Opening morning success
firstcoueswas80 replied to hunter1026's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Very nice! Lets hear some info! -
Much of it depends on not only your location, but your quarry you might face off with in the field. In the east, from my understanding a loooonnnnggggg shot, might be 100-200 yards. Here in the west, in my opinion, 250-300 is a 'close' shot, with many huntrs in the field being able to reach past 500 yards. Even having said that, magnums are not 'needed',but with their higher velocity, more ft/lbs etc they tend to add a little more range, versatility and better results on the further shots.

I actually found a 65 Quart Yeti for sale on Craigslist for 250 bucks in East Tucson but it sold. I called Canyon coolers and their blemish percent of was only 10 so I decided not to go that route.

Is a .243 Winchester an Ethical Elk Gun???
firstcoueswas80 replied to CEI's topic in CEI Outdoors Blog
Of course a .243 'can' do it when everything, or almost everything goes right. The problem with using minimal calibers/cartridges/bullets is the margin for error is slim and none, and shot distance, angles and placement have to be spot on. (which they did a very good job of making sure all of those were just right in the video, but some people are not as picky on all those.) Like Coues Sniper said, everyone would take a well placed shot with .xxx cartridge over a poorly placed shot with .xxx cartridge. Its like the Capital 1 commercials with Jimmy Fallon and the baby... 99.999% of people want more money... Duuuhhhhhh. -
Rifle scope question!
firstcoueswas80 replied to joelpresmyk8's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
The power, as well as objective lense size are fine, I wouldn't worry about changing those specs, but I would look at (if its a cheap scope) upgrading quality. -

nosler partition long range bullet?
firstcoueswas80 replied to couesmagnet's topic in Long Range Shooting
As Well as Reliable Bullet Performance At Those Low Speeds. -
Traded the first rifle I ever had, which was a birthday present from my parents, for my little brothers first rifle. Didn't care for the gun (all original Savage 99e .308), but the fact it was given to me by them is why I regret getting rid of it.

nosler partition long range bullet?
firstcoueswas80 replied to couesmagnet's topic in Long Range Shooting
Gutpile, unless I missed something, he is talking about the partition not the Accubond. OP, IMO, the Partition is not a long rang bullet. I, personally would switch to something more suited for the task to shoot that far. Accubond, Ballistic tip, or the new Long Range Accubond is what I would look into. I didn't see a mention of cartridge, but being a 180 grain Partition, I would assume something .308 cal.
