Eberlestock has the X4 High speed pack in unicam II on close out for $ 107 on their website. The packs normally go for $179. Other colors are still regular price.

I will probably use my heavier pack and rifle this deer season and have an injured ankle that is more prone to rolling to one side when I carry a heavier load, especially in steep, loose terrain. I have been considering getting a set of trekking poles to help stabilize myself with my arms and take a little load off the ankle. I have seen many backpackers using them on hiking trails in the wilderness and they seem to work quite well for them. I would be moving cross country and have concerns they they would get tangled is stuff like scrub oak and mansanita and become an annoyance. If you have used trekking poles moving cross country while hunting I would be interested in your opinions on the pros and cons of doing so.

My father is a retired aerospace engineer. He and some of his friends still like to get involved with military R&D contracts. I am in his office at his cabin and he is looking around on the computer for interesting contracts. He just had one up on the screen for the U.S. Army. The contract was awarded to Moscow State University ????

This was definitely Moscow Russia. That is not even close to being on a list of places I would expect to find a contractor doing R&D work for the US Military

Huge shot out to Eric at AxisworksAZ for building my 300 Win Mag
300RUM replied to Adicted's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I just bought a heavy Palmer Kreiger barrel and want to spiral flute it just for looks. The HP is a 2 -1/2 pounds more than a sendor barrel. How much weight did it shave off? Gun looks sweet though On the Lilja website there is a free barrel weight calculator under the "computer software" heading. -
AxisWorks 6.5 SS Custom Rifle Build

I had a chance to check out the action when I picked up a bolt. He did not have it barreled yet. That is one sweet action. The finished rifle looks real sharp. -
Awesome buck! I had a unit 1 archery tag about 10 years ago and ended up getting skunked. I have never had so much fun getting skunked on a hunt. I was constantly stalking something, it was a blast.

If you get an swivel model there is an aftermarket lever called a pod-loc that replaces the little wheel the bi-pod comes with. It is quicker to use and you get a tighter lock.

Huge shot out to Eric at AxisworksAZ for building my 300 Win Mag

Eric is a great guy and does some beautiful work. I pretty much do all of my own gunsmithing but there are some things a just can't do myself. I took him a bolt to spiral flute and while I was there he took the time to show me the builds he was working on. When he realized I was hobby machinist he took some more time to show me some of the aerospace projects the big machines were running at the time. It was a very fun trip to the gunsmith. -
80 grit with a finish pass of 120 worked well. That stock is an HS. Grit choice may vary with stock material. A note for anyone wondering about the sanding marks on the barrel. It had nothing to do with sanding the stock. When I re-barrel this gun I spin the new barrel in the lathe and run a coarse paper pack and forth to produce that finish. It is my Idea of a quick and easy low glare finish for stainless.

I am sure I am not the first to figure this one out but thought I would share and possibly make someones life easier. Sanding out a barrel channel for a larger barrel is something I always felt was a rather tedious project. I currently am switching a rifle from a 4 to 5 contour. It occurred to me before I removed the 4 it was the perfect sanding guide. The 4 has 0.650 muzzle and the 5 a 0.700 for a 0.025 increase in radius. I slid a piece of sandpaper between the stock and barrel then added sheets of paper till I had a slightly snug fit and started sanding. After a few passes I added another piece of paper until I had added a total of 5 more. Each piece of paper was 0.004 so I had increased the barrel channel by the needed 0.025 following the taper of the barrel. It was a fast process. Pull the sand paper straight up so you do not flare out the top edge of the stock. Only sand the taper of the barrel, not the chamber. The chamber area dimensions will be similar between the barrels.

HNDLDR I'm sure I probably have some extras in duplicates laying around that might interest you. Getting ready to take off for a week's vacation but I could dig them up and let you know what I have when I get back if you're interested. What city do you live in?

I load around 3.790 COAL which feeds through a Wyatt's MBE 3 extended mag. Does your gun happen to have the x mark Pro Factory adjustable trigger? A couple of my rifles came with them and my opinion they are a terrible trigger. I replaced them with a jewel and a timney and accuracy improved.

Firing pin not striking primer hard enough to ignite

Susceptible to moisture would be a problem. I got some on my fingers a while back lubing a locked. It seems like an interesting possibility. The link to the test you posted looks interesting. Looks like I have reading material for a rain day on the upcoming hunt. Thanks -
In my opinion 165 gr bullets are a little light for the round, I use bullets in the 180 to 210 range. I strongly recommend you try retumbo for powder. I use the following charges (+ or - for load tuning) for these bullet weights. 100 gr for 180 gr bullet, 97 for 190 gr bullet, 91 gr for 210 gr bullet. Some barrels simply do not like certain bullets. I am in the process of re-barreling my .300 and have no reason to expect the load I was using will work as well in the new barrel. You should be able to buy the Barnes bullets that you get 1 MOA from and load them yourself. You might also try some bullets from different manufactures like Berger or Hornady and see if that improves grouping. What brand is the rifle?

I don't see it so much as a navigational problem. I'm sure they knew where they were and where they were going. To me it seems like there was a major situational awareness problem. They had no clue what was going on around them.

I would take you up on that. It is a lot of the new newer stuff that I don't have, The WSM, WSSM, RUM & SAUM series along with things like 6.5 Grendle and 6.5 Creedmore. I have the .300 RUM & 6.8 SPC just because I shoot them. Cool, I live in Chandler too so it should be easy if you'd like to meet us sometime. I can bring a couple different loads of each, you can have what you'd like. Would be fun to contribute to the collection. that would be great. I'm leaving Friday for a week's vacation to go fling some arrows and lose some lures. Maybe we can catch up sometime after that. I'm around Rural and Chandler Boulevard.

Looks like I read wrong, I thought the hollow point and AP were two different items. The black color makes sense in a way, black is the NATO color code for AP. Does that one have a hardened penetrator rod in the center of the projectile?

Woodworking is definitely an art. I rebarrel and rechamber my own guns. I will even cut a taper Barrel from a straight blank, reshaping the metal in 0.001 increments. I'm not a gunsmith or machinist just a hobbyist. If I try to build something nice out of wood like you did it turns into a mess. I can't explain why.

Assuming this is on public land the fact that they found the site and put a camera on it in no way gives them any right to the spot just as you leaving a blind there gives you no right to the spot. On public land it is first come, first served and common courtesy should prevail. He who gets there second needs to go somewhere else. Seems that if your blind gets trashed you will have a pretty good idea who did it.

Actually I do have some duplicates. You know the regular 30-06 and the 30-06 loaded with the rubber bullet. The silver tip 30-30 and the 30-30 accelerator. There's four 38 specials, the wad cutter, the shot shell, a weird hollow point with a very shiny black coating and one I was told would penetrate Kevlar. My guess it the .38 hollow point with the black coating is a Winchester Black Talon. Does the case have a Winchester headstamp?

My guess is that it was actually for the Camp Perry match, not the Olympics. Yes, to the right collector it would be very desirable.
