Son looking for work.. Hard worker and motivated
Sky Island junkie replied to Adicted's topic in The Campfire
If he likes doing landscape construction, I’d nudge him to explore self employment. Trust me there is enough room out there for a young, motivated, honest businessman and I think you’d be surprised how many would give him a chance. There’s a contractor business exam outfit there in Phoenix that helps people study for what’s on the ROC exam. He’s young enough that if he doesn’t like self employment he can go another route. Good looking work -
“Hey Francisco! Hold my Modelo while I shoot this buck”
-
As commercialized as hunting has gotten down there, that buck couldn’t have been a secret. Wonder what they charged to let him kill it?
-
Yeah I was half joking! Who knows what happens down there?
-
Kinda what I was thinking. 100’x100’ high fence pen, dart gun with mucha medicina weekly! What a freak of a buck! Easily over 170” whatever subspecies he is

Crazy how many hunters I know who have no idea how much subsidy money public lands ranchers get to then turn around and stick it to sportsman. Many of these ranchers are by far not low income! Google “welfare ranching in the west” For those who don’t know that the taxpayers have provided a way for them to play cowboy for decades and control sportsman from accessing public lands by just owning as little as 40 deeded acres. This will be an eye opener! Thanks for posting. Email will be sent today

What’s sad is the mental illness this family is afflicted by. She’s in a very dark place, likely similar to one her poor son was in! I can’t even imagine the pain any young person can be feeling to take their own life! I can’t help but having empathy for her losing a child but man there’s no way anyone will be able to reason with her, least of all you! Block the number so maybe this can be cleared from your head! You did nothing wrong!

That’s the familiar scowl brought on by still envisioning that bucks buddy, (twice the size of the one you just shot) that you didn’t know was there until after you killed the smaller one!😂
-
Congrats on a good harvest! 36b is a great unit! I’m gonna have to give Mike crap for not offering me a hat!

This might not be the case everywhere but from what I can see in most of southern Az. because of the decent winter precip we had last year, mesquite’s, oaks, manzanita and other non annual plants didn’t miss a beat. In the last month my wife and I’ve noticed mesquite putting on their 3rd set of beans. Not sure if I’ve seen that but probably because of the heat we’ve had later than normal. Grasses have definitely suffered because of the poor summer rains. If they’re wrong about this winter and it’s a dry one, next spring and early summer will suck

Awesome first buck!

Probably some of the most heart felt yet funniest comments I think I’ve heard a manager express after a season
-
I helped a couple guys on this hunt. The buck we were after on Friday bedded with his buddies at 720 and killed him about an hour later when he stood up. Went out Saturday and Sunday with another friend who didn’t kill but not because he didn’t have the opportunity, just being picky. I was shocked how active they were especially on Sunday with the full moon

I read the article and then finally read the notice of claim from desk top which my phone wouldn’t let me do. Wow! Much more descriptive! What a bad deal all the way around if that’s how it went down!

I’m not from that part of the state so I’ve not heard that lake is dangerous to swim in. Why?

What supply outfit do you use?
-
Probably been close to 40 years since I frequented public shooting ranges but I don’t remember being yelled at bothering me as my dads hard knuckle to the back of the head was what got my attention and what I remember today. Now I’m that range nazi. Anyone hunting or shooting with me has to be thick skinned after their second offense no matter their age. Sorry but seen one too many near tragedy

I’m 40 miles from the closest one to me so I trusted what they told me. 30 years and I’ve never had one tell me to go get it certified but then again I’d never paid attn to the date stamp. This power tanks website says it will need to be certified every 5 years and I’m assuming no exchange so probably will have a waiting period for that
-
Another PITA about these things besides the crazy cost is the tank recertification. Probably every 5 years if the same as oxy. I ran my oxy tank out and needed to cut some heavy steel where my plasma cutting leads wouldn’t reach. They wouldn’t exchange tank because past the certification date. They told me about a week for the test. Took them over a month to get it back to me

This happened to me twice on the youth hunt a few days ago. The recipient got the text but he couldn’t open. Both times I just resent and they went through. I’m by no means tech savvy so not sure what the deal was but it was the first time that happened

Cool buck! Congrats!

Colby’s junior deer hunt

Peeled out a little bit! I love it! The enthusiasm on your boys face explains it all! Congrats! -
Navy Arms Rolling block?

I watched a guy whack a 5x5 with a 6mm 95 gr sst at a little over 300. The bull took maybe 5 steps coughing and snorting and laid over. Not my choice but the guy is 66 years old and this rifle has been his go to for like 45 years! He shoots it well! I think if the boy shoots the 243 well and feels comfortable with it, go for it. Especially only a month before the hunt why throw a different caliber, trigger etc. at him
