I have a CED and a Magneto Speed. Since I bought the Magneto Speed the only time I use the CED is with pistols or bows. If you work with large capacity cases like a .300 RUM the muzzle blast can blind the sensors on a screen type chrono unless it is a long way from the muzzle. It is also much harder to shoot a Magneto Speed. I have had it for years and never done it. I know I'm an Ace when it comes to standard screens. At least 5 confirmed kills.

Axisworks Eric: Evil Genius or Meticulous Artist?
300RUM replied to lancetkenyon's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Probably both. As far as meticulous artist I watched him change out a part in one of the CNC machines. He uses a torque wrench to tighten the vise when he puts the next part in. Now that is attention to detail. -
Then why go through all the trouble of cutting a lock? It would be much easier for someone with that mentality to pull the SD card then put a bullet through the camera. I think cutting the lock indicates they wanted the camera intact. They may still also have an agenda to prevent others from having a camera on that spot.

I do plenty of scouting from my chair. Three programs, Topo, On-X Maps and Google Earth. Once I think I have some good Ideas I get my butt out into the field and physically check the spots. Are you going to complain about this new site for about 5 pages then purchase their product also?

Archery antelope is definitely challenge. I had my chance years back in unit 1 and crashed and burned. Congratulations to your son for getting it done.

Can you ID these two wonderful individuals in 7E?

A single-digit IQ still beats three digit IQ that's on the wrong side of the decimal point. I'll be polite and not implicate anybody there. -
Pressure Signs Early/Well before MAX *AND W/Factory Ammunition*

Maybe it's just time to give up and buy a bow. -
Pressure Signs Early/Well before MAX *AND W/Factory Ammunition*
300RUM replied to CouesPursuit's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Take a no-go gauge to the gun store and put it in factory rifles. With a number of them the bolt will close on it. The rifle is considered in specification until it closes on a field gauge which is 0.010 over the Go gauge. In a meticulously clean bench gun you can run zero headspace and just neck size with an occasional shoulder bump. If you try that with hunting rifle you are more likely to end up with a stuck case. A real tight chamber to round fit and just a little bit of dirt equals trouble. -
Sounds like you had some challenges but I think you got off pretty easy. Maybe thats because two of my last three New Mexico hunts put me in the emergency room. I've never so much as had to see a doctor because of an Arizona hunt. New Mexico seems to have an appetite for me. Sounds like you had a good hunt and congratulations on the buck.

My close in vision is deteriorating but my distance vision is fine. I wear reading glasses to see things clearly that are within Arm's Reach. That would now include the sight pins on my bow. The best solution I have come up with is to wear a pair of low magnification reading glasses that help me see the pins but don't blur the target so much. If anybody has any other suggestions I would sure like to hear them.

Best Case Trimmer for 300 RUM???
300RUM replied to gaps's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
World's Finest Trimer. It is made to work with a cordless drill. Fast and consistent. I have also done the same the same thing rossislider suggested. Works pretty good. Just be sure to keep the shaft lubed. It's getting spun much faster than it would by hand. -
It's the East Verde. I used to swim in it when I was a kid. I don't remember it being real cold.

There is an old thread from 2011 titled Desert Bull Scouting that also addresses this subject. -
Pressure Signs Early/Well before MAX *AND W/Factory Ammunition*
300RUM replied to CouesPursuit's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I have worked with a number of rifles that hated a particular bullet but it's always been an accuracy issue. I have experience minor pressure differences with same weight bullets from different manufacturers using the same powder but nothing like you describe. If the gun works well works well with other bullets I would just dump those160 Nosler AB's and consider the problem solved. -

I'm a little confused. You've done a lot of complaining about hunting spots being sold . If you are purchasing the maps doesn't that make you a contributing party to the "problem" you're complaining about? -
I would be inclined to try sanding out the barrel channel in the stock so the barrel was floated. You'll still have a light Barrel that can heat quickly and shift point of impact but you won't have the additional complication of pressure points on that barrel from the stock.

How far from your glassing spots do you camp?
300RUM replied to broadhead's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Used to do a lot of backpack hunting the Wilderness when I was younger and in better shape. We would drop about a quarter mile off the ridge we glassed from to pitch camp. Keep a quiet camp and you won't bother the animals. -
I kind of like the big areas that don't allow motor vehicle travel, until I have to pack my elk out. It's the closure that makes it a better hunting area but the pack out much worse. A blessing and a curse. Last time I hunted 5B South I saw some signs at specified " no motorized wheeled vehicles". I happen to own a bulldozer and thought it would be fun to bring it along. I have 5B South myself this year again maybe we'll cross paths in the field. Good luck finding a spot for your father.

You're easy. I think there's an 80-proof minimum on that thing.

This guy makes me think of a quote from Donald Southerland in Kelley's Heroes. "Why don't you nock it off with those negative waves." -
There is also a hiking trail that makes it down to the south end of Chevelon Canyon Lake off the 4B side.

Are free-range animal crackers supposed to be healthier for you?

The liquid on the threads would allow the fastener to clamp slightly tighter in relation to a dry fastener when the same torque was applied. If a torque wrench was used along with a proper tightening pattern it would seem impossible the the addition of loc-tite would have any chance of causing a shift in the scope mounts. As long as the torque is even on all of the fasteners there should be no shift. I think the guy who told you that needs to go take one of those tests where you pee in a bottle.

Do you have a biology degree? Somehow I doubt it. The bear hunting regulations set a harvest limit. This is done with the understanding that even if the harvest limit is met on the first Saturday of the hunt it will remain open till sundown on Wednesday. It is expected that more bears may be taken between the time the harvest limit is met and the time the hunt closes. Harvest limits are set accordingly. If the harvest objective is met in the first week the unit is closed for the rest of the year. The plan controls the harvest and still gives hunters a block of time in remote areas with only a weekly check in to see if a hunt is still open. Would you prefer to have to go find a location with phone service to check in every night at sundown to see if you could continue to hunt tomorrow?
