Yikes, No One? -
Are you new to AZ hunting? Have you ever hunted Elk before? Keep in mind some Elk spend their lives in Juniper vegetation zone. Like all hunting you look for cover, feed and water. An effective part of scouting is boots on the ground, bushwhacking for sign gives you a better feel for how well used an area is. Good luck.

No hunting on State land , Locked Gates ?
AZAV8ER replied to marlin's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Over the last couple of years I have experienced two ranchers locking access to USFS land. Locks were put on gates where the access road crossed private property, these were USFS roads and were the only access point to public lands. According to the AZGF access coordinator in that district it is legal to deny access to public lands. One rancher got peeved with the state and feds and in a fit of frustration decided to block access. The other "rancher" is a super wealthy individual who happens to own "The Outdoor Channel" and locked his gate for no other reason than he could. -
covid-19 poll-numbers of confirmed statewide infections by 08/01/2020
AZAV8ER replied to biglakejake's topic in The Campfire
Gimme a break, that is "Confirmed cases" which means people sick enough to get the test. There are way more that didi not get that sick or had little to no symptoms, so way more cases than "confirmed cases". I have seen charts that say 80% little to no symptoms. -

It is not 100% deadly, so she could have had it. -
Thank goodness for Climate Change. Changing back to when we got this much runoff regularly.

Colorado deputy escaped the jaws of a mountain lion
AZAV8ER replied to Non-Typical Solutions's topic in Mountain Lion
That appears to be a healthy lion. -
I grew up with a camp kitchen box similar to that but a bit smaller. It looks a little roughed up on the top and table. If you could easily reinforce I say go for it. Heck how much you going to get for it anyway? My advice is he should have you go for it, there is no downside.

With a zeroed rifle and a Ballistic App with current ambient conditions dial ups are dead on. Hold over marks essentially arbitrary because no one hold over reticle can exactly match your ammo and current density altitude. A good ballistic app like Strelok Pro lets you reference what hold over should like like with your scope and ammo. Still dial up is pretty easy and precise. For both types you can make a quick easy reference card out to 450 yards after that its better to check the ballistic app before the shot.

I have hunted with 30, 284 and 277 caliber SGK's for 50 years. Have processed dozens of deer and several elk. I tended to a lot of shoulder shots (never quite calibrated my eye to get right behind the shoulder) and have excised plenty of ruined meat. Have run across some fragments in the damaged & discarded meat but its been a rarity. Never found lead bits in the meat I kept and have a difficult time imagining tinny bits you can't see having the mass and velocity to travel beyond the wound channel. I do tend to go slow and liberally trim out damage meat and keep a tidy table avoiding contaminated meat getting near the clean stuff. Oh well to late anyway I am 65 retired from a successfully completed & demanding 40 year aviation career, but who knows maybe lead contamination effects kept me from achieving Top Gun School. -
I am sorry you have to deal with this. Sadly the young man was likely going to find a way to checkout one way or another. Its' you dilemma that he crossed your path on his fated journey. I for one am glad you shared, it makes me consider selling any handgun through an FFL and get a background check, never would have considered that before but your experience has been sobering to say the least.

Thanks for the catch. The story popped up in my news feed and never thought to look at the date. I will be mindful of that in the future.

RIFLE FOR SALE- Tikka T3x-BRAND NEW-Never Fired- with a Swarvoski Scope

Dang up to my ears in 270's -
I had a 7-08 REM Mod 7 for several years. It was lite and "compact" yet fit me fine as a full sized adult. It was a very handy rifle. I could load 130 gr speers reduced velocity or load 160 gr for elk. My vote 7-08 Tikka.
