What supply outfit do you use?
-
Probably been close to 40 years since I frequented public shooting ranges but I don’t remember being yelled at bothering me as my dads hard knuckle to the back of the head was what got my attention and what I remember today. Now I’m that range nazi. Anyone hunting or shooting with me has to be thick skinned after their second offense no matter their age. Sorry but seen one too many near tragedy

I’m 40 miles from the closest one to me so I trusted what they told me. 30 years and I’ve never had one tell me to go get it certified but then again I’d never paid attn to the date stamp. This power tanks website says it will need to be certified every 5 years and I’m assuming no exchange so probably will have a waiting period for that
-
Another PITA about these things besides the crazy cost is the tank recertification. Probably every 5 years if the same as oxy. I ran my oxy tank out and needed to cut some heavy steel where my plasma cutting leads wouldn’t reach. They wouldn’t exchange tank because past the certification date. They told me about a week for the test. Took them over a month to get it back to me

This happened to me twice on the youth hunt a few days ago. The recipient got the text but he couldn’t open. Both times I just resent and they went through. I’m by no means tech savvy so not sure what the deal was but it was the first time that happened

Cool buck! Congrats!

Colby’s junior deer hunt

Peeled out a little bit! I love it! The enthusiasm on your boys face explains it all! Congrats! -
Navy Arms Rolling block?

I watched a guy whack a 5x5 with a 6mm 95 gr sst at a little over 300. The bull took maybe 5 steps coughing and snorting and laid over. Not my choice but the guy is 66 years old and this rifle has been his go to for like 45 years! He shoots it well! I think if the boy shoots the 243 well and feels comfortable with it, go for it. Especially only a month before the hunt why throw a different caliber, trigger etc. at him

I’ve got a guy that works for me 63 yo, smokes 2 packs a day, lives on peanut butter and jelly and hot dogs. Mom died at like 98 and dad at 95. This guy works circles around the younger ones! ( course that’s not saying much I know! ) But yeah I think he’s one of those guys who’s got the genes!

Life without tortillas, Dr Pepper and ice cream just wouldn’t be life! I do work my azz off and exercise quite a bit but purchased over 80 gallons of glyphosate in 2023 so far so I guess I’m doomed!😂

That’s quite the survivor! Love those rifles! Where are you? East valley?

Just tell your doc that you better not feel both hands on your shoulders during the exam! They like that one!
-
Supposedly the threshold has changed from 45 to 50. The doc we had the last 12 years retired last year and our new younger doc told me this so I had to demand it and it wasn’t covered under the annual wellness bloodwork

Sorry couldn’t help myself! Good advice, I’ve got a customer with stage 4. 49 years old and never had a psa test

Looking for a budget friendly 6.5 Creedmoor.

I was trying to finish it as cheap as I could without putting too cheap of a scope on it and lucked out. Optics planet had Nikon Black x 1000 scopes on sale for $300 so I bought 2 of them. The tupperware stock I stiffened up with epoxy and a couple steel rods in the butt. It weighs 11 pounds is the negative but shoots lights out, just as good as my PRC that I’ve got a lot more into. A different( lighter) stock might be a better route for a youth for sure -

Agreed. Didn’t need a brake but I ordered one from Witt machine and worked the trigger, filled the fore end with epoxy and that thing is a blast to shoot. Bought it for my wife but I’ve used it for a couple of my hunts and had no problem killing 2 bucks past 600. Never thought I’d buy a need more but I still haven’t started wearing the flat brimmed hats! -
The current experiment that G$F is conducting is working well as far as for the health of the mule deer herd period. As fewer people purchase otc tags, they’ll go to a draw for the revenue in my opinion. We live in an area with a big population of stupid mule deer that many drive out to “hunt” that used to result in a month and a half of exposure to idiots that pull their dusty bows out and fling arrows with little practice wounding many bucks that go off and die. Last season closed roughly a month earlier than it used to with only a harvest objective of 5 muleys. I’m pretty much a Whitetail hunter and consider the mule deer around our place pets. Last season was the first hunting season in a long time where those deer got a break! Not sure what the answer is to give responsible archers more opportunity but with the population growth opportunity is probably a thing of the past

Sumbitch I thought he was just kidding! I 100% got his point even though I chose to not use the cams to do my scouting.

Ahh yes Yellow front! Of all the stores I miss, I probably miss that one the most. Picking up the weekly Bob Hirsch Outdoor Almanac was a weekly highlight!
