good call bret! -
the day pack really did seem like cheatin, those sticks were like you said Doug "last resort" nex time, i will bring the harris bipod then we will be really cheating! dont forget the cross wind there was! i was shooting my 270 wsm with the varmint reticle and the 300 yard cross hair was VERY close to dead on. the scope says to sight in dead on at 200, and we think the load i was shooting was 1 inch low at 100 last time we shot it so with a a estimate or 2.5 inches higher than that we turend it up and the 300 yard marker was about 3 inches low. it was a fun time and we will have to go do that some more!

dad got the december tag few years back, man he messed up bad a few times! got him within 150 of a i swear 90" FORK the thing was huge! guys we were hunting with glassed up 3 110+ together and dad wouldnt go with them cause "they werent our deer" but there were 3 bucks and only 2 tags. then he takes off with them, leaves me watching a 70-80" 3x3, turns around to come get me and right when he says lets go BOOM, BOOM 111 down! and that wasnt even the biggest!!! man that made me mad!

k so my questions are: when i sight my rifle in, i usually shoot in flagstaff arizona,(about 7,000 elevation) and hunt south of tucson arizona( approx. 4,000 maybe) my questions are will my rifle shoot the same zero in tucson that it will in flagstaff? will the velocity be close enough to the same so that it doesnt effect my varmint reticle scope? i usually shoot one or two shots from my rifles at say a little rock around 100 yards when i get to the hunting area. is there a problem with sighting in this high and then hunting down that low?? will my loads work the same way? thanks.

Hunting Partners?
firstcoueswas80 replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
wetmule, you couldnt have said it an better. i have hunted with the following people: my dad, best friend, brother (since he was like 4, he walks with us and is acutally really good and really quiet, loves to carry binos)uncles, cousins, three guys i have met on here by the names of Doug, Scott, and Albert,(awesome guys), cousins, uncles, my mom, grandpa and for the last 6-7 years a guy my dad has worked with for ever and hes who we usually hunt with, him and his son. but by far is my dad and my brother even though grandpa is right there with them. my dad has tought me alot and i have tought him a lot (like spending 600 on the docters waws a good thing). i really like hunting with anyone who knows what they are doing. i dont really like hunting by my self cause i am not experienced enough yet and i like sharing all of that with people, that is the best part. -
mine would be my first coues for sure. Azpackhorse, really sorry to hear that, no one should loose a hunting partner.

it depends for me, my dad is an old man (nearly 50) with arthritus(sp) in his hips so we cant walk all that far but he still does pretty well. for the most part we let our big glass do the walking for us but we have been known to put 3-4 miles between us and the truck. it also depends where we hunt, in one of our honey holes, the best glassing spot isnt more than 1/4 mile from camp and the area to hunt is not that big. in another one of our spots, we have a TON of ground to cover so we usually lace the boots up nice and tight when we hunt there.

alright, i have a few choices. for coues, i am 100%sure i am taking my new 270 wsm (unless it dont shoot worth a dang!!!) but for elk and/ or antelope if i get drawn what should i shoot? i was thinkin for elk the 30-06 with the 180 grain accubonds it shoots so well, but if i dont get a coues with the new wsm, i want to break it in for sure! then theres also my old 270 i got from my grandpa, and theres my .308 that i killed my first 2 elk with. but antelope if i get drawn is between the 270 wsm and the 270. pretty sure the wsm wins that one, what do you all think i should do??? thanks
