Jim- Having read many of your hunting stories, seen all the photos, and watched some of the videos, I have a suggestion that can make you really rich. Have you ever seen those reality shows on cable that have a camera man follow people around 24/7, and then the 1 hour show is the highlights of each week. I know people would pay big money for that. Or even just start small with a DVD series. You have to have some catchy name though like "Survivor Man, Redneck Style", or maybe "Wackiest Wildlife Encounters with Jimbo". Think about it. I'm sure some others here could come up with better names. Thanks for the info. everyone. Having been around these little stinkers enough times, I can't imagine any predator taking an interest in one. However, the last one I shot, we took great care to use three sets of knives, and three sets of gloves, to keep the stank off of the meat, and it was excellent. My friend made tamales out of them. Now how many people on this planet have ever had a javelina tamale!!! Yum!

When I say flat area, the pigs are out in the flats, but there are some hills and a small mountain range within 3/4 of a mile. There is also quite a bit of cattle in the area, which means water. When I tracked the herd, I noticed litle tracks, maybe 2 or 3 babies. I would guess that would be an easy kill. Either way, I have a couple of other good spots in case it doesn't pan out.

Thanks Amanda! Hopefully this turns out to be a worthwhile addition to the forum. I know I have a lot to learn, and look forward sharing what little knowledge I have. My current project is a Savage 110 300 win mag. Needs a new trigger (I plan on purchasing a Basix when I can save up the $$$). I loaded up some 165 grain nosler ballistic tips, using 73 grains of IMR 4350, and CCI 250 LRM primers. I went out and shot 20 rounds this afternoon, and man do they shoot FLAT. A small price to pay in recoil, but a great shooter. Once I swap out the trigger, I hope to be under 1 MOA. I set my son up with the same rifle, except in .270, for his youth hunt and am really happy with the accuracy for the low cost. Hopefully he can cash in on a pig in two weeks on his youth hunt.

A friend of mine who lives in Texas booked an alaskan bear hunt. Before he left, he happended to be driving with his family and saw a group of PETA supporters protesting the killing of bears. He could not help himself. He is the one doing the hugging in the first photo. Enjoy! http://culturaloffering.com/2007/12/15/ani...vers-unite.aspx

$12 million settlement against developer
John O replied to .270's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
I spend a fair amount of time out in this direction, and I know some of the long time residents of the area. Can anyone give me a better idea of where the actual damage occurred? Is this out west of the old Sasco smelter, or are we talking between there and the river? -
Where is he hiding the Liger mount?

Great job Scott! I'm sure it was nice to have some help to pack out that beast.

Sounds like a great hunt Joe. I can relate to a lot of your experiences. Me and my 10 year old saw a lot of does, and had an opportunity at bucks, but couldn't close the deal. I didn't feel like the hunt was any less of a success by not filling his tag, which says we were doing it right. It sounds like you were doing it right as well, and I look forward to hearing more of your experiences in the future.

Congrats! That is a lot of hard work. I have only hunted these coues for 2 years now, and in my book, any buck is a trophy. I can't get over those that post and almost appologize for their buck if it isn't a 4 point 100 incher. Your deer from last year is a tank, and for me would be a buck of a lifetime. Enjoy the tender cuts! (Just as a side note- I thought I was the long shooter in the camp, until my buddy bagged a 3X3 at 777 yards the next morning. And no, he has not had any formal sniper training)

I was able to take this little forky at 558 yards on the second day of the Nov. hunt (date is wrong on the photo). Last year was my first deer hunt, and I feel fortunate to be two for two. If the trend holds, next year will be a spike.

A friend of mine knows a guy in Sierra Vista that does it on the side, and at a great price. If you want his info. PM me and I will send it to you.

My 10 year old son picked up a left over Oct. coues tag. We saw two nice bucks opening morning, but they gave us the slip while we were setting up for a shot. We had a great time, saw a lot of deer, and came home feeling successful even though the tag wasn't filled.

I have some bad news for you. Your hunt is in Dec., not Oct. You have plenty of time to pack. I can send you the number of a good therapist, if you want.

If I could show you the sheds you'd see that he's a Coue's, also I've watched him running around and he's definitely got a nice white flag, he likes to show it to me as he runs away over the next set of ridges... There are no muleys that I've seen in this area, however I've heard that they used to live there. Something interesting I heard the other day - over in Saguaro National Park East they did a census of the deer around the desert loop drive - apparently there used to only be Muley's over there, this summer when they went out there were only Coues. Maybe somebody has heard of this happening before? That is interesting. I have noticed that the unit reports from G&F talk about how the whitetails can be found in the flats as well as in the hills. I have spent several days down in 36a this year, and have seen as many whitetails in the flats as in the mountains and hills. Come to think of it, the only place I have seen mulies is in Buenos Aires preserve, although I know they are all over. I prefer the whitetail though. Who wants to be stuck with a dang carp anyway???
-
Is it just me, or does that buck have a little mulie in him. Could that explain the large G2's???
-
Pretty cool name there, "couesyourdaddy". How did you come up with that one????

Thanks Lance. That's great information.

I have a late 6B cow hunt tag, and I haven't been in the area yet, and may be on my own up there during the hunt. I wonder if anyone has a feel for what kind of cell phone coverage is available. I plan on hunting the south part of the rim, just above Sedona. I have both verizon and Alltel phones. Thanks, and if anyone has questions with regard to unit 36b or 36a, feel free to PM me and I would be glad to help.

Spent most of Friday scouting for mine and my son's coues hunts. Hopefully my time will pay off. Even though it was really windy late in the day, one of the photos turned out.

Oh, I forgot to say that I'm riding a Honda FourTrax Rincon 675

Went out again to scout for my son's Oct. whitetail hunt. Only found a few deer, and some other interesting creatures. Took the first photo through my binos with a digital camera at 3/4 mile. Look close, and you will see it. Me on my sweet ride
