Federal 215 primer super tight in new brass and one real bad
300RUM replied to apache12's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
It is always good tho know who provides excellent customer service. The last batch of R-P 6.8mm SPC brass I bought had primer pockets that were not deep enough. Midway would have gladly exchanged it, but i noticed the product was now on backorder. I have a primer pocket reamer that fits in a cordless drill. I use it to prep my bolt gun brass. It did not take long to fix them, but it was nice to know I could have returned them hassle free if needed. -

Did they let you keep the old brass? If so ream the primer pockets and load it. -
I have been using OnX for over 6 years and really like it. I do the download rather than a chip and run it on my computer as well as the GPS. Having the software on the computer is handy when you are at home planning a hunt. I am not sure if you can do that with a chip. I have no experience with Garmin huntview.

I was sitting here bored yesterday and thought about a custom .260 I had looked at in the classifieds. How nice it would have been if the bolt were on the right side, no I mean the left side. OK, I will stop right there! If you read “the right rifle ???” you have witnessed firsthand what a train wreck following that thought can turn into in the English language. What can I say? I was bored. I expected there would be a few creative responses. Lance, where did you come up with yours? One, from W250, was actually rather interesting and right on target. “You're right except for the left part.” I am partially right handed and partially left handed. I would not consider myself completely ambidextrous. I will do some things either left or right but most are done one way or the other. I write right handed but my writing has left hand tendencies. I carry a pistol right handed but aim with my left eye. I shoot bows and rifles left handed. When I used to shoot pool or play softball I could switch from left to right and be effective either way. This list goes on and on. I apparently got a little cross wired when I was built. I’m just curious if anyone else has things they do right of left handed that deviate from their normal right or left handed orientation.

I missed something here the first time. Nosler brass is produced by Norma. Looks like the problem is at Norma. -

A complete Remington action is $ 520 at Brownells (or just buy a rifle), $120 + for a good picatinny rail and $50 for a good recoil lug. You are at $700 and the action is still not blueprinted. What is the cost of blueprinting? $200 to $300? That price doesn't sound to bad. -

Any of you who are having this problem have a micrometer? Those primers should have a diameter of 0.210 to 0.211. This is starting to sound like a Federal problem. I am using Winchester. I just put a Mitutoyo mic on one, 0.210 dead on. All it is going to take is an extra thousandth or two to start causing problems. -
I have never tried a shilen, couldn't figure out if they would work in a LH gun. The Jewel clearly said LH and I hit the order button. My last 2 Rem 700s came with the pro mark x. I do have an effective repair procedure for them. It involves a large hammer.
-
Rifle empty with no sling or bipod was 9.4 lbs. we were just a hair over .5 minute 5 shot groups with the factory trigger. Haven't shot yet with the shilen installed but I hope we can squeeze them together a little better with a smoother trigger. That "factory trigger" I assume is a nice vintage 1986 version, not a pro mark x. How did you keep a rifle for 20 years and not shoot it?

I'm with you on keeping the weight down. I run a #4 contour magnum sporter barrel on my .300 RUM. I'm not worried about heat build up, hunting you only fire hopefully once, maybe twice. Anything more and you are likely beginning to have a bad day. The heavier a rifle is the harder it is to pull it off target with minor movements when firing. I have A 7mm-08 AI that is under 7.5 lbs loaded and ready to go. It is a bit trickier to shoot well compared to my heaver rifles. Weight dose reduce recoil and make the gun easier to shoot, however it sucks when you are packing the extra weight.

Norma may have produced the brass but Weatherby contracted them to do it and put a Weatherby headstamp on it. They then put it in a box that said Weatherby on it and sold it to you. Sounds like Weatherby's problem to me. Who did you buy it from. Someone like Midway would take a return on it but it would have to remove the primers first. -
If you don't aim with your dominant eye It will most likely cause problems. I am left eye dominant but for some reason feel the need to carry a pistol right handed. I used to shoot 3 gun and occasionally someone would try and coach me on my pistol stance. I would tell them "OK, aim with your left eye and show me how it is done". Kind of fun to watch them fumble around with that one.

Your brass has a Weatherby headstamp, is Norma producing it for them? -
If I read that correctly you shoot a rifle left but a bow right? that would be real unusual. We may have been on the assembly line around the same time. Do you think they ever issued a recall?

The primer pocket is formed by a stamping process and the flash hole is punched. Tolerances are not always precise. I use reamers that uniform both before I load the brass for the first time. -
Cabelas? Bass Pro? No it is still Cabelas for the time being. A deal between Cabelas visa and Worlds Foremost Bank has postponed and possibly cancelled the deal. CAB is still trading on NYSE.

I had a problem and it turned out to have something to do with the fact that I have a lifetime licence. I called and they fixed it for me right away.
-
I did that also, problem solved. If I remember correctly the fees for the lifetime licences are held in an investment account, the principal is never spent, only whatever is gained is used. It becomes a long term funding source that does not get used up.

I went to look at a rifle. I thought might be the right one for me and told them I would be there right away. The directions to get there said to turn right. When I got there they invited me right in. I looked at the rifle and its bolt was on the right side. For me the right is the wrong side because the left side really the right side. Had the bolt been on the left side I might have said “right on”. I didn’t want to buy the rifle unless everything was right, because I hate to be wrong. They said "yea, right" when I offered $100. Right now I’m really not sure what to do. Everyone understands all of this very clearly, right? How do we function with this language?

You are lucky. I didn't get my first LH bolt gun till I was in my 30s. I can't see the whole gun. Dare I ask, does it have a muzzle brake? lolNo brake right now Right now? If you are looking check out the OPS r3e2c. It has design features that do not substantially increase the decibel level at the shooters position. Their primary business is military grade supressors.

Dremel is a rough way to go. If you have a set of 3/8 or 1/2 in sockets use the different sizes with sandpaper wrapped around them to open up the barrel channel. Yes, it takes a little longer, but it does not look like a rat chewed on it when you are done.

The pictures aren't crooked, you're just practicing inclined shooting. Nice looking rifle.
