Where do you store your tag before hunting season?
firstcoueswas80 replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in The Campfire
As long as I can remember we've kept it 'with the bullets'. Now I keep it in the safe with the optics. -
The slick tricks won for me, although the phat heads are looking good to..... accuracy and penetration into the new target are the important factors.

257 weatherby load question
firstcoueswas80 replied to 257 STW's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Retumbo, r33, imr 7828 are good ones too. -
Christina, the best way i have found ours one you cut the animal open, you cut the membrane that separates the guts and the chest cavity. Once you cut that, reach as far up as you can on the esophagus, cut it and pull out! Pretty much everything should follow, but you might need to do a little clean up. Grab the heart and liver, and get to packing out!

Also, Barnes reccomends starting at .050" off, I would defintely start there.... They have liked a jump in ever rifle I have loaded them in. -

Never in .243, but the next caliber up (.257). Ive killed a lot of stuff with the 100 grainers and they work great! -

Great choice,if I shot a big 30,that's what I'd shoot to. -
My wife drew a good Coues tag, looking to get her some good clothes for the hunt. Mainly needing long sleeve shirts, maybe a sweatshirt and pants. In pant she wears about a size 12, but needs 34-35" inseam. Large in all other clothes.

If that doesnt happen ^^^ Ill like one pound of Retumbo if you'll meet me in Casa Grande.

Hearing Protection
firstcoueswas80 replied to MULEPACKHUNTER's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I think your Dr. was incorrect... When ever I shoot my left ear gets the brunt of it as it is closer to the muzzle... Thats the one that has the highest of selective hearing when the wife is talking.... uhh I mean has the most hearing loss. -
Unfortunately my first memory is a poor one. Riding my quad with my friend Christina, she spots a bunch of javelina. Long story short, perfect stalk, 22 yard shot. I know i SMOKED that pig, but her and I never found it. My first lost animal, and first one ever shot with a bow.

Hearing Protection
firstcoueswas80 replied to MULEPACKHUNTER's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
If never understood how come people shoot animals with out hearing protection. I am only 29 and I FAILED the hearing test to get into my job. (I was 22 at the time!) Luckily, I passed it the second time. I have not shot an animal other than a coyote or two with out hearing protection in at least my left ear since 2009. I use a set of plugs on a string, or better yet, the hard ones that have plugs on each end. Those work GREAT. As soon as a deer that one wants to tag, put them around your neck, then put one or both in right before the shot. No problem at all. -
Spring pistol piggies are a blast!
