Bad idea to switch Ammo brands night before hunt?
Elkaddict replied to jcarter's topic in The Campfire
This year prior to my elk hunt I went out to check my 270WSM. I have a Leupold scope w/ B&C reticules. My crosshair is set at zero @ 200 yards. I sighted in with 140 gr. Berger bullets in a handload. When I finished sighting in I decided to shoot a couple of 140 gr. Accubonds I had for a backup. I was 7" low at 200 yds. with the Accubonds. If you change brands, best shoot them to see where they hit and go from there. My .02 -
Well db I couldn't agree more. Coincidence or not you posted this on the day the Coconino came out with their management plan. I don't think it's right for atv's to travel where there are no roads simply to cut the distance the driver has to walk but I think they went too far saying you can't go off road to retrieve an elk in areas and saying you can in other areas. With 6A being across the road from unit 5 there is absolutely no difference in the terrain, so why restrict the unit 5 hunters? I do believe the atv owners you are talking about are the ones that brought this ruleing about. I hate seeing quad tracks along the edge of a canyon when I am horn hunting, I hope there is some enforcement at that time. At this point I don't know what I will do the next time I shoot an elk in 5A or B, Probably take my quad and get it.

Coconino National Forest Travel Management Plan
Elkaddict replied to Red Rabbit's topic in The Campfire
Can't offroad to retrieve an elk in 5A and 5B I am all for keeping horn hunters from cutting up the land looking for drops, but at my age packing an elk very far is not in my plans! Period! -
Love the before photos! Great buck, congrats!!

Great idea for hunting down south, the electronic one might have even helped the elk hunters that had some of their meat stolen.

Started hailing at our cabin today at about 1PM, turned to snow soon after that, and is still going strong at 4:15PM. I am 13 miles north of Clints Well. It's 33 degrees and am very glad I have a nice fire going!!

Ended up snowing till just after dark, got about 2". Yes Lark it is "cool" 28 degrees right now, should be a beautiful day! Just right for the deer hunt, and do bring extra clothes! Here's a couple more pictures from just before dark.(I will be tired of this before long, but the first one is "special")

Worked fine! Nice buck, don't know about measuring for the "book" but if you want it noticed, I will take it off your hands and notice it

Glad you got it figured out! Nice buck! Good pictures of the illegals too. You saw a lot of stuff! Sounds like a great hunt. Congrats! Looks like he hadn't rubbed at all. -
Congrats on your hunt, looks like you're still having trouble posting pictures. Good luck with that, I know it can be frustrating. Search for how to post pictures, that might help.
