  1. about 6 years ago, my dad grandpa uncle and i had a december unit 1 bull tag. it had snowed quite a bit that year and my grandpa. who is not the most stable hiker was hiking down the back side of a steep hill. well, about every 5 steps or so you would hear him say his favorite phrase to say when he hits the ground it goes a little something like " sone of a B!TCH" i swear he must have said that about 30 times on that particular hill. same hunt, we manage to kick up 4 bulls, my dad is runnin to get in position to shoot, and does it quite well for a big man. when he gets to where he wants to be, he throws the old 270 up and get on the elk, i can see him followin the elk in his scope and right as he is pullin the trigger his footing gives out and he falls flat on his face. not thinking about it he raises back up and throws the scope to his eye only to get a face full of snow. to say the least we didnt get any elk that day! desertbull, you win!
  2. man those are nice! the trigger finger would for sure be ready to go!!! scott, i need EXACT GPS coordinates, as for mearns, hope theyre there whenever we can make it out!
  3. well, i got to lookin at some OLD posts and i saw doug posted this for new rifles last year. i will be carrying a ton of new gear. first of all is my custom thumbwhole stocked 270 wsm topped with a leupold 4.5-14x40 varmint retuicle scope (eventhough im trying to get rid of it for a boone and crockett) with 64.5 grains of 4831sc and 140 accubonds, shooting well under half inch groups. the second is my new zeiss 15x60's with the velbon efl 4a tripod i got from amanda. i am very excited about this season! so how bout ya'll, carrying anything new and exciting this year?

    october vs. november

i have always hunted 36b in november. but this year, for some reason dad wanted to put us in for the october hunt. i am wondering what the differences i am going to see are deer activity, how early they bed. i know its going to be hot as heck! and besides that i am not looking forward to only 4 days of hunting. i like to be out there for atleast a week. i know where we are going to hunt but what can we expect in october as compared to november. thanks.

    Scope Mounting

also make sure the crosshairs are straight, i think thats the hardest part! lol, make sure you dont OVER tighten em up! i did that on my 270 wsm and doug and i actually bent several star bits before we got it loose!

    How bad is Southern AZ?

see i dont understand the reasoning behind carrying a pistol in your back pack, if your gonna need it, theres not gonna be time to dig it out. it almost seems useless in the backpack, my xd40 stays right on my hip with all three 12 round magazines in the same holster incase i need to use it. i hope i never have to but if i do i dont want to have to dig around the back pack with adrenaline pumpin looking for my pistol, i would rather reach down and grab it and be ready to go!

    archery hunter murdered in 34A

while posting on another subject, some one told me carrying a hand gun and a rifle was silly. i belive the exact words were " why carry a hand gun when you have a high powered rifle on your shoulder" how many shots does a big rifle hold? between 3 and 5 right (my short mag holds 3) and how fast can you shoot those 3 rounds? not very. my xd-40 holds 11 .40 caliber rounds, and i can shoot those as fast as i can squueze the trigger and it sure is easier to weild in close corners than a heavy rifle! dad also carries his .357 mag when we are out there along with his 7mm RUM can never be too carefull or ready!

    300 WSM Ammo opinions

i do not have a 300wsm, but rather a 270 wsm and have gotten gret accuracy with accubonds with h4831. also loaded up some sst's with some 4350 and that produced the best group my rifle has shot yet, three shots at .664

    Unit 36B

never said i was a cock locked bad butt, said my pistol was incase it needed to be used!
  25. firstcoueswas80

    Unit 36B

i have hunted in 36b for about 8 years. only 2 or 3 times have i seen people(tonks) in the area that i hunt but the trash and garbage is EVERYWHERE!!!! some of the places that we are in do not show signs of activity IE trash, no alien sightings etc. i used to never carry anything but my rifle. but the past few years, i have been carrying my xd-40 on my hip, cocked, locked and ready to rock! i have never had a problem with them knock on wood, but if i do, my dad and i are big enough, and usually cary enough fire power with us and speak enough spanish to keep them away from messing with us, or atleast we hope so!
