Done several 3+ mile pack outs. Breakdown was filleting shoulders off rib cage, carving hams off the pelvis and running knife along top of spine and down the ribs to fillet out backstrap. Skin and saw off the boney ends of the legs. On a good cargo pack lay a ham cross ways on the bottom of the cargo platform and lay a shoulder above it on the pack frame. Meat was wrapped in cloth elk bags and lashed to the frame. I would leave the bone in to expose less meat to the air and it made for a load that I could lash down & did not just slump to bottom of pack. It would take at least two loads to do, but still have your camp gear if you backpacked in. Having convenient terrain/trail for pack out made my trips easier to do. Older and wiser now and would arrange a packer to drop me off and come back and pack out or just arrange a pack out ahead of time.

My 31 year old son just went through this process. I was going to suggest a Bear Grizzly around 50#-45# but he went with a budget priced takedown recurve carried by his local archery shop. He is starting with 30# limbs and figured he can move up in weight as his form and confidence build. He is enjoying it and happy he chose trad over compound. Once you get the weight bow that you can shoot well with its just a matter of the right length/spine arrow. I shot a recurve and a reflex/deflex semi long bow for several years. Maybe the long bow was smoother but enjoyed shooting both bare bow. After a couple seasons hunting with them I switched to traditional black powder round ball ML. Spot and stalk with a 60-100 yard effective range was much nicer.

doing on line on my phone drives me nuts. Zooming in on my laptop made out what looks like G##### number and its similar to my SS 30-06, which put mine in first year or two of the New Haven Classic production. -

It's a MOD 70 classic action. The one picture you can make out the claw extractor. The serial number from its font size and number of digits makes it early 90's New Gaven production. -
Trigger pull weight on long range hunting rifle?
AZAV8ER replied to loboscout's topic in Long Range Shooting
I did hunt with 3lb and then got to using 2lb for NRL22, PRS, silhouette and rimfire bench rest matches. Now 2lbs feels good for hunting rifle. -

What kind of trade were you thinking of?

Can you extract a loaded cartridge after closing the bolt on it and check for rifling engraved on the bullet. That would explain a lot.

The hedge funds shorting GameStop were generally making the obvious call, GameStop's future was not bright. That said, and not being a fan of stock shorting, I have no problem seeing the hedge fund people getting burned at their game. I do have concern for the Investors that got in at these stratospheric levels, I see a bad outcome for those that paid top dollar for this stock.

All my low level Navy flying was over the N Pacific Ocean, never had a chance to fly close over the land. Only people who had a chance to see us were the Russian sub's we were tracking. -

Great thread and interesting read. Lance about covered it all. My 2 cents are, hunt where others are not. Maybe others do not hunt an area because too tough to hike, no road access and worst no big bucks. It is just nice to hunt up a buck working the terrain and using your own knowledge to work an area without dancing around others, some times shoot a small buck, sometimes pass on em and once in a while run into a nice one but 100% of the time a pleasurable hunt. How enjoyable is a nice buck if you are surrounded by other hunters, kinda diminishes the overall experience. This whole having a platoon of glassers working for the guide so you can shoot a buck just does not appeal but maybe that's what others pay for. if I am lucky I might get another 5 or maybe 10 years out of the old legs but its been a great 50 year ride.
