Shooting hogs with a pistol is cheating . I killed this one with my bear hands after a short race and a wrassling match . Just kidding, my T/C Encore in .223 did the job at 60 yards or so. Thanks for the tooth pictures. According to that this hog either had very good dental hygiene or was real young like 2-3 years or so. I always wondered how to age peccaries. We used to look at their knee pads and assumed if they were real wore down that they were old. That is what's cool about this site, learn something new almost everytime I drop by. Bret M.

37A has a ton of hogs in the flats and they seem to hang near agriculture. From Arizona City all the way down to the 36A/C border is loaded. Bret M.

Probably a little late but the hogs would come out of those oak covered hills to the South of the windmill when I saw them. I hope you found some. Bret M.

That is sad. I saw one in that unit slobbering, walking in circles and acting like it might be blind during September. It was a spike. I never thought it had CWD though, I just thought he had a rough night trying to rut or something. I hope G&F looks into this. Bret M.

Does anyone actually ever kill a bear on a Spring hunt? I looked at the draw odd/harvest data book and Spring sucess is like less than 5% for almost every unit. I put in anyways but never get drawn. Probably a good thing, I have a hard enough time killing bear when they are out feeding like crazy and acting like fools in the fall. Bret M.

I think he means this one. 2 point typical frame, some (a ton actually) junk and awesome eyeguards. Now spill the beans, where did it come from? Bret M.

I have seen a few of them around that windmill close to where we camped at over there. I think it may be just one herd though and the associated kicked out old boars that go with the herd. I would look lower in elevation, like around the Gila in the cactus. I know there are a ton along the Gila on the AZ side of the river. Good luck. Bret M.

Man thats tough! I was hoping you would get one over there. Usually on that hill the Mearns quail get me while sneaking around. We didn't see that many coyotes over there this year but last year there were lots of them and they do need to be thinned out. Good luck if you go back out again. Bret M.

Lark has a hard time with reading and word comprehension. I wouldn't hold it against anyone raised in Apache County though. Not really their fault . Bret M.

I think that big wide one got canned by a rifle hunter after some serious growing and velvet shredding. Bret M.

That is an awesome buck! My buddy has some sheds like that from 36C. Bret M.

Good job!!! I was wondering if it was a solid hit. That first shot sounded good anyways. But in that weather I was figuring following a blood trail could get ugly. We got soaked all day and night. I hunted till the end and saw 3 more bucks both up there and down where I shot that lion but nothing bigger than the one I got in NM last month, and I never saw a whitetail buck in the rut. In fact, the next day, not far from where you guys nailed that nice one we had 12 coues does on the same slope and stayed on them all day. A buck just never showed up. There is a really nice heavy and wide 3x3 carp buck rutted out of his head begging for an arrow up in there though. Again, nice deer Craig and excellent pictures Scott. Maybe next year I might get lucky. Bret M.

I am partial to 12A West myself for coues but alot of guys will say 36B. I would agree with them if they are talking about 10-15 years ago before the illegal circus down there got as bad as it is now. Bret M

Thats a carp. Coues do not get that big. Bret M.

It would have been nice to see them separate the species hunt dates and maybe move one hunt to later, think December. Bret M

4 hard days later and the coues in unit 28 are still not rutting, I may actually have to drive all the way over to unit 27 to find a good one and some rut action. I saw some carp getting after it though, maybe the coues will follow. I passed on some weener bucks hoping the good ones will come out after Christmas Bret M.

Good, I dont need another heavy old rutted up nasty stinking deer anyways. Anyone want my tag ? I am going to get back to what I should be doing anyways, murdering the quackers, they are rutted and I have a bunch of hen decoys. Bret M.

Hunts/Scouting in 36C
bullwidgeon replied to Lookin4amonster's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I spent 4 or 5 days down there this year helping folks and it sucked, all weeners lots of does and no shooters. Some of the best coues deer hunters I know who can glass better than me and know alot more about deer than I do, spent more time down there than I did and their consensus was the same, it sucked. These guys even went to the trouble of scouting this summer and hanging trail cams. The result was the same though, ULTRA WEAK this year. I have been down there in the past and always seen a nice deer or two but not this go around. Maybe the rut will change things around for you and bring the good ones down off the cliffs or up out of the flats, good luck. Bret M. -
