If I'm understanding his jibberish correctly, he didn't poach "that" deer, but did poach another deer... But, in his words, the big deer was 'legal' although he already killed a deer? Who knows. A criminal and a liar will say or do whatever is necessary to make themselves feel innocent.

Why not just use a 223? Billions of different rifles to choose from, and just as many different ammo offerings. Dirt cheap ammo, too.

Did you look in the barrel with a bore scope, or naked eye? If naked eye, I'm not sure it is even possible to tell what shape a barrel is in, without using a scope.
