The safe it's in needs to get un-buried (in a corner with lots stored in front of it) before I can get the gun out, will work on that today.

I have a Charles Daley Trap gun from back in the 70's. Over under and solid tight gun. Miroku made them and when Daley discontinued Miroku made the same gun for Browning and called it the Citori. Its an over under.

Yellowstone tourists react as wolves gang up on grizzly bear
AZAV8ER replied to HorseHunter's topic in The Campfire
Neither side wanted to find out how far the other was willing to go. Bear can afford a certain amount of damage, a single wolf can afford zero injuries, how many pack members is Alpha wolf willing to loose? I guess nothing was worth going "to war over" that day. If it got serious bear rips the pack up quite a bit but if all 11 dive in bear might sustain to many injuries. I believe we call it Mutually Assured Destruction. -
Bipod Height for Southern Units
AZAV8ER replied to broadhead's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I have taken several 300y shots off my bino tripod. https://www.swarovskioptik.com/hunting/-c20040102/universal-tripod-adapter-p5504085 I just unstrap the binos from the rest and lay my rifle in the indentation in the middle of the platform. Lots of 200y shots using backpack. -

Another factor in Mt Lions spreading out is young toms looking for their own territory. Mature toms control a big area and kill or drive out any young males. Consider there are more MT lions in AZ than there have been in 100 years.

Frustrated newbie seeking advice
AZAV8ER replied to Calebwalter's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
36B for a number of years then 35B for last 30 years. Up until early mid 90's always a heavy abundant acorn crop and bucks had layer of fat on their rumps. Since mid 90's nada, hardly any acorns and bucks carried little or no fat and deer a lot fewer. -

I have not seen acorn crop to speak of in 15 years. Have you seen acorn crop to speak of any time recently? -

Correct. The energy in a high velocity copper bullet upon smacking hard rocks is converted into heat, which means molten copper. Lead bullets just don't generate as much fire potential because its a softer metal with a lower melting pot. Dirt absorbes the energy differently and does not results in hot molten copper slag.
-
Keep in mind that an all copper bullet smacking a hard rock has the greatest potential for starting a fire.

Exact same for me. Needed to get glass right before a hunt a couple of years ago and ran down to Cabela's to check out the options. I was looking at the Meoptas the BX5 and Swarovski. Leupold's were heavy and felt clumsy looking through. Swaros just enough better looking through than the Meoptas but not twice the price better. Very pleased with my Meopta 12X50's.

The Trapdoor Carbine and the M16 also shared a common flaw, both rifles would jam with fired cases stuck in the chambers.

CampTime Roll-a-Cot. I am 5'11" 200lbs and these cots work great , very comfortable easy to set up and pack up. First used them on a Wester River Expeditions Colorado River trip. They were great to sleep on and figured if an outfitter used them they must be sturdy. Bought ours 5 years ago and never slept so well in deer camp and thats going back 40 years of hunting.

I shot a bull low in the ribs behind front leg, this was rifle hunt and it was 180gr 30 cal at 370 yards. I just was able to track it and found him collapsed at least 250 yards up the mountain. A double lung shot with the bullet up against the far side hide. His chest was full of blood and his lungs were both collapsed. Made a big impression that bulls dead on their feet can cover some ground. Interesting your dad's bull made it about the same distance.

Did they know you were there? Are atvs allowed off trail in NF?
