Need a AZ Topo? Free Download suitable for a GPS
Elkaddict replied to PRDATR's topic in GPS and Maps
Mapsource I believe is a program you have on your computer to be able to put maps in your GPS, you jprobably have Garmin Topo on your GPS. And yes you will overwrite that map with the one from the gpsfiledepot map. -

Found this bull this AM, appears to have been dead for a few weeks. Horns and ivorys are missing. This is just off the forest road #317 ,3 miles west of Hwy 87. It appears a quad drove off the 317 road to the elk to get the horns. Anybody with any info (perhaps a neighbor showing off a fresh set of velvet antlers?)please contact the G&F hotline at 1-800-352-8700. Whoever did this has surely shown these horns to somebody in the last few weeks. Poachers suck!!

It was 3 miles from the highway. Didn't see any damage to the body that would indicate hit by a vehicle. was there a bullet hole?? Good question, couldn't see one on the up side. As you can see by the pictures he wasn't in great shape with the crows, etc. that had been scavaging. The game and fish were suppose to check it with a metal detector to see if there was anything to recover. Other than that all I can say is it looks like a poached elk to me. I did find a 6" spot of what appeared to be dried blood in the road. The bull was about 50 yards off the road and I couldn't find any other blood between the road and him.

That's the way I feel. I see you're from Happy Jack, so am I. This is getting personal, in our back yard!! People get upset over a stolen trail camera (rightfully so!) everyone should be really pi$$ed at this kind of theft!!

Love the video!! That's the hunt I was lucky enough to get this year. Gonna be fun!!

That would be me, I go out 3 to 4+ times a week and glass for whatever. Saturday I did see mostly antelope and 1 mule deer buck. No elk.

Thanks for the update, I haven't heard anything since the news channels quit carrying the story. I have a friend that had been on that boat a few times and he has a few hair raising tales about his "LAST" trip a couple of years ago.

That's a great start to your 2011 videos!! Looks like a good bull to me!

Set the camera a couple of days ago and wanted to check to see if it was pointed right. Quite a difference in horn growth!

Ha!! Ha!! Thanks, that's my grandson, Zach, the "Elk Bugler". -
View from my vantage point . Video camera zoomed to 12 power. Filmed at 12 power through my 15's. Very nice bottoms, are the tops going to develop?

I have been using the gpsfiledepot arizona topo maps for about a year and I think they are great! They are pretty big file size so don't know how much you can load on your Etrex. they are free and much better than the $100 garmin topos. Download it and give it a try, all you have is a little time invested. Also the map will be on your computer(be sure and download Basecamp from garmin) and you can make waypoints, routes, etc.

Hey Whitey, sorry I can't help you out this time. If you go to GPS file depot you can probably get everything you need. I've been using their maps for a while now and really like them. Much more detail and even forest service road numbers in a lot of cases. Good luck. PS, you buy too may GPS's. Terry Forgot to say it's all FREE! Thanks Terry. I don' buy too many, I just have had to send them back 4 times to get fixed........ I think I finally got a good one. I will check into file depot It's the rhino's I never did trust them, next time get the gps 60cs or 60csx and you won't have any problems with it. Anyway let me know how you do at the gps file depot, it does take a bit to figure out how to do it but you shouldn't have any problems with it. PM me if you do and maybe I can help you out. Will be up north most of the summer but can give you a call or something.
