First Coues Last Day (Story & Pics)
John O replied to GJMauro12's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Very nice!! Congratulations, and great write up. -
Had a great hunt down south with my two boys this last weekend. We had several close calls with deer, but no antlers on the ground. Jake was able to take this little female javelina at 200 yards mid-afternoon on the second day. Jake was only 10 when he shot his first big game animal, a javelina in unit 33. Since then, these little critters have found a way to elude him each year until now. He and his brother were excited to say the least. As you can see, the boys have grown some since. Very few things compare to these good times with my boys, and I recognize more every year the limited time we have to share these special experiences together.

This is a great price! I have looked through these, and they are perfect. I just sold a similar pair on ebay for $675, so it's a heck of a deal. Comon people, support your local CW.com members!!!!

Nice job Garrett, and great job joe. Sure a nice backdrop from where you were at.

Way to to go! Congratulations on a nice buck.

They both look awesome!! Archery does it for me, so I would take the 170 mulie.

Looks like a great time Devan!! Congrats. How was the body on your buck? What round, and how did the bullet perform? Now you should be ready to get back south and do some REAL hunting again.

I have a really nice pair of Leica Trinovid BA 8X42's for sale. I bought them in like new condition and used them for one season. Glass is in excellent shape. Hate to let these go, but I am looking to upgrade in some other areas. I would prefer FTF. Live in Tucson, but could meet as far as Vail, or Picacho. Feel free to PM me with questions. $750 Firm.

I didn't post this last year but I helped a friend get his first deer on the late Nov. hunt. We had one day, and after missing a shot at a decent forkie he shot this little guy who stayed bedded. I have never seen anything this small, and I assured him he just made book for one of the smallest coues buck ever shot in this state. We had a good laugh for sure. I would challenge anyone to post a photo of a smaller one. Good times!!

Way to go Stan!! Congrats to all the young ones and their success. Great memories for sure.

Not bad for an old guy!! Way to go man. Got to get back here sometime and chase some real monsters one of these years. Send me some Jerky!!

So assuming they both group well, and plenty of KE for a pass through, would you prefer a 1.5" three blade or a 2" two blade mechanical for whitetail. I have shot both deer and pigs with two and three blade designs, with mixed results (and yes I realize shot placement plays a HUGE part in this). I think I have made up my mind, but would like to get some additional feedback.

**New arrival Athens R-120, but bittersweet.....
John O replied to hoghntr's topic in Bows, arrows, broadheads
If it's really a passion worth staying with, perhaps consider shooting left handed. I'll bet your right shoulder would take it well because you are pushing instead of pulling. Just a thought. -
Awesome story! Way to stick with it. I think the CWT.com buck contest has a new lead in a couple of categories.

SCI Jr. Camp 2011 36A SUCCESS!!
John O replied to azffhunter's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
How cool is that!! Nothing like hunting with the kids. Way to go! -
Just curious- Can you be a little more specific about "encountered". Did you end up face to face, or did you glass them from a distance? Did they know you were there? The more you can share, the more you might be able to help some others who hunt down there. Thanks.

Nice Job! Always nice when things come together.

2012 ARCHERY COUES DEER AND MY FIRST ARCHERY ANIMAL
John O replied to oz31p's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Way to stick with it! Trophies aren't always over 100 inches. Enjoy the tender cuts. -
Generally when I am sitting in a good spot, I expect to have deer come about every 45 minutes through the "busy" part of the day. This is enough to keep me excited enough to stay, without it dragging on too long. If nothing comes in all day, that is tough. In the area I hunt, sitting from dawn until about 11 am is fairly unproductive. So I spot and stalk until just before lunch, then park it for the rest of the day. If you have a good spot and invest the time you should have opportunity. Good luck!
