Under pressure loads cause more guns to explode than over pressure I am betting. I'm not good at explaing things well but will give it a try. your bullet runs tight in the grooves, if you actually find one in good condidtion yu will see groove marks in the bullet left from the lands. so with that being said, you need a certain number of lbs of pressure to fire that bullet through your barrel. if you under the pressure needed the explosion has to go somewhere and its usually a spot of least resistant. since the bullet cant make it through(because you dont have enough pressure to squeeze it through the rifled barrel) it will find other areas, the fully loaded case is locked into place by locking lugs on the bolt. so generally wont go through there. it will however blow a hole in the case either at the primer or where ever there is an open space. primer holes sloppy head spacing leaves gaps etc etc. I think I can find some pics later tonight that might help you understand it better, but will have to wait till tonight cause I am buried at work.. I found one years ago from a barrel testing lab just dont remember whos it was. it should the Barrel ,action bolt case etc etc and the gas's moving. it was animated..... Come to think of it I think it was on how the gas's worked on a ar-15 some old gattlin guns pages have some pretty good examples on how they work showing the gas's as well

Its kinda a yes and no about Forrest management. short of clear cutting and paving everything there is really nothing to be done. prescribed burns help in the flat and level forrest it doesnt help in the canyons cause they cant get to them. Kevin brought up Kaibab which is a good example. Back in the 80s they did tons of logging. they also did alot raking up the deadfall so to speak in the big springs and jacobs lake area specifically. The deadfall was made kinda in pyramid shapes but mainly to help the turkey population if I recall. There was a logging operation right on top of the hill just after you past big springs going south. They took out lots of deadfall where they did there selective logging, the area was mainly pines with very little shrubs and brush. other places around the kaibab they did the same thing, usually in the tall pine areas were they were selective logging., in the canyons that surround that part of big springs its solid brush a few pine tree, brush was like 2-5 foot high.. you cant clear that area out do to the rough terrain and if you did you would have huge erosion issues. those canyons are just fire starters waiting to happen, however you can really do anything to them because of the terrain and if you did they would grow back after the next rain fall. Fires are the best thing for the forest yeah no one likes to see it but its natures way of cleaning house. but the main reason why everyone talking about poor forest management is due to the fact that the tree huggers banned logging and pretty much everything done to the forest back in the 80s and 90's, but those where WET years and we had less people in them. Now we are into dry years(but still lots of lightning) with tons of people and well fires happen.

Me too. never abused them and always very super careful where I set them down so they dont get stratched. was out hunting one year for elk and my sling broke. it was a leather sling I made in middle school during shop class 20 years prior. it was my favortie Ruger#1 in 300 winmag and the only one I shot out of 3 of the 300's. anyway sling broke, fell off my shoulder and hit a rock on the forearm, busted a chunk out of the end up it and a small silver mark in the blueing, I was done for the day mater of fact I didnt fell like hunting anymore that season was pretty pissed at myself. cool thing about it is that the pice fits right back and you cant see anything but a small hair line. one of these days I would just buy a new stock for it or fix it but I leave it there to remember to check my slings and be carefull.

always good load with someone who knows how to load before you start doing it yourself. As far as where to start on loads generally best way to start is half way on whats recommended or between half and low. Try to never use LOW limit as certain cal. build really high pressures at the low end. 243 used to be one of them when you combine it with heat certain types of powder and primers. either way what ever you do NEVER go under or over the max your few times around. always look for pressure signs. I have a ton of books on loads, all the speer hoardny nosler etc ect, one I found that I really like is the Lyman( I bought it like 10 years ago). To this day I have still have my pet loads so to speak for certain guns and cal. (2 identical guns rarely shoot the exact same), but when I am loading new stuff like different powders, bullet weights primers etc etc I generally reference a few manuals and looks at the grains they say, then start in the middle of those. I have seen one book say this and in another book same major components have way different grain fluctuation.

SOLD Orvis Beretta 28/ 20 gauge over under shotgun
Delw replied to Phil Carr's topic in Classified Ads
thats a nice looking shotgun, the 2 barrel sets makes it almost irresistible..... I have a beretta in 12 and I love it. dont shoot it much. heck I dont shoot any of my O/Us much but I sure do like to collect them. -
No if your building one for your self you dont need a serial number or any paper work. 80% is just considered a block of metal. add'd should have said 1 2 3 4 or many and your not going to sell them and keep them for yourself. as you can make as many as you want for yourself

I reload for the 308 300 winmag .243 270 25-06 220 swift and many more and still use my RCBS on most rifle calls. I have 2 550's mainly use them one stage at a time once set up on .223 permanently. get a good scale and a good powder measure those 2 tools are most important in being good quality

They are like Crazy and guns too, Daughter came to phx last week and asked me if I could get ammo for her marine buddies They didnt care the cost. she called every store none to be had, and those who had it were one box per customers.
-
Hoarding ammo LMAO thats a liberial term. The only reason people call it hoarding is cause they cant get any. if it was the other way around it would be worded differently I call it stocking up being prepared or I got some cash and and saw a sale, Kinda like mormons do with food who cares, once again people are being labeled for something failed to get. Might want to teach your son to conserve his ammo or reload ;)

yeah you need to be descrete about posts like this especially in Tucson area. heres the problem with Archery and killing yotes in city limits ,were firearms arent allow or just where you have neighbors no matter how far away they are. the 1st problem its f'n tucson area way too many animal lovers in that area, once they see and arrow sticking in a yote or a big hole they will do a door to door search until the person is found. Animal lovers suck and Tucson area has the most. if you use archery for yotes in populated areas the best thing to use is the rubber thumpers, they wont stick in the yote one bit, but will cause internal bleeding if you hit them in the last couple of ribs. they work great and you leave no evidence ;) a arrow with a broad head 9x out of 10 wont drop them in there tracks, they'll run off in a neighbors yard and die usually its some tree huggers yard. personally I like to see yotes, coons and other wildlife in the neighborhoods, but I also am the type of person who understands if I have a cat dog chicken ect that I am baiting predators so wont do anything about it. just chuck it up to a lesson learned. get a bigger dog ankle biters are better bait than than anything else.

you have to be very careful on what is 80% from the manufacturers stand point. as in the early years lots of people were making them and centering the FCG holes which is ILLEGAL unless you have a Letter from BATF. which means if they dont have a letter and BATF stating their lower is NOT a firearm they came and closed them down they can get all the customers info and go after that customer doubtfull on the customer but it has happened to alot of Garage shops and machine shops that sprouted up to just make so called 80% lowers. Only BATF can designate wether its a firearm or not. when the 80%'s came out it was a nighmare for alot of shops cause people tend to push the limits to make a buck. so anyway lets say you have a 80% lower, you and only you can finish it, Build party's are Illegal thanks to that dickhead in Ca back in the obama days. if you have a machine shop or gunsmith finish a lower. that shop must have a FFL manufacturing licence not if's and's or butts about it. and also it will have to be done on a 4473 form like buying a complete firearm. Heres a pic of a 80% lower and what needs to be done, pulled it off yahoo pics

You should be fine if you got the 80% from the same place you got the jig, dont expect one jig from one company to work with others as they are not interchangeable in alot of cases.. youd be best to buy a small drill press as well. to drill the holes as a hand drill flat out sucks and 99% of the time you will oversize the holes and or drill them crooked jig or no jig. remember drill alum as slow as you can go in a drill press or hand drill lots of wd40 tranny oil or what ever. and peck drill the holes with oil in between pecks. if a few bucks isnt the issue I would buy some reamers for the side holes and FCG, drill a tad undersized then ream the hole, reason being a drilled hole in a not rigid machine looks like shoot and is generally oversized. this will cause problems with loose fitting upper to lower as a screwy FCG with issues. want drills and reamers get them from Mcmastercarr. cheap butt drill press from the Chinese embassy. and go slow and routing and drill.

no need to tell you were close enough. grayling would be cool to catch, one that I havent caught on a fly yet. when I was into flyfishing and younger I caught about every american species of trout(except graylin) and salmon(except Alantic Salmon) and every Japanese species of trout and salmon which are the same as American but way bigger(but it was back in the early 70's). The hardest to catch for me was the river run dolly varden (sp) then real golden trout which are tiny but really cool looking trout. There not like the wannabe golden steriod trout they stock everywhere now aday. I haven't caught apaches now that there legal

Couldnt see the vid, but I like that canyon were is that or what creek river is that. i've lived here since 1982 and never been to the white mountains yet. was thinking this fall I am going to take a drive up there and check it out. every year I say I wanna go even make plans but it falls through,

I was going to say ruger but looked at there website and wood stocks are almost non existent any more which is pretty sad. the Hawkeye's have wood stocks but cals are selective, might want to also look at Remington 700bdls I didnt look to see if they still sold wood stocks.

Youth shotgun
Delw replied to Jacob...soaz's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Yeah most shotguns are just a tad too big for shouldering unless there specifically youth. the 1100 (at least the older ones) I think they were called lightweights were made for smaller framed guys women and kids.. I have a 1100 12 made in 72 and my 20 was made in 67 or 68(honestly I forget which exact year but they were close and late 60's and the other early 70's. anyway the stock on the 12 guage 1100 is mush bigger than the 20 gauge. A single shot 20 might be to much of a kick for him so keep that in mind, usually once they kill some thing with it they forget all about the kick. A pump is usually just to long to cycle for a young kid not to mention the kick. My Daughter is small framed and she had trouble shouldering the O/Us but the 20 1100 almost fit her but not quite. That being said The gun she liked best was a single shot Ducks unlimted gun(forgot who made it) in 20 guage 3" mag also 2-3/4 it has a hammer. she didnt like the kick at 1st but once she got a few quail she said she never noticed it again. your best bet would be like you said to take him to sportsman and let him fit a few. if your ever up around cabelas let me know I have a ton of shotguns he could try for fit before you decide what to purchase. -
That picture was kinda in support for what someone said about putting down his own dog Ive done it and it sucks but still had to be done. besides the thread started about some dog that writes on fgbook. then somewhere in this thread I thought I read about some dude who married his dogs mother????? must have been a typo or I read it wrong On the Last sentence, that why you'll never see me use the certain words like Retard, but I also don't complain about people using that term. people are people they say what they want when they want.

HAHA, I made that picture meme or what ever you want to call it over 15 years ago, to use on the girls on AZBZ. some of you guys need to lighten up and not take things so seriously.

that cat you pictured is huge. that kinda sucks April got this one for Anthony our son due to the covid crap and nothing for Anthony to do and of coarse to get the mice in the shop haha yeah right . There at the shop 5-6 hours a day 5 days a week, I'm there 12+ 7 days a week. Hes a pain in the butt when programming, lays right on the keyboard on in front of monitor. He loves the big butt tumbler we have, he sits on it while its on and watchs parts, its loud and shakes like crazy. hes kinda fun to have around though. Anthony and him are best buds Anthony will be sweeping and the thing lays on the push broom and gets pushed all over the shop. Another reason cats are cool cause they go nine lives I think this one lost 2 already, other day he fell through the drop ceiling, land in a box of crap on his way down must have grabbed for the big fire extinguisher ripping it out of the wall sheet rock and all, it fell on top of him. he layed in one spot for 2 hours then started limping when he got up. later that afternoon he was running around tearing everything up.
