  1. hey 300wsm, i agree but to be honest its plain to see that we are dealing w/ a child whos gettin all off on gettin us spooled up and now he has to go with an athiest theme and try to pull more people into his little circle!! it sickens me that BUSTER now chooses this time to enlighten us with his wisdom! this web site has done so much for my knowledge, as well as my sons, of coues with a few stories here and there about the other wildlife species that i cant say thank you enough to ALL those who contributed positively for their time. until this came along even my son whos 9 could safley surf this site. do us a favor BUSTER and go to monster mulies.com and call every one out. maybe i am wrong for printin this, as i am sure to recieve a response from BUSTER as soon as it posts but lets try to clean it up a bit -mike in tucson-
  2. i agree w/ lark i think publically the az g&f will say they dont like it, but THEY are the benefactors of this garbage w/ the increase in monies they are sure to recieve from the influx of non residents.. where the stench of lawyers and the uso exists the smell of money is not far behind or in this case ahead! like everything else these dollars will be diverted to cover some of the inadaqucies of gov naps other stupid decisions and we'll never here about it!!!! there is a bright side to all this, archery turkey is over the counter and ends shortley before the archery bull elk starts, just camp a few days longer and maybe youll be close to these uso pukes and in the intrest of educating our kids, of course, you can stomp around and show the kids how much fun elk hunting could have been and call in some elk too, and share the land if ya know what I mean. just a thought.

    Aluminums or Carbons

hey guys and gals just a note about the carbons as most of you probably already know, but for those of you that dont, if your carbon breaks while perforating the animal make sure you remove the meat in the affected area with about a 2-4 inch radious of the broken area, has somthing to do w/ the carbon fiber/graphite deposits. then wash the area thourghly. probably not a problem w/ smaller bodied animals as most shots are pass throughs, have seen it in the larger animals such as elk and larger. good luck all.. -mike-

    Hunting the Fringe

yea i just read about that in the az "red star" , tucson daily newspaper, it happened up on the edge of sabino canyon of the mt. lemmon area. the paper had it splattered all over the front page tryin to piggy back the controversy that happened earlier w/ the lions in that area. my weapon of choice during the scouting season is my ar-15 with a bull barrel and nice 3x9, just like the beverly hillbillies, it does a good job of lighten matches out to 400 yds. the problem i have is tryin to find a 5 round clip to stay in the good graces of the game and fish any advice ?

    Hunting the Fringe

unit 33 happy valley coues run the fringes and washes down to the creek. early season archery the (coues) are in abundance, until that oct. rifle opens up then you better get the hikin gear out and concentrate around the park (saghuaro natnl) area. find a trail and be patient they will still move lower to h2o. got on 2 big mulies w/o a shot and passed on 4 or 5 small 2 to 3 pt coues , again this was early archery. saw plenty of deer each day and while sittin in the creek bottom watchin a trail one mornin saw a mulie doe and fawn goin to h2o they passed from view and about 20 minutes after i saw them i heard a chase, never saw anything, the doe went one way and the fawn was bawlin loud and scared , i could distinguish from the leaves the sound of hooves slicin the clutter and muffled paw prints as this took place. it ended after abut 15 seconds with a crash, frantic bleating, and a quiet growl. kind a put a damper on the rest of the a.m. hunt. about an hour after this with no other noise i got up and went to where the sound was and picked up the trail. very little blood and sign of struggle for the noise i heard. i then lost the trail and started lookin in the tree tops but found nothing. have any of ya'll experienced this or any thing like it? its just one of those things that happened while I was huntin alone and not many people would believe me if I told them. kinda spookes me about huntin alone in lion country. from where i was and where the chase started was about 250 yds or so.

    Spot lighting

I liked what TAM said, a while back I was workin for the Az boys ranch (behavior modification) program for young offenders, mostly from inner cities in california. any way, one of our locations was outside of payson and in the evenings the kids who were tasked with extra chores along wiyh staff would take care of the tasks instead of sittin around watchin tv and unwinding from the day time projects such as maintaining trails for the forest service to stretchin barbed wire and makin elk bars and repairing fence etc. what a job!! get paid to scout and work!! any way late in the eve. after the tasks were done, I would tell these young men to load up some flashlights and in the dark we would hike to one of the water holes near camp (by moon light) and wait for the noise to start and then when those kids though they were gonna get "ate" by the bear that was surely comin' i would tell them all to turn on their lights and the look on those kids faces was priceless!! they had no idea how big the elk were,,man would i laugh. but that was somthin I thought i would share with you guys and gals, and maybe remind us about how much fun you can have with kids and not have the playstation turned on at nighttime. take care all and good luck w/ your draw(s) -mike-

    Sheds

I went out last monday to 36c to drop salt and saw 7 coues ,2 bucks 1 with a 3pt on half and nothing on the other side and the other buck was shed. went to the spot where the half cast was, hiked back on his trail for 1/4 mile or so and found nothing. went forward to track a while longer and got thirsty, had to hoof it back to the quad for h2o. so in that area they are startin to drop. good luck!!

tj i know co has some big mulies but keep this in mind , 35a and b had no rifle hunts (mule deer) this year so if the coues dont work for ya you could have some fun with these smaller cousins of the rocky mtn variety and not go home empty handed... good luck i have been out huntin hard in my first year w/ a bow and it is extremelly humbling ck out biology discussion if you havent already, and see the info on coues vocals (noisy deer) very helpful

    hunting 36c

hi and low are both good, my fav is any area from santa margarita ranch rd and south to mexico the further south you go the mntns realy peter out and if you are on foot (quads help) access is good to a point that you will not wear your boots out gettin to the desired areas my advice is get as close to mexico and the reservation as possible far s/w corner of the area and find the high ground and be patient and make no move until you have glassed um up. have seen lots of coues while huntin big antlered mulies. try to arrive in yer area mid morning and get a feel for your plan in the a.m. the area got a lot of rain this past monsoon so it should be productive.. hope this helps please follow up w/ any news after your hunt. 3 years ago i ran into some guides from show-low and they exclusively hunt this area for themselves and their clients. that year at their camp in 3 days they had 4 toads. we were camped about 1/4 mile from them, and they were the ones who gave me this info... happy holidays
