Inverter Broadhead test #2 Cinder Block

I shot a jack rabbit at 40 yards with one of these last friday, and it zipped through like there was nothing there. Perfect entrance and exit wound. Very impressive, and flies better than any other broadhead I have used to date.

    Hunting out of a blind

Great comments TJ. I think you are right on. I want to just clarify my comment above. I stated that ground blinds are "largely" overated. Just like thinking a fancy rifle, scope, or pair of binoculars is the recipe for success, I think some are under the false impression that you can just throw out a blind wherever you want, sit in it and shoot a deer in an hour. If you use them properly, and you can keep them from getting ripped off, then they can definitely be an asset. Last fall archery season I sat and watched this joker try to set up a blind in the middle of a dirt road about 5 yards from a cattle drinker in 100 degree weather. He fought this thing for at least a half an hour, having it repeatedly collapse on him, and him throwing it to the ground and stomping on it over and over. It actually was quite humorous from a distance. Anyway, I think this thread is providing some great information, and hopefully others chime in with their thoughts and experiences.

    Hunting out of a blind

Honestly, I think blinds are largely overrated. If you are in head to toe camo, up against some good cover, and the wind is right, the deer will come right in. If you put a blind in early it could get ripped off, and if someone beats you in that morning you have lost your spot. I had several good opportunities last season with just me and my fancy pants homemade stool. At one point I had a doe and a fawn come in and drink, then feed over to less than 10 yards from me and never even flinched. My rear was so sore from sitting motionless for the last hour and a half, that I finally had to stand up, and oh my gosh did they come unglued. Either way, good luck!

    Paper tuning

Take it into PSE during a slow time and ask them to take a look at your form. 0.5 cm is not much, and if it is something obvious, they will point it out. Usually if you are shooting a PSE, they don't charge anything for it. They are not looking to nickel and dime for everything, which is nice. 7595's should be fine for your poundage and speed. I used the 5575's on my slower bow, and they seemed a little under spined for what the charts claim, so I would hesitate to think that would be your solution. Good luck.

    Hunting season just opened

I would treat them like a nice buck you are trying to pattern. Go purchase some non working (but nice looking) equipment from a swap meat or garage sale. Put it out in plain sight, and make it appear available. Invest in some IR game cams, and mount them such that you can get photos of them without them knowing about it. Turn them into the cops, and have their tails hauled off to jail. You need to be very careful not to let your emotions lead you to take action that could potentially tie you up legally, or even land you in jail. The laws about using deadly force to defend your property against thieves have a lot of gray area, and in the end you would be subject to their interpretation by a jury of your peers. You and your family are not worth this risk, so do yourself a favor and find a way to handle this from a distance. This is just my advice, take it or leave it. As a father of 4 young kids, all I know is that their safety and our family stability is more important than anything, and it is not something worth risking. Good luck, and I hope you can find a way to nail these dirt bags.

Inverter Broadhead test #2 Cinder Block

Finally went into PSE and bought a pack of these. I went out yesterday for a couple hours to test them out. I shoot an Xforce Dreamseason with 80 lb limbs, Gold tip arrows, 29 inch draw length, with an arrow speed of just over 330 f/s. I shot them from 20 to 60 yard, in 10 yard increments. They flew exactly like my field points at each distance. The o-ring was not damaged, and was reusable after each shot. I have always been a strong skeptic of mechanicals, but will have these in my quiver in the fall, beside some montecs.

    first come to water holes?

It's no different than while scouting, finding another hunter glassing from a hill that you plan to glass from during the hunt. If you are there earlier than him on any day, than it is yours. Another solution I have found, especially in the fall, is that there are few who are willing to sit out in the middle of the day in 100 degree weather and wait for deer. Find a lower elevation tank, and if you are there between 10 and 4, you will most likely have it to yourself. And by the way, it just happens that this is the time window that I have found most animals drinking anyway. Good luck.

    New Broadhead , Inverter

It is interesting to me that there was so much hype about this broadhead, and now nothing. No response to PM's or inquiries, and no online availability. Do I smell a Swhacker lawsuit?????

    Springfield 1903

I am selling my Springfield 1903 30-06. It has serial number 1155608. I had it handed down to me from my dad, and had planned to set it up for my son to hunt with, but decided to sell it and get him something newer and lighter. It is sporterized, but is in good shape and shoots well. With the sale of this I am out of the 30-06 business, so I am also including 70 loaded rounds (150 grain nosler balistic tips), 45 sized and primed cases, and a set of RCBS dies. I am not looking to get a fortune, just someone who appreciates this and will find a good use for it. PM me if you want more photos or have questions. I prefer FTF sale in Tucson or as far north as Casa Grande, and am heading to Morenci next weekend and could meet then. I would like to get $250 for it all. Sorry, no trades at this time.

  21. Thought I would share some photos to help pass some time in the off-season. First photo is of a cow I passed in 36a during the Dec. archery hunt. If I ever think I have had a bad day, I think of this guy. Someone (or something) always has it worse. Second photo is of a little owl that was sitting about 3 feet off a dirt road in 33. I thought it was a statue or toy of some sort, so I stopped and backed up to take a closer look. He had his eyes closed, and I walked slowly up to it with my camera, and took these photos from about 5 feet away. It then slowly opened one eye, then the other, looked at me for a few seconds and flew off. I would be interested in what kind of owl this is. Anyway, enjoy!
  22. I came across this story on another website, and just had to share it. I can vividly remember as a 6 year old boy taking a shot at a moose in our campground at Yellowstone Park, and my dad ripping me a new one for it. Oh, the memories.... Something to kill some time in the off season. Enjoy. For all young bow hunters Life as a child Around age 10 my dad got me one of those wicked little compound bow beginner kits. Of course, the first month I went around our land sticking arrows in anything that could get stuck by an arrow. Did you know that a 1955 40 horse Farmall tractor will take 6 rounds before it goes down? Tough sumb****. That got boring, so being the 10 yr. old Dukes of Hazard fan that I was, I quickly advanced to taking strips of cut up T-shirt doused in chainsaw gas tied around the end and was sending flaming arrows all over the place. Keep in mind this was 99.999% humidity swampland so there really wasn't any fire danger. Ill put it this way- a set of post hole diggers and a 3 ft.. hole and you had yourself a well. One summer afternoon, I was shooting flaming arrows into a large rotten oak stump in our backyard. I looked over under the carport and see a shiny brand new can of starting fluid (ether). The light bulb went off. I grabbed the can and set it on the stump. I thought that it would probably just spray out in a disappointing manner...lets face it to a 10 yr old mouth-breather like myself ether, really doesn't "sound" flammable. So, I went back into the house and got a 1 pound can of pyrodex (black powder for muzzle loader rifles). At this point, I set the can of ether on the stump and opened up the can of black powder. My intentions were to sprinkle a little bit around the ether can but it all sorta dumped out on me. No biggie... 1 lb pyrodex and 16 oz ether should make a loud pop, kinda like a firecracker you know? You know what? Screw that, I'm going back in the house for the other can. Yes, I got a second can of pyrodex and dumped it too. Now we're cookin'. I stepped back about 15 ft and lit the 2 stroke arrow. I drew the nock to my cheek and took aim. As I released I heard a clunk as the arrow launched from my bow. In a slow motion time frame, I turned to see my dad getting out of the truck... OH ***** he just got home from work. So help me it took 10 minutes for that arrow to go from my bow to the can. My dad was walking towards me in slow motion with a *** look in his eyes. I turned back towards my target just in time to see the arrow pierce the starting fluid can right at the bottom. Right through the main pile of pyrodex and into the can. Oh ****. When the shock wave hit it knocked me off my feet. I don't know if it was the actual compression wave that threw me back or just reflex jerk back from 235 fricking decibels of sound. I caught a half a millisecond glimpse of the violence during the initial explosion and I will tell you there was dust, grass, and bugs all hovering 1 ft above the ground as far as I could see. It was like a little low to the ground layer of dust fog full of grasshoppers, spiders, and a crawfish or two. The daylight turned purple. Let me repeat this...THE FRICKING DAYLIGHT TURNED PURPLE. There was a big sweetgum tree out by the gate going into the pasture. Notice I said "was". That son-of-a-(edit) got up and ran off. So here I am, on the ground blown completely out of my shoes with my thundercats T-Shirt shredded, my dad is on the other side of the carport having what I can only assume is a Vietnam flashback: ECHO BRAVO CHARLIE YOUR BRINGIN' EM IN TOO CLOSE!! CEASE FIRE. CEASE FIRE!!!!! His hat has blown off and is 30 ft behind him in the driveway. All windows on the north side of the house are blown out and there is a slow rolling mushroom cloud about 2000 ft over our backyard. There is a Honda 185cc 3 wheeler parked on the other side of the yard and the fenders are drooped down and are now touching the tires. I wish I knew what I said to my dad at this moment. I don't know- I know I said something. I couldn't hear. I couldn't hear inside my own head. I don't think he heard me either... not that it would really matter. I don't remember much from this point on. I said something, felt a sharp pain, and then woke up later. I felt a sharp pain, blacked out, woke later....repeat this process for an hour or so and you get the idea. I remember at one point my mom had to give me CPR so dad could beat me some more. "Bring him back to life so dad can kill him again!" Thanks Mom. One thing is for sure... I never had to mow around that stump again, Mom had been ******** about that thing for years and dad never did anything about it. I stepped up to the plate and handled business. Dad sold his muzzle loader a week or so later. And I still have some sort of bone growth abnormality either from the blast or the beating. Or both. I guess what I'm trying to say is, get your kids into archery. It's good discipline and will teach them skills they can use later on in life.
  23. Thanks! I don't have the big bucks to support my hobby (addiction), so I have to find ways to improvise.

Best stool for a ground blind?

This one! There is only one in the world, and it's mine. Full 360 degree swivel, and adjustable legs. Will never win a beauty contest, but it is easy to haul, and I can sit on it all day.
