Elkaddict replied to Shedhunteraz's topic in Shed Hunting
Good lookin horns, congrats to you guys! -
Congrats! With a bow no less! Way to get it done, I am envious !

Heard gobbles by doing owl calls early Sat and Sun morning, but nothing after they came off the roost. Did call in a hen but that was it. Pretty typical turkey hunting for me!

In 5a and saw 4 camps, 2 on roads where there is no camping and 2 too far from the camping roads. So I would say no, they aren't enforcing . I am sure when summer hits the campers are going to hear about it. As far as closed roads, I haven't seen a closed road yer without tire tracks on it.
-
All the roads in 5a seem to be open, including the 300 rd. so I would assume 6a roads are also. I have been hearing birds before iit gets light by doing owl calls. Haven't been persuing them after they hit the ground. It's been so windy the last few days I didn't go out. Did hear one bird this AM, hopefully they will fire up for the JR hunt.

BIG BUCKS FROM CHIHUAHUA, MEXICO.
Elkaddict replied to Leo Duran's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Mexico
Super looking bucks, Leo! Love the drop tines! Welcome to the site! -
That's exactly what I am seeing. Seems that the people that want to hunt, be it cow or bull, are doing just that. The ones that prefer just trophy premium hunts are collecting bonus points. To each his own. I have never put in for a cow hunt but I think I will be adding cow hunts to my app next year. Shot enough bulls, nothing big, but just want a tag.

I have it for the first time, so not sure at this point where I will be.

Way to much thinking for someone my age! Here's my breakdown. 1971 rifle bull tag 1975 first archery elk tag -any elk From 1976 till 1990 probably had around 10 archery bull tags 1992 archery bull 1994 archery bull 2004 archery bull 2011 rifle bull rut hunt ( first time I put in for a rifle hunt since 1971) 2013 archery bull So looks like 17 bull tags in 42 years. Not bad. My wife's tally. 2000 rifle bull 6a 2002 rifle bull 6a 2004 rifle bull 5a 2006 rifle bull 5a 2008 rifle rut hunt 22n 2011 rifle any L/O Sunset Pretty lucky draws, I would say!

Haven't been to Angostura in 30 years! Love the lake, the road used to be pretty bad at least to the river end. How is it now?
-
Pretty buck!

Like bc777 said "If you want to hunt a bull that bad put in for a hunt with better odds." I have friends that are in this rut, they have accumulated so many points they continue to put in for the 1 to 2% draw hunts. Then I have friends that get drawn almost every year by putting in for the Limited Opportunity hunts. Me, I would like to have a tag every few years so I stay away from the early rifle 9 and 10 zoo.

Kim Jong Un & the North Korean Navy set off to invade the U.S. Looks like its starting, -
What do you mean by self guided? They supply the boat, bait, tackle, etc. They show you how to use the electronics, GPS and depth finder. They will show you how to rig your baits for salmon, halibut , rock fish etc. and it's up to you to go catch them. It does help to have some experience with boat handling but its not hard to learn. Basically you're by yourself with family and or friends and you determine what and how you fish everyday. Last year my wife and I fished 5 days and brought home 250 lbs of filleted salmon, rock bass, and halibut. There are radios on the boat so you are in contact with the lodge at all times, and they will make sure you catch fish. Self guided the limit is 2 halibut per day where guided is 1 , being self guided they have to be careful with the Alaska game and fish laws concerning helping the anglers.Like I said this is my second year and can't wait to get back up there. They are in Elfin Cove, beautiful area with probably the best halibut fishing in any of the Alaskan waters. Cool, didn't know they did that?!? I can run a boat just fine, how far out do you go? Is it more reasonable priced?Go to their website, under new guests and look at the NOAA nautical charts. I fished for salmon and ling cod out around Yakobi rock and halibut a couple of miles east of Elfin cove. You only travel maybe 10 miles from the resort, and that's just if you want to. Fishing can be good at any one of hundreds of spots. Just saw on Facebook someone canceled a Aug. 25 trip, which is the best time for silvers. And Kelly said the largest halibut of the season came that week last year. I think his prices are posted on the site, I think it's around $2900 for 5 days of fishing and 6 nights at the resort, all licenses, food, transportation from Junuea, included. Check the charter prices , I believe they are quite a bit higher . Contact Kelly at the number on the website, I've been talking to him over the last couple of months. He is very passionate about the fishing and can fill you in on any questions . My name is Terry Hartsburg, tell him I said hi. Might not be anyone else interested in this post so if you want any more info PM me, also let me know if you get together with Kelly and I will keep you informed about our trip and any other fishing info I find out about.

Got a self guided trip in July. This will be my second time. Really wasn't excited prior to the first one, now it's all I can think about! I think I have watched every halibut video on YouTube ! I do have an elk tag to consume some of my thoughts but the Alaska trip is first!
