Hunted hard for 5 days not seeing a lot of bucks. Seen a fork horn the first day in the evening. Went two more days when we finally seen two more bucks. Two small three points, but they were too far to get to before sun down. My wife was not trophy hunting, but wanted to get at least a three point. The fourth day revealed no deer at all in the morning. We had glassed several does and the two three points the evening before, but could not find a deer. Then I caught some movement under a tree. It was a lion! I called my wife over so she could see it. She was very excited to see her first lion. She watched him for a few minutes when I heard her say I see another one. So I quickly started glassing where she told me to, and found the other one. So I asked her what she would like to do, and she decided she wanted to try to call them in. So as quick as we could we got into position near where we seen them. I started varmint calling and quickly saw both lions heading in our direction. I told my wife to get ready cause they were coming fast. She could not see them from where she was sitting. I quit calling when one of the lions got close to us. He came up the rise and seen me. Thats when all heck broke loose. He looked me dead in the eyes and rushed me. I pulled my pistol out and shot at about 20 feet, and missed, but the lion kept coming. He leaped at me and I shot him in the head at about 5 feet. The lion went limp and hit my feet. Talk about a close encounter! The 5th day of the hunt revealed only does and one big big bear. My wife wanted to shoot the bear but did not have a clean oppertunity and did not want to wound him. The 6th day was our last day of hunting. We were going to hunt the morning and then leave. My wife decided she wanted to go into the area that we hunted the second day. We didnt even see a doe the second day, but she wanted to because I have harvested two nice bucks out of that area. We started glassing as soon as it was light enough. In about 5 minutes I spotted 2 bucks across from us. We hurried up to get into position. We made it to 440 yards but my wife was not comfortable shooting at that distance. So as quickly as we could we worked our way down the canyon and across. Soon we found ourselves 286 yards from 5 bucks. I was in such a hurry I did not spot the other ones from the other side. She waited for her buck to turn broadside and made a clean kill. What a fun hunt.

The buck my wife shot last week was fighting with another buck. I'm not talking just tickling eachother. They were full out fighting. They were plowing eachother around like it was the rut. Then finally one of them took off running like a whipped puppy, with the other one hot on his but.

We left wednesday around noon. And yes it was still season for bear.

There are 350 permits for the early hunt, wich is more tags than its ever had for the whitetail season.

What can you say. Our judicial system stinks. Its all about who has more money. -
Which rifle is best for coues and psossibly elk?
300 wsm replied to BIGBUGPETE's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
The 270 is plenty of gun for elk, and great for deer. My wife has killed 5 elk with the 270 shootin 130 gr. core lokts. Its all about shot placement. All elk were killed from 50yds out to around 200 yds. All one shot kills. -

Where did he kill this one? -
He did not have permission and was told NOT to shoot that bull in there by the guy. He had him patterned to where he could shoot it way away from any house. But he did not listen and shot him there anyways.

I set mine at least 15'. But would rather have it 20'. It just depends. Do you have a lot of cover around you to blend you in, is there a tree that you can put a stand more than 15'. What kind of shooting lanes do you have.

Archery Kaibab for me, and the wife got unit 27 october white tail
-
On mine I just go to mark location, then I name it, and then I go down to the longetude and latitude and re set it to what it needs to be.
-
I put in for kaibab first choice. I think it will be a good hunt with only 1000 people over 3 weeks.

Make sure both of your limbs are set exactly the same. That happened to me once, and after about a week I noticed that one of my limbs was maxed out and the other one was turned down.

Wolf country: Ranchers fighting comeback of a predator
300 wsm replied to mxslaugh's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Yeah thats a bunch of crap. Those kids should not have to wait for the bus in a cage. If my kids had to....I would sit there with them with a rifle and cap every one of them that was in eye site. -

ABA Bowhunter Happening May 24-26
300 wsm replied to bowhuntinmaniac's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
How come it is at Sunrise? Why dont they have it on state land? I'm supprised they arent making us buy a permit to go to the shoot. -
I think it is a good idea. I think it will help the deer herd in those units out. Only serious hunters will go, and there wont be all of the road hunters that just want to drink beer and drive around. Just like AZOnecam said. It is pathetic around areas like Big lake, and the Kaibab. I just wish they would have added 3B to the list. Our deer herd here sucks.

They can work good on big bulls that are smart. We used one last year on my friends hunt. Sometimes the big bulls will come in, and if they dont see anything they will leave right away. But if you have a decoy up they will come in for a closer look. Plus the montana decoys, which is what I have are light. They also fold up to be put in a back pack.
