Camping Trip March 16-20, Need Suggestions
Delw replied to Squirrel n Dumplings's topic in Non-hunting trip reports
Whitehorse lake theres another one up there south of williams (popular one name slips my mind)as well with full hook ups. the you can take your truck and hit the other local lakes. lots of wildlife and lots of fish. plus williams is cool to have lunch or dinner in to give the kids a break. Alamo is good if and only if you have a BOAT, otherwise that time of there year your going to be playing keep away from the snakes theres tons of them out there that time of the year and right next to the shore line. with a 4 and 6 year old its going to be tough to keep them away from the bushs, both places you can yote hunt ;) -

could you take a harris bipod mount, and fasten that someway to a tripod mount? the harris mount parts fits nicely up against a standard shock flat varmit style and or rounded hunting style. I would think maybe take the plat off drill a hole or 2 and it would work. Maybe even put a stuff in it for the tripod. I have a bunch but there all at home and I'm at work I may have one here Ill look later. What does the tripod mount look like? bright side then you would be able to put the plate back on a harris if you elected to do so. -
Anyone know a .243 Pelt Friendly Load?

I like the 17 rem and 222 as well. still wanna get a hornet and a bee in ruger #1. I think The best fur gun is still a 22 mag but 50 yards max then I would say the 17 rem and 222 shot lots of foxs with 17's and they never exited just destroyed the insides. I never shot yotes/foxs for fur just for Ballistic jelly and to see what different bullets would do at different velocities. One bullet I forgot to mention is the old target VLD's from berger and there other target bullets. Shot lots of lopes with them in both .243 22-250 .223 and 220swift. they leave a small exit hole in both foxs and yotes but you have a chance of some tracking cause they just dont open. so ya gotta shoot them where it counts. the .223 puts the same size hole on the way in as the way out with berger target bullets, they just dont expand very much if at all. The .243 puts a dia size hole in in and about a .308 size hole out. The 204 I have heard some good things about it, never owned one yet. -

Higher velocities make things blow up as well as lighter bullets. -

Nosler partitions in the light grain with a med powder load. I cant remember mine exactly but its opens fine most of the time doesnt exit blows the inside to crap. gotta place your shot about middle ribcage and just below the half way mark(just infront of the guts. if you use the heavy weights they almost always pass through. the old barnes x bullets worked good however they fouled the barrel. the bulk winchesters work ok but they vary from batch to batch on how they open. They arent nearly as consitant as nosler partitions. you can try the heavier ballistic tips they generally wont open if you load them light on a yote. but they make a huge mess inside and if you hit a shoulder you wiped out a ton of fur on the entry. Remember on Nosler ballistic tips lighter bullets are made for varmits and more explosive. Heavy bullets are made for hunting and generally not as explosive(believe they have thicker jackets. also speed will help in determine the rate of exapansion. Yotes are natures Ballistic jelly, they were created just for the soul purpose of testing loads -
Deer elk and lopes I hunt with a empty chamber until I see something I want to shoot. for 2 reasons one safety more importantly cause I want make sure its exactly what I want size wise before I pull that trigger. I hunt ducks /dove with an open chamber in the semi and break open in the O/U's. Quail locked and loaded once I see them. Yotes locked and loaded when I start calling. which has screwed me a few times seeing bobcats walking in.

Ours started back in the late 60s Dad would buy me a gun for christmas every year, at 25 I started returning the tradition. went like that till just before he Passed away. The other one is My MIL she gives gifts that are awsum. I always bitched about stuff not being made in the USA. so around 2000 she started getting me stuff that had a BIG MADE IN THE USA engraving. just off the wall stuff Like a 1950s electrical socket. one year is was a old light switch, old ashtray for the 60's stuff like that. I love them the most and always remember them cause they make me laugh

Daughters husband might be coming home for the holidays, short of me driving up there to get him. is there any other methods to get him here? Guess the closest airport is Ontario but its a 2 hour drive and about 300+ bucks for the ride then + airfair. I was thinking of putting him on a greyhound from indio to glendale. but do they have shuttles that run from the marine base to Indio? he just got stationed there today. Daughters coming home to from Pensicola airstation shes a marine there. but hers was easy jump on plane and arrive in phx. Thanks

Oz I must have misunderstood them. I thought they said the replaced the old saw with this one but now I am thinking the saw was a 5.56 and they replaced the saw with another 5.56 not the M240?
