Not exactly what you're looking for, but I am looking to offload a Remington 722 257 Roberts.

You can get a Marlin X7 youth model for a very good price new. I have two and have been very happy with them as a starter rifle. Look online, they get lots of good reviews. Good luck!

Please don't waste your money on these. Several good options in the $350-$700 range that have been recommended will work great. I saw a pair of monarch 12X56's on ebay the other day for $400. Good luck.

Gas your car up the day before. Fumes from filling up the morning of will totally blow any chance of scent control you are hoping for. A few others: Range Finder Cheap Pancho GPS Extra Batteries Flashlight Multi-tool Let someone know where you are and when you'll be back

I would highly recommend the Nikon Monarch 12x56's. Used a pair for a year and a half before buying my Kaibabs, and I would say they are 80-90% as good as them. I don't think they make them anymore, but you can still find them online for about 400 bucks. Very solid glass, and no-fault lifetime warranty. If not these, than for a little more you can get some viper 15x50's. Not a huge difference in clarity, but brighter. Good luck!!

Lots of good info in this thread. Thanks all for chiming in. I'll just add a few things that have worked for me: - I do a lot of off season scouting so I am very familiar with the areas I will be hunting. - I always hunt areas that either have good cell phone reception, or have a short hike to a spot with known reception. - For any area I will be hunting in that is a significant hike, I go on a pre-hunt hike and save the track in my GPS so I can find my way out safely in the dark. - I carry a compact 40, with an extra mag. - I let someone know when I expect to be back, and tell them where I will be. They know to come looking if I don't check in by a certain time. - I have several good friends who work for Border Patrol, and are down there a lot. I ask them often if there are particular areas of the unit that have had an uptick of activity, or are unsafe to scout in. Their information has helped a lot, as most of the areas I go to have very little activity. - I don't let the fear of what could happen keep me from having a great time. At the same time, I am not ignorant of the dangers in hunting down there, and am hypersensitive to the conditions and my surroundings. - Lastly, I am not looking to make a statement or cause trouble should I encounter a situation. I believe anyone I run into would feel the same. I am happy to call Border Patrol if needed, but I have no desire to take matters into my own hands. Last year we glassed up a group on a saddle, and were able to call their coordinates in to Border Patrol. It was cool to watch it all happen when the agents on horseback showed up and busted them all. Attached is a photo of it going down. If you look on the left side of the photo, you can see one of the BP agents on horseback coming in. Good luck to all, and be safe.

Yes, it does make sense for December 36B, because it is the 1-2 pass. If you pull the bonus pass report, and then couple that with the 1-2 pass, it makes sense.

Weaver Scope, Savage 110 Stock, Weaver Rings **Prices Reduced**
John O posted a topic in Classified Ads
I have an old weaver K4 60B scope, two sets of weaver rings, and a savage 110 stock for sale. The scope has a small crack on the lower side of the objective, but is still clear and functional. Would make a nice scope on a youth starter rifle or pellet gun, or for a show piece. I had 1/2" cut off of the stock, as I used it for a youth rifle for several years for my boys. They are both over 6 feet tall now, so I have upgraded to a full size. It would work well for a youth, or for a project. The rings are used, but would work fine on any rifle. One is offset, and the individual base is weaver #46. See photos. $10 for the scope **SOLD** $10 for the rings **SOLD** $20 for the stock Prefer FTF in the Tucson area -

Scope is used but in excellent condition, used for one hunt. Has one small dent on the scope tube, but does not affect functionality. I am changing to a scope with a BDC reticle, so this one needs to go. Would prefer FTF in the Tucson area. Feel free to IM me with questions. $100

What unit do you plan on hunting in?
-
If he's really your "Buddy" he wouldn't be asking you for money. I suggest you take the time to find some real buddies, or just hunt on your own. Aside from hunting with my kids, my best days in the field have been on my own. Good luck!

If you are in or near Tucson, try Liberty Pawn on South 4th Ave. Ask for Mike. They have a decent Savage 110 with a laminate stock for $325. Can't go wrong with the 110.
