yeah we had a blast. one of the hunters was Rick Bin, owner of 24hourcampfire.com i tell ya,he is a stand up guy! we got to compare a lot of different optics and even see some that arent even on the market yet! my hunter was his cousin Mike, we had a blast and yes i did get a tip.

ill take that as you really want to know, even though i dont think thats the case. showed my client a bunch of deer and a bunch of bucks, opening morning he passed on a 65" 3x3 at 250 yards right off the bat. glassed up a 75+ moving thorugh the bottom thickets but couldnt find him agian for a shot. last day, he missed a 500 yard shot at another 3x3. we all had a blast and saw a ton of deer. nobody killed, not even the client that was with the head guide/outfitter that knew the area well.

this has been asked before, and debated to heck but my first was at 340, and when he kicked out of his bed that he was going to die in, 400. at 400, i shot 4 times, missing high the first, the next two were an inch apart through his lungs, and the last was in his shoulder. he would not stay down. my next was about 150 yards and last years was 250. on my 270wsm, i have target turrets with the drops out to 500 and i am comfortable to that far with no wind.

that a boy Christian! and i know what ya mean about having to do all the work for your dad! last year, i spotted my dads buck, passed on the shot so he could shoot, tracked the deer, gutted it, packed it out, skinned it, and boned it! but i love it that way! good job! nice to see it worked out!

Ryan Ramos??? this is Casey Charter nice buck that thing is a stud! -
so this year, i think i might do a little hunting by myself. im wondering what you all who hunt by yourself do if you shoot at a buck. heres the scene: the buck is 400 yards off ( or what ever distance) your laying down prone and have the buc your sights. at the shot, you loose sight of the buck because of the recoil. how do you kow if you hit the buck? how do you know where it went? how do you find the spot? this is the only thing that really worries me about hunting by myself, please shed some light thanks!

What Grain of bullet for 30.06 for coues??
firstcoueswas80 replied to newazhunter's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
125's out of a 06 tend to have a thin jacket, making them expand (explode) quickly. i put 6 wholes in my first buck with a 125 ballistic tip from my 30-06 before he died, 3 of them should have killed him on the spot. 2 of the bullets were at 400 yards, limping broadside, about an inch low, but perfectly behind the shoulder, they were 3/4 an inch apart from each other. the final shot that really put him down was a bullet through the front shoulders. could really hear this bullet smacke meat and the destruction it cause on the shoulder was outstanding, but i like bullets to hold up a little better. i shoot 140 accubonds from my 270, 270 wsm and 7RUM, i would look at a 150 grain bonded bullet from federal as a factory load. interbonds, accubonds, TSX, or partition would be my top choices. -
had a couple guys last year that made me laugh. biggest road hunters i have ever seen. it was a unit 7e cow hunt, the old man driving was prolly in his 70's and the two guys in the truck ( with their guns) were in their 30-40's i dont blame the old man but those other guys should be out there hiking the hills! they woulc creep along the roads at about 2-5 miles per hour with their head on a swivel. saw em everyday, they at least would let us by.

ive got one identical to it, with the tripod i well sell for the same price.

good call on that Christian! ive heard of ground shrinkage, but man that thing gre in size like nobodies business! -
i totally agree on trying to not hunt alone. but some days my dad just flat out doesnt want to hunt hard. and, in all honesty he cant hike like i want to. i want to get out there and hike and kill a nice buck this year so this leaves me only with this option.

"The other that I've used, was to set my spotting scope up directed at the bedded herd of javies on my archery hunt. As I worked my way to them, I kept looking at the scope with my binos, until I could tell I was looking directly back through it. By then, I knew I was close anyway. You could use this with your example of having the binos set at the shot." i could see this working.. only problem is i dont use a spotting scope and i only have one pair of binoculars. i guess i could use my scope on my rifle. lots of good ideas. keep em comin

"Its a good problem to have if it happens. hoping thats what happens to me!

a possible solution i had though of was this: have the binos affixed to his position before shooting. after the shot, if he is gone, look through the binos and see if it is possible to see blood, broken rocks or hopefully, a dead deer. if the dead deer is not there, i was thining using marking tape and put several pieces around the exact place i was shooting from, range the area again and when i get to the general direction of where the buck was, range back to where the tape is and go from there turning over every rock for blood or a deer. how does that sound? thanks for the long reply!
