I actually think he is being quite open-minded as far as being willing to support issues other than auctioning tags even though he thinks it's necessary.

I'm glad to hear hunting stores may be into donating. As said before, the industry ad well as hunters should be the ones to financially support the political fight. Cabellas, Leopold, Remington, federal etc, could/should all be helping as it is in their best interest for hunting to remain free

Even if more tags for auction are absolutely necessary to raise money for education of the public couldn't g&f just raise the number of tags that are given to the organizations that already receive them? Or does this new group feel like they need their own auction tags to gain legitimacy for fundraising on the political side of the org?

So now they are admitting the tag money wont be used for anything political and they will raise money from other sources for political endeavors, they would have stopped a lot of skepticism from rising if this was said in the beginning but now it makes it look even more shady. So the game and fish doesn't need conserve and protect to raise money for education, and CPA will raise money for politics by other means, then why do they need the tags at all. I feel they just want to start another group that gets to sell tags and are trying to make it look like we need them. I'm 100% for them using donations to fight for hunters. But can't see why they should get any tags to auction. And now they have made themselves look dishonest in my opinion.

If the money from new auction tags goes to the same place as the money from existing auction tags and that money already can't be used the way the new guys want it to be used then why is this needed at all

Yes I heard how long you have known Pete and the respect you have for him, but is it typical to answer your own questions before letting him give his answer? Not saying he is being dishonest, but when you frame questions like that it is very easy for someone to give the answer you want to hear. I feel Pete is authentic and wants to help but I still don't see how auctioning off state resources for political action is ethical. And when you asked if their goal was achieved would they consider giving some of the allowed tags back, that will never happen. When does anyone ever give up power or reaources.

What no-one has been able to explain is why is this organization special enough to get state resources allocated to them for funding, is this ethical, and what kind of precedent will it set? Will organizations be able to get a cut of public land sales to fund political action? I don't even understand how this can be legal. If AZGF can't be politically active because they are funded through the sale of state resources then how can these same resources be used to fund any private organization? If this is allowed then I worry about what else will be sold to benefit groups that we don't agree with.

Are you aware of what HSUS was trying to do? Are you aware of what HSUS has done in the past, i.e. with bear hunting in CO, leg-hold traps here is AZ, etc. It takes MONEY to fight those political battles, and G&F funds cannot be legally used for such. The lack of such money is why HSUS was successful with the trap initiative. I'll also guess that if HSUS succeeds with the cat vote, it will then go after ALL bear hunting in AZ. The cat initiative is already dead. I will wait to hear the whole proposal but asking why we need this now is a valid question. I tend to believe these kind of fights should be funded by donation from concerned citizens. Even though I would support an organization fighting HSUS I don't feel this is an ethical way to do it. Consider if HSUS was auctioning off state resources to fund their initiatives. Hunting tags are state resources. Just because you agree with this group this time doesn't mean you always will or that it's the right thing to do.
