Those savages are unbelievably accurate. I have one of the 1st production runs of the 243 striker. tons of p-dogs with it out to 300 yards, yotes are kinda tough but I did manage to get one. also nailed a unit 12b mulie at 30 yards, through a javilina over the cliff by hitting a rock and launching it into the side of it, a texas dall ram around 100 yards with it back in the early 2000's , then put it away and havent shot it yet since. I run the old GTD( Glass Tapered dot) tasco pistol scopes on it. I have them in 2 4 and 6 power. I generally run a 2x. I have found it better for all around hunting unless long range stuff then I use the 6x. but using a 6x at under 100 yards is tough on a psitol. I like that bipod idea I may have to try that, i usually use a tree, rock with a jacket or the side of my leg as a rest you used to be able to find the Tasco GPDs on ebay and at gun shows as they discontinued them in early 2000's. they are probably the most easy to and clearest pistol scopes I have ever used, easy meaning they get on target quick and are super clear and bright. they hold up to 45-70 recoil all day long on my old contenders. never had one go bad. I have a few 4x leupolds and one burris I dont like them due to clarity. one of my leupold broke a reticle on a 30-30 super 14 I was into the old contender scene until they started making the savages.

Have him shoot 6's for about 200-500 rounds, it should loosen up take him skeet trap or sporting clays shooting with it, if it doesnt then you could have someone work it, deburr and polish it. usually its a spring change but sometimes just wearing/burnishing in all the parts so they slide nice, I like 7-1/2s for quail as well and I mostly shoot 20's been doing so since 1969 have a few 1100's I do have one crap semi auto that only likes fast loads but I bet I dont have 100 rounds through it in 30 years. my dads old browning auto 5 12 guage was like that had to shoot heavy loads then about 1-2 years later he shot light loads out of it. but we shot tons of skeet and trap

exactly mine as well. and I always put in on the last day cause a buddy usually calls me to remind me this year i have a feeling he is going to call me a day late on purpose.

I think its both, a Trophy is in the eye of the beholder. you can usually tell a trophy by the pictures that people post, its not how big the animal is its how big there smile it. Iv'e seen tons of older guys with trophy smiles on spikes 2 points 3 points etc I can hunt everyday of the year in this state. lion yotes, archery deer has 3 seasons bear is over the counter. except for yotes who wants to hunt in june and july in the heat? exactly

It does? There is a ranch with a house and a barn I would say 3 miles away other than that I would say 20 miles from any other houses. That I know of. Hey browtine was this buck with in a few miles of some houses? I think I have a pic a buddy of mine took of him in velvet earlier this year, he'd been chasing him hard but never got close enough to get a shot. yours kinda looks like the one on the lower right

Oh yeah there was one unit 8 early rifle bull tag I got the same time as my last lope tag, which were the same dates but in different units unit 8 elk unit 9 lopes, I hunted a few hours in the am then drove to unit 9 everyday for the kids lope tag. had a few shots but nothing over 370 so I passed one was pushing close to 350 he was just a few feet away that a friend called in. I should have shot him but didnt.

Have you killed anything yet? other than yotes and fox's I havent pulled the trigger on a big game animal in15 years, as I been giving them to my kids, I had my fun. but this is the last year I can pass them along so after that the killing starts if I get drawn 2 12b tags 1 lope tag and 2 bull elk tags. and during archery deer I dont generally carry a bow just help them. but thats may change cause I am trying to go out in the next few days and the daughter is working.

it was all those guys leaving from archery hunting unit 6a since it opened. should be quiet for hunting this weekend sene alot of rockets from ca take off here in the west valley over the lat 30 years and a few from New Mexico. this by far was the coolest and most defined. we were leaving costco when it happened
