Headed to Arizona next week to hunt Unit 1. Really looking forward to it. Looks like it's been warm and dry down that way with no change in sight.

Thanks for the responses and messages! I'll update this post after the hunt.

Up here right now, seeing some good bulls! Bumped a bachelor heard of 7 bulls, biggest was about 340, bumped a heard of cows with a 340 bull with them as well. One small buck, spike. Nice! Tie one up for me haha!

We are staying at Tal Wi-Wi lodge. I'd rather camp but I'm taking online classes and that's finals week so after huntings over for the day I'll be hitting the books....!

Right now I'm planning on hunting near Esquidilla. I'll be scouting 2 days prior to the open so that could change.

I'll be on the same hunt. Never been there so I don't have anything to offer other than good luck and i he gets a good one!

Hey guys new member here. I'm from Nebraska and addicted to elk hunting! I was steered over here from another forum who told me this is the place to go for talking about Arizona hunting so here I am. I drew a unit 1 late rifle tag with 4 points. I'm pretty dang excited to get down there. I have a few questions for those who would be so kind to visit with me. 1. What kind of weather is typical there at the first of December? I'm assuming we should prepare for snow. 2. I'm there for the entire week and will be there a few days early to scout. I'm not concerned with eating the tag if the right bull doesn't show up but don't want to pass something I shouldn't on a late season hunt. What should I be looking for on this late season hunt? I'm assuming antlers will be busted up a bit. I've never hunted elk past October so this will be a new experience. I know unit 1s reputation for big bulls but I'm guessing the late season is a different animal. 3. Is an ATV necessary to get around? I'd sure like to not have to drag a trailer out there if I could help it. I've got a friend of a friend who lives in Alpine who has given me some pointers on areas to check out so I think I have a good start to go with my scouting days prior to the hunt. I'm planning to cover ground and glass a lot if the country lends itself to glassing. I'm pumped to head to your state and enjoy a week and half in some new country!
