    7mm-08

I have, but my gun is an Ackley improved with an over length Wyatt's box. It has a 20 inch barrel. I can fire a 140 grain NBT at 2950 FPS using either Varget or h4895.
  2. As an experiment the last couple of strikers assemblies that I cleaned I reassembled with a dry graphite powder lubricant. It's a product commonly used to lubricate lock tumblers where you really do not want anything to get gummy or collect dirt. So far so good.

    Cartridge Collection

That is not so bad you just shuffle them over to make room for the new one. What sucks is when you bump the shelf and knock them all over. Then there are dilemmas like the .244 Remington and the 6 mm Remington, do you want both?

    Cartridge Collection

It is an interesting hobby. I have not actively collected for years and my collection is all backed away in boxes as I have nowhere to display it. The number of cartridges is around 600. Below is a photo of some of I dug out to show someone a few weeks ago. From left to right .300 Remington Ultra Mag As a scale 7.92 x 94 Patronen A German WWII era anti-tank rifle round .50 BMG 12.7 x 108 Soviet 14.5 x 114 Soviet The largest round I am aware of that has been used by a sniper .60 US Machine gun Developed at the end of WWII, the case is similar to 20 mm cannon rounds for gatling guns.

    Lightweight Build

The Nosler website load data includes a load density % for the powder charge. They only list 3 powders, not H1000. I expect the book may list more powder choices. You might ask around and see If someone has the book.
  6. I am partial to brake cleaner. It removes grease and oil very well and leaves no residue once it dries.
  7. I am not familiar with the Tika but a Remington 700 would run an average of 0.050 protrusion on the pin. Did you measure 0.07 or 0.007? The later would result in a very light strike. I would disassemble the firing pin assembly, thoroughly clean the bolt where the pin slides through, clean the pin, inspect the spring, lightly oil the parts and reassemble it. I broke down a friends 700 that had similar symptoms and found a small piece of debris inside the bolt that was preventing proper movement of the firing pin. A little cleaning and it was good to go.

    Mules for hire??unit 21

Before age and injuries slowed us down my partner and I used to do multi day hunting pack trips into the Pine Mtn. wilderness. One time as we were scaling the switchbacks along the Verde Rim with very heavy packs he was muttering about going and doing that.

    Long Tom Ridge fire damage?

I will be heading up to Forest Lakes for archery season to spend some time with my parents and do some hunting and fishing. I have, or had, some favorite hunting spots by Long Tom. Can anyone tell me how bad the area burnt?

    Long Tom Ridge fire damage?

I will be up there all of opening week. Your wife have bull or cow? I would be happy to keep track of where I encounter elk while I am there and get the information to you if you are interested.

    Trekking poles for hunting?

Concern about them getting tangled in brush is one of the main reasons I have not tried them before. I can see myself having a temper tantrum if they constantly became tangled in brush. I ordered ones that can collapse to 30 inches so I could put them in my pack if things get to thick.

    OnXmap

A free trial of on X Maps? And Antelope hunt in New Mexico? Been there done that. I can assure you on X Maps will not show you the mouth of the burrow you're about to step in and blow up an ankle. Other than that it's wonderful software. I've used it for around seven years on a desktop and a GPS but never on a phone. If you want give me a call I'll give you what help I can. 480 993 5507 Lee

    Long Tom Ridge fire damage?

I appreciate the input. I remember going back to 1 and 27 after the Wallow Fire and all my favorite spots look like a nuclear blast zone.

    Trekking poles for hunting?

I appreciate all the responses. I have a set ordered.
  16. There is a Custom Knife maker that builds his own Damascus blades in Gold Canyon. I can't think of his name right now but if I remember I will get it to you.

    Hunting beards

Wastewater treatment? What might get stuck in there? It sounds like the potential to bring a whole new meaning to the term "s*** faced".

    Hunting beards

I've gutted a few animals. I can back a pair of semi trailers where I want them while they are coupled together. I can not stand having a beard. How does that fit into the rules? I'm not sure I really want to hear the answers.

    New to bear hunting

I got mine at 40 yards spot and stalk, you could also sit in a blind at a water source you knew they visited if you would prefer that. With a bear you do want a bit of time to observe them before you shoot. You need to be sure it is not a sow with cubs.

    Decision help please

I have been shooting a 6.8 for over 10 years and like it. I use it in a carbine for hunting where shots will be inside 300 yards. The main reason I chose the 6.8 over the 6.5 at the time was that the Grendel was a propriatery cartridge owned by Alexander Arms. They have since released the rights to the cartridge and it now a SAAMI listed cartridge. The here is not a huge difference between the two. Depending on the loads compared the SPC will often have a slight advantage in energy inside of 300 yards. as you move out to 400 yards and beyond the advantage will generally shift to the Grendel with it's higher BC bullets. Today if I were to build another carbine I would use the SPC, for a full size upper for longer range I would use the Grendel. I have been handloading 140 gr bullets in the SPC for years and it is possible to get over 2400 fps from a 16" barrel. I have never worked with a Grendel.
  23. I can test everything it does with a few sheets of plain printer paper and some adhesive blaze orange dots.

if Cactus Jack left a tripod breadcrumb trail and you've only passed 4 or 5 you wouldn't even be close to getting to him.
