My son was 2 years, and 5 months when he found this. I was away bear hunting and my wife had taken him to her parents house in Parks. The backyard buts up to National Forest, and they often hike back there. Well they had Wyatt tailing behind them about 30 yards not to far from the house. He got excited when he found this and starting saying ""dee horn" with a soft r lol. He has always been infatuated with animals and anything outdoors as both sides of the family are avid hunters. I was more proud of this than if we would of killed a 20" boar!

What ever you all want to do. I made up some steel targets, so if you guys have a weekend in mind let me know and I will go set them out. Not a rainy weekend though, the spot I am setting up at will be absolute soup.
-
A couple buddies and myself are talking about putting together a course of 10 or so targets west of lake pleasant for a day shoot. Targets will range from 600yds to 1300yds in course format with 10 or 12 inch plates depending on how far that particular target is. One shot per station. We are thinking last of March, or first of April. Beautiful time of year out there. This would not be an organized event, just a couple of guys who like to shoot. Maybe we could even create a little points system. Alot of guys on here sure seem to be enthusiastic about long range so I thought I would extend the invitation. I will post exact dates and location as we get closer. Trying to get a head count. We are at about 7 or 8 as of now. Bringing it up early for planning purposes. PM if interested

Due to the weather that is coming at the end of the week, I am going to postpone this little get together. Only two on here sent a PM with an interest, but wouldn't want someone to show up. Most likely going to set up next weekend.

Man that is a cool video. Good looking rifles

Congrats on a great hunt. It's amazing what a 25# or so bird can do to your blood pressure!

Jeff Brozovich does a review on the KILO on YouTube. Definitely worth watching, this guy has an unbelievable amount of knowledge and experience in all aspects of long range.
-
And it also does spin drift and Coriolis. We have used the BR-2 pretty much since it came out, but in my opinion the Kilo is a better product for less. The reviews I saw were by a couple of gentleman who's opinion is gold to me, and they seemed to be praising it. Got to give it to the Davidsons (I believe thats who invented the BR-2) for coming up with the idea originally.
-
I've seen a couple reviews on it, simply the best it seems like.

If you go to YouTube and search .338 Edge Rock Busting a video we took this morning will come up. Never filmed a shot before it came out kinda blurry when I put it on you tube. The rock we shot is hugging a bit to the left of the spotting scope but was pretty much center and has a green tint. It's somewhat tough to see, but I will figure out how to post clearer videos in the future, this is my first one. And when I said the windage was dialed right, I misspoke, it was obviously a left correction. I should of listened to dad as we were arguing, I put a little to much elevation in it lol. On my elevation solution I also added .5 moa for Coriolis. So it was shot for 33.25 moa elevation

No big deal there are alot of great spots on that lake. The one I explained to you has been an awesome prespawn spot for me. I have had great numbers on that spot, and you will be able to fish it during the week, the kids should have a ball if the bites on!
-
The .338 gets one patch and no brush about every 12 rounds. Does not get a scrub until it opens up, wich I would say is every 100 rounds or so, but I would have to ask my dad to be exact. The chamber is cleaned after each session with a soft brush and a dab of liter fluid. Bolt also gets a little attention. The other guns get cleaned after every session because they get neglected due to the Edge lol.

If you come out of Burnt head down toward the Canyon dam. When the lake opens up significantly look to the shore line off to your right. It is the Northwestish shore. If you hit Turtle island you went to far. Off that shore you should see quite a few markers. There are several channels that run off shore out about 300yds or so. The depth you want to be in is where those channels go from 13ft or 14ft, to about 20ft or deeper. Star close and work out. Drop shot shot some Minos on 6# or so. I like 1/8 ounce but you may go to 1/4 if it's windy. That's been a great spot for me in March, good luck hope the kids get some! Apache has treated us way better than Roosevelt last 6 or so years. Since the Wallow fire.
-
And even though you may go many rounds with no barrel cleaning, I would still clean your chamber at least every other outing.

And sorry for the change of location, but it's still pretty close to Phoenix and a flat drive. I don't usually set steel targets way out there because with a good spotting scope and a good rock face we can size targets on the face with the reticle and see exactly where our impact was with a bunch less work. And the place we have done validation on paper is not a place I am taking steel targets out to, way to rough. So finding a spot to set out 10 targets at the desired ranges we spoke of while being safe is challenging. In this spot now we will also be looking at targets from West to North, so perfect for an early shoot.

February 18th. We were going to do two days, but we are all just going to shoot Saturday. I want to do a $10 buy in only for those who are interested, you can just shoot for fun as well though. Bragging rights also come in ha. Farthest target will be around 1300yds.
-
I'm going to do 5 or so targets from 600yds to 800yds, and the rest are going to be over 950
-
I went out by Castle Hot Springs, alot of good places to shoot but way to much traffic. So here's the deal. I found an awesome spot in unit 41 while I was archery hunting. We will be shooting into foothills that are backed up by a wilderness area, so it is absolutely SAFE. And we well be able to shoot all the targets from one spot, this is BIG country. Only about a 100yd walk to the shooting spot. No big deer or sheep live around this spot take my word for it lol. If you are interested meet at the Harquahala exit just south of I-10 there is a little pull off. It's 15 miles or so past Tonopah heading West. I will be in a black Jeep Cherokee with conservation plates. From that spot we have about a 25 minute drive. Bring a vehicle with decent clearance. Be there 20 minutes or so before shooting light.

Official "Target Fun Shoot" Thread
Jake J replied to lancetkenyon's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Factory Tika T3 25-06. Don't know the load yet, going to make dad come up with one, give him something to do ha. It has Nikon optics, nothing fancy here. -
Judging by a previous post at 850 yds on steel, your Lapua looks pretty impressive

Feeler For Interest Online Shooting Tournament

I'm in. Il film mine as well -
And I'm not smashing on .30 Calibers. I know of a 300 rum that's coming that is pushing the 230 Bergers, at 2995fps, with with pretty much single digit e.s. And if you plug those numbers in compared the .338 numbers I have, the elevation solution is pretty close out to 1250 ish. The energy is a different story though. I am just a .338 fanatic, but he says he is going to shoot the pants off the Edge ha. So if anyone wants to bring a rifle on Sunday that you feel can compete with .338 class long range guns, bring them.
-
Or we could just say to heck with the betting and just bring any rifle and have a good time
-
Absolutely. Anybody can bring any rifle they want on either day. Most of the targets are going to be over that 800yrd mark and their was some thought that it might not be fair to compete the smaller calibers (.30 and down) against .338's. This was not my idea, so if you want we can have all rifles together with no classes. However I do get the point of classes when their is money involved. Don't compare any .30 caliber or down to a .338 pushing 300gr bullets in that 3000fps range with B.C's of .8 and higher(Granted you have a long range load developed and an accurate rifle). No more than would I compare a .338 to a properly set up .375 Gibbs pushing a 400 and some grain bullet at similar speeds mentioned above with a higher B.C than that of .33 cal bullets. But whatever you guys want to do, I am just looking forward to getting out there and shooting.

I will post the exact location where to meet next Monday or so. Both spots in mind are West of Pleasant with the access going to be by that far West public ramp access point. Instead of going right, you make that left toward the Bradshaw's at the dead end. I will be in a black Jeep Cherokee with conservation plates that read HUNT23S, or in a lifted gray TJ. Try to be by that intersection that I mentioned earlier in the post by shooting light. I will post road numbers/names in better detail Monday. Most likely that intersection is where we will all meet. We are going to shoot the small calibers(.30cal and down) on Saturday, and the .338's and up on Sunday. I am shooting my .338 on Saturday however because it is the only long range gun I care to shoot. If we do a little buy in on Saturday the .338's or larger will not be in the money. Tac you are the only one on here bringing a .338 so you can shoot with us Sunday, or as you mentioned bring your 6.5 Saturday or both, your welcome to both. Should be alot of fun, a couple of us will start setting up earlier in the week, if anyone wants to join you are more than welcome.
