Where you aimed and where you hit are 2 different things, I think you just made a bad shot. if you cant remember what firearm you were using how do you expect to remember where you hit it. if you really hit it where you said even with in 2-3 inchs it would be dead. The shock alone from that caliber at that range with that bullet would have killed it. trying to blame the shot on bullets or an angle is just an excuse your using to not accept the fact you made a piss poor shot. everyone makes bad shots, even I did it once in my life I just dont make excuess's for it.

Trapdoor if its any consolation young boys don't try to hard to hunt. they wont until a later age. I don't know why but just seen it over the last 40+ years. None of my friends when I was a kid liked to hunt except one, all my daughters friends dont show any interest nor do my adult friends boys. what ever you do don't push him, he will come around sooner or later.. I have found the boys have very little patience so try to get him on game as hard as you can, I know thats not a hunt persay and just killing but thats life, it might be a good idea to let him take a friend with you guys as well might want to start with some varmit hunting as your in the right area for quick hunts. Ive taken alot of my friends kids and my daughters friends out hunting and the boys were the hardest but they did have a blast and still talk about it today, but trying to get them to hunt again is like pulling teeth. most young boy however do like to go out and shoot targets and at ranges. maybe try that 1st.and before the pig hunt. Daughters on the other hand are gung ho hunting fools, good luck to him on his hunt. and dont worry to much we will come around

I dont know man I agree with oz32p we hunt it every year mainly for yotes, quail and archery deer all year long. been hunting since 1982 I see more and more deer in the last 5 than I have at other times.we dont hunt the roads or 2 tracks either we just walk the nasty steep canyons.. Daughter was at the base of yarnell hill and decided to see how far she could go to the top. she saw more deer in 4 hours than we saw in 2 weeks. she made it half way to the top before the cliffs got to her. I sat on my butt and took a nap. that unit is hard to glass deer and thats one reason why people dont see many as its very thick in the canyons. heck just on the popular roads driving to and from some of the spots we hunt we see then along the hills or crossing the dirt. I was always skepitcal about the number of tags over the years 1200 and surprised every jan during the archery hunt how many we see and some very good sized bucks. we never hunted east of yarnell hill or south of 89. usually hit the hill and start walking. north and up. or some of the other mountain ranges

I can safely say I havent with the .243 with my 25-06 I had a problem with gamekings as the bullet was going way to fast and went right through. Granted it was a 40 yard with shot max load. we usually work our loads up on yotes and see what kinda destruction each type of bullet does at what speeds results can be interesting.

years past it could take over an hour , then they did the fast pass took about 20 mins to an hour. last year they opened up more ranged and with a fast pass it was 5 mins at most times. the whole key is the time you want to practice. if you go during dinner time and late no wait. if you go before shoots good luck. gotta remember there are 2500-3000 shooters there. fridays are worse because everyone is excited, then sat and sunday they relax and have a few drinks with friends and forget all about practicing. we leave thursday am, get there at 2-4 and she runs up and practices sometimes. friday she doesnt and other days she will a few times with friends. we always come back on a monday due to traffic and people driving freaking NUTS remember lots of people goto vegas and laughlin over the weekend and come back sunday, they also leaver friday around midday(not the shooter just regualr guests) so traffice is heavy. seen way to many accidents on the hill just before you get to i-40 by kingman. Watch that speed trap just over the hoover dam going towards vegas. you go 7-8 over you will get a ticket. sunday coming home there is a line of cops there waiting. and on fridays theres a ton of cops from kingman to vegas. clarifiers and verifiers are tricky as you cant really just buy one and think it will work. most shops have the set-up were you look through 2 lens on a string hold them part and move the clarifer or verifier to your liking. the brian I am thinking of is back east heres a link it explains a ton. https://specialtyarch.com/ https://specialtyarch.com/clarifiers/ there also a dealer page on who has what. the dealers should have the tools I think there is 3 in tucson

is that the guy off of archery talk thats an optometrist or something.? he makes good stuff lots of guys here in phoenix use his lens and they are plastic I was told. but the clarity is fantastic. he was coming out with an amber one i read last year that one looked cool. I think I heard globe has a place to shoot Saffords a long way from tucson. I used to hunt there all the time going down that way soon as it opens for archery. surelocs were what she used, I didnt like them too sloppy then she got a CBE and it was really nice. then she got a Blackgold target sight and its the bomb. depending on your eyes 4 and 5 powers are best for spots. dont get plastic only glass PLASTIC LENS SUCK. also get a quality glass it will make a huge difference. I /she has a ton of sights laying around the shop on her bows and on my desk. also get a clarifiers (think tahst what its called ones for scopes ones for pin sights ) or verifier so you can see clearly. she started out using a hha scope and lens 1 5/8 now cbe and one housing I make 1-3/8 with a verde plus lens she was running pins in her site until I told lied to her one day and said I forgot the pin sight and only brought the dot. now she shoots the dot and loves it. The sights above are for her target bows not her hunting bows. the little pink diamond is what she started with and it was scoped and had a stab on in for targets and hunting, then got a carbon rose for targets and saved her money and grew a few inches and bought the 1st fanatic that came out. now I think she has 3 fanatics and the btx 28 which she loves for hunting. the picture is some of her set ups the one laying down is mine experiance. shot one league I sucked and maybe shoot 50 shots a year with it. nice bow but her BTX and far better.

There you go, shoot as many leagues as you can with people you dont know. this will help you prepare mentally. shooting in familiar and or comfortable settings you will always shoot your best, but then when it comes to game time your off.

No shooting chairs everyone as quivers either on back or hip. your going to crap yourself when you see how many people are there shooting at one time its really cool. dont shoot everyday, some people can but most cant cause they get too caught up in scores. I found what works best with my kid was she shot every few days. at least twice a week. cause if you go in thinking your shooting consistent 299-300s you will get disappointed your first not so good shot the your messed up for the rest of the weekend. its a mind game dont go in thinking your going to win go in having a good time and relaxed and you will shoot your best. league shooting is good but then you hit the line with 300 others and your in aw and your mental game is off. does hunting was fun back in the day. we used to do it in Kaibab. Dad always enjoyed it. he was one of those people who couldn't find deer but an absolute blast to hunt with. matter of fact his doe was shot coming out of another hunters tent because the other hunters already shot theres 30 mins prior. they flagged us down while we were walking down a road. Dad still missed a few times yes even at 10 yards on a stupid doe. he finally shot it when I was looking over his shoulder telling him aim higher lower more to the right. we were on our way home in less than 2 hours after the hunt. with 2 does we had arrived form phoenix 1 hour before sunrise that morning. talk about a long road trip.

haha you do know he said Forky right? it doesnt take hunting skill or sneakiness to get with in 12 yards of a forky, even longshooter can get that close to one. Of coarse he would miss even with a shotgun. There’s lots of guys around that have been trying for years to get ANY Coues Deer with a bow. A spike can bust you just as well as a 110”. I’ve killed both with a bow... and been busted by both. Maaaaaany times. You don’t get busted at 850 yards by anything unless you’re hunting with a marching band There are some people that do the same on muleys and still have the same problem let alone not seeing a animal the whole time has nothing to do with coues everything to do with the hunter both rifle and archery, you read about it all the time on this and every other website. I dont care what, how or how big of one someone shoots its always cool to see they were successful. some people to shoot the 1st thing they see and some like to wait, thats a personal thing. for me I killed enough crap in my life, now I just take my kids. if I see something I think is worth shooting I will attempt to shoot it. i dont like deer or elk in this state as it taste like butt, so if I shoot something its going to have to be worth me cleaning it hauling it back to the truck then finding someone to share it with when I get back to town. my kids on the the hand they shoot it they clean it and eat it, preferably before we get to the truck My daughters not picky she will shoot any legal buck or bull. seen her draw on a raghorn bull 2 years ago while a 300 bull was 20 yards farther away (it was 50 the rag horn was 30) she went for the raghorn but didnt like the shot so passed. bottom line a forky is a young and dumb deer, doesnt make any difference the only difference is the hunter.

I am trying to find the info its gone for there website as they changed. basically you shoot 1 300 round ranking round Thursday then they Talley the scores and put you in your flight recurves pros kids all shoot the same no special groups. then you have a shoot off. per flight also on thursday night. heres a quote from a post I made on azbasszone in 2016 when we got back. the impact archery website doesnt have the info anymore as they changed the website. but should be up soon they say face book usually has more info but I dont do face book. I havent shot any of the newer bullets in any of my firearms. I worked up loads back in the 90s and and been very pleased with the results. I usually load a few thousand rounds at a time and because I dont shoot at much as I used to they last years. last time I loaded 220 swift and 243 was in early 2000's . I only use ballistic tips for everything 220-swift 243 308 300 winmag and everything in between. I do have a 223 wssm that I loaded with some silver tips as I got them with the gun, just havent shot it yet and had it for 5 years. might take it out in the next few weeks for yotes

You will be fine. are you shooting the hunter class or open class? get the biggest fattest arrows you can it will help your X count. X counts are key. the booths they have is pretty good, you can find some deals but the thing about it for me is you can sample handle and see all the latest archery stuff and buy it there as well. also thurday night they have a money shoot,lots of people there. The archery shop(impact archery) in vegas hosts it pays out cash. Daughter won her flight 2 years ago, even the pros shoot it. you will 1st shoot a ranking round then the put you into flights according to your rank. I believe it starts at 6pm and it last sometimes pretty late depending how many people. last year I think they had like 300 shoot the money shoot. its a good idea to get the fast pass as well. that way you can go and practice and not wait in a huge long line. the only down side is the getting in and out of the elevators at certain times. you will wait 20-45 mins for a ride to or from your room . they usually opena ll the service elevators as well and that helped thins out a tade. they will have a good time that casino is Awsum, we bring the kids daughter and her friends hit the bowling alley and movies when shes not working the bowtech booth ,now that the boy is over 21 he can hit the slots. funny reaction on peoples face when a 4 foot tall kid with down syndrom is sitting at the slots all night have a good time. one other thing your bound to get a cold.so bring some meds what ever works for you. lots of people from all different countries and lots of kid. and the flu runs rampant at times. keep me posted maybe we will hook up if we head up. and good luck to you. My primary hunting gun is a .243 in ruger m77 vamit heavy barrel(yes old one) for everything from varmits to deer. I use nosler ballistic tips for everything 95 grains. its a tack driver killed lopes at 800+ deer at 500+ one elk at 300 and hundreds of yotes from 20 feet to 900 yards i use a 12x leupold on the gun. Fake edit oh yeah a few rams in texas as well. I reload all mine matter of fact reloading this week as I ran out and down to 30 rounds.

Coues guys remind me of trout(aka gay bass) guys on a Bass fishing forum. they get so testy about the little things a forky is still a forky no matter if its a mule deer white tail couse deer or elk, just plain young and dumb
