIN limited rounds so not match experience dialing up and down.

I began using those steel lockable tool boxes. RIDGID or TRINITY $200-$300. They are around 42 inches wide and less than two feet deep. If you have the room in the house they are great.

Wow that takes me back. When I started loading almost 50 years ago that was my Dad's go to load. I took my first buck with just this load, IMR4320 and a flat base Sierra 150gr spitzer. Looking at my notes I also find .02 off the lands give or take is what worked in my rifle. Would agree, my experience is that flash hole clean up does help.

First time scouting this season, first mountain lion spotted

Yikes, I have seen pug marks before. One evening my brother came into camp right behind me and had a cat run across the trail right it front of him. Very special, time to get your lion tag? -
Are you using the lead sled for 300 yard shooting? I have had good groups at 300, but also not easy keeping keeping control of recoil/muzzle jump when shooting 30-06 with 180's. Of all powders RL22, IMR4831, AA4350, IMR4350 and H4350 my best groups were from H4350. I have heard of shooters having good groups at 100 yards and then having them scatter at longer ranges. Never experienced this not sure what would cause that. Good luck.

Sierra 180 BT GK with a near max H4350 load per a Speer manual from early 1990's Sierra 165 BT GK with a near max H4350 " " " " " " My MOD 70 Classic 30-06 from early 1990's tolerated near full loads, groups were from 1.25 to just under an inch.

M1 Garand and 400 rounds of M-2 ammo ......price amended.....delivery options

Thanks for the History Lesson Professor. Remember that this is a Coues Hunting site so drop the grumpy lecture attitude. BTW in my limited experience firearms collecting a general date like the start of war has not made any import on collectability. Its specifics like did that Sharps Carbine or Colt Revolver come from the factory in time to be at Gettysburg? Did that Sharps rifle fit the serial number range to be issued to Berdan's Sharpshooters? Was that SPFD 1903 manufactured in time to go to France for WWI? For a Garand one would ask, could that rifle have been at The Battle of the Bulge? Or like IA Born said was it manufactured in the war timeframe at all. -
guess I'M JUST A PECKERWOOD WHO LIVES IN THE HILLS WITH TO MANY GUNS your BRUTAL firsty, but you still did not address my questions Full points for snarkiness ZERO points for addressing the issue To compete at distance with the 6.5s and 7mms the .277 needs a high BC bullet like the 165 gr. Matrix (BC about .630) loaded with Alliant rl 26 you can push it to about 2900 fps in a 24 inch barrel and it makes the old 270 win. a thumper, but its the only high BC bullet made for the 270 which is why it isnt as popular with the guys who shoot long range. "The 170 gr. EOL needs a 1/8 twist barrel and then you are limited to the heaviest bullets made for the 270" Per Bartlien barrels Thanks for info, but was mostly talking about 270WSM

How big a difference? Recoil? You have similar weight bullets going near similar MV and .013 bore difference, how much worse is recoil? Dope? at 800 yards you have to dial up for the 6.5 lets say 15 MOA of dope, for the 270 you are saying its to big a challenge to dial 2-3 more MOA? Wind drift. Now the advantage creeps in, but at 800 yards you still need to get the wind right. If you get it wrong by more than 3 mph 6.5 won't save you, now just a gut shot vs nice clean through and through the lungs. Guess you can hope that gut shot catches a lot of liver and you can track for 50-70-120 yards. At 800 yards don't you still need to get your distance, wind and drop calculation spot on? 308 or 7MM RUM don't you still need to dope accurately? Is clicking up 60 clicks that much harder that dialing up 70 clicks?

I get that .264 is sexier (but for me not by near enough) than the .277 (.013 must be a heck of a magical difference). KISS go with 270WSM, heck Hornady 270 WIN 140 SST Superformance has a MV of 3100FPS. Hornady 270 WIN PH 145 ELDX going out the muzzle at + 2900 FPS. Yeah Yeah 6.5 does this and that better (fractionally) but when its all said and done the 6.5 short whatever and fat 2boot still needs a dial up and a wind calculation at 600, 700 or 800 yds no different ( well a COUPLE clicks different) than the 270 WSM. So if complicating things and sweating this and that is fun have at it but the WSM 270 is an easy solution. I get it no bragging rights in something available and mundane.

Evidently the Dino extinction was not "big trouble". Having duck hunted all my life its been evident to me that some waterfowl are highly adaptable and some are very sensitive to just a narrow slice of environment. Take Mallards they are all over, very adaptable, then Canvasbacks are very particular and thus not doing well. Buzzards are still around a lot but Condors are obviously struggling with the changes. we should be sensitive to our environment and what we affect but at some point observe, analyze do our best not to make things worse but if Condors go away Vultures still fill that niche. The Mexican Grey Wolf is a great example. Turning ourselves inside out to reintroduce when its just a tough environment in the southwest. We have Lions, Bears, BobCats, Coyotes and hunters all doing ok. Maybe the wolves just don't fit anymore? Sad but true. Look there is no bringing Grizzly's back to the AZ or central CALI, just not practical.

Toyota Tacoma - Guess who’s comin home!!!
AZAV8ER replied to Non-Typical Solutions's topic in Classified Ads
having my nephew get on the site and contact you he has 97 Tacoma with 157,00 ish mile, SR5 with manual 4X4 v6 extended cab and he is the second owner. He has been good about upkeep, new ignition wires, redid the valve covers, new seals in the axels, that kind of work. Good mileage left on BF Goodrich tires.
