I appreciate the recommendation and glad that you're off to a good start with yours. Barrett has a cool site! It always feels good to transition from knowing what the interwebs say your new rifle should do ... to physically producing the results! I didn't see them offering a model in .300WM though and I am fixed-in on a folding chassis. Some may find it a little odd, but I prefer the full-length barrel and the folder to knock down the size over the weight savings of a shorter/lighter rig. Weight savings is sorta secondary (within reason) for this rifle build and it's intended use. As mentioned, an MPR will be lighter than what I've been carrying the past couple seasons and have no qualms about the weight - 14.1lb's soup to nuts with bi-pod, loaded mag, sling, etc.... There will be a time where it's no longer an option and I will physically have to make some concessions with the equipment I choose to carry on my back or in a situation where I am putting in extended miles on a hunt. My typical backpack hunt has me hiking in anywhere from 6-12mi and then hunting within a 2mi range of that area. Occasionally we'll move camp a short distance, but that's not common. I'm sure you'll see me posting again in the future and it'll be asking for opinions on the latest 'featherweight' rifle instead...

I like where you're going with that! Set on top of a .338 and mounted in the bed of my Tacoma... I'll definitely spend less money with Kifaru hunting that way!!

I've seen this company kicked around randomly but have no frame of reference on the quality of their stuff. With a price of $590 on Amazon for the Midas BTR GEN2 4.5-27×50 AHMR SFP IR MOA HD, it's hard to imagine that would be any comparison... Mind sharing a little on why you would recommend them?
-
I like the price on the V4 line for sure. I've heard good things about their glass though. Definitely one to take a deeper look at. Thanks!

What would your suggestion be? Like I mentioned to lancetkenyon, I've also been looking at the Leupold Mark 5. The ATACR is outa my range for sure.

The MPR at 8.4b is a full 2lb lighter than what I've been carrying for the past couple seasons, which is a Savage 10 Ashbury Precision in 6.5CM with a Vortex Viper PST 5-25x50. I'm not really counting ounces as much as maintaining a bit shorter profile while packing in. The MPR is listing for $1,800 - 2k with a few stores online. The folder has been a feature I really like and am looking for with this next rifle for sure. Nice recommendation in the Kimber's! I gave them a hard look before locking in on a folder. What other considerations do you suggest on the glass? I've been running the Viper line on everything I own for years and have been really happy there, especially the Gen II stuff. I was looking to step up my game a bit and landed on the NSX after also considering the Mark 5 from Leupold. I have no experience with FFP or would likely be opting to go with a Razor.

Nah... Because a couple of rounds to site-in or load develop in an area that is low risk for fire is far from irresponsible. Common sense amongst an informed audience was my logic.

Nice work on teaching them right my man! My family and friends expect to do community service as some portion of our trip. If we see something jacked up, it's almost always that we're doing something about it. This is exactly the stuff that should be commonplace practice for the hunting community - nobody else is gonna do it. We were in the Chevelon Canyon area this past weekend scouting for the youth cow hunt this fall and the place was bonkers. I've never seen so many people out there. Same was the case the prior weekend out by Apache Maid.

I couldn't see you having a problem working up a new load if you don't go to an obvious spot and assuming you're not running a bunch of rounds.

Tough turning point on the conversation. While I think many can agree that there are some cultural differences in the way we see people from Mexico treat the land, it's safe to say that we as American's are adopting the wrong philosophy of caring for this place. Who's influencing who? Replace Dodge truck full of Mexican's with - line of 6 RZR's full of red-blooded Merican's with coolers full of beer. Same same. Actually, animals seem to prefer the trash....
-
Good timing. I was wrongly critical of the call to ban fires early on and up until I made my way to some other corners of the state. It dried up out there wicked fast.
-
That's a good callout man. Would seem pretty obvious, but obviously not for some...

That post is somewhat what inspired me. I will say that as bad as that is, I'm grateful those pigs at least used garbage bags and the crapper to contain everything. WAY better than using firepits to burn their garbage and/or leaving it all on the ground. Judging by the looks of the woods, the toilet paper shortage was a hoax... I went to the Apache Maid area for the 1st time a couple of weeks back and the site we camped had a past tenant that had left their Homer Bucket toilet in the ground and stashed 3 medium-sized trash bags behind rocks on the hill FULL of their waste. The whole area along the north looked rough with trash. Super sad.

I'd be all over this gun if it were in .300WM! I'm picking this same rifle up in place of my rifle I just posted up. Can't believe it isn't gone... -
In Tucson? Willing to ship?

Anyone have a Form 4 come back sooner than expected?

Where did you catch that provision Edge? I couldn't find anything to support your statement. Certainly wouldn't be a shocker though... Here's what I had looked at - https://www.congress.gov/bill/116th-congress/senate-bill/3548/text#toc-idC62A2A4676F44E44B6A0D677C490FD17 DIVISION B—RELIEF FOR INDIVIDUALS, FAMILIES, AND BUSINESSES TITLE I—REBATES AND OTHER INDIVIDUAL PROVISIONS Sec. 2101. 2020 recovery rebates for individuals. Sec. 2102. Delay of certain deadlines. Sec. 2103. Special rules for use of retirement funds. Sec. 2104. Allowance of partial above the line deduction for charitable contributions. Sec. 2105. Modification of limitations on charitable contributions during 2020.

Solid share Curtis. I find myself struggling to find the reality of this whole thing and try to stay grounded with stories and information like this one. Many on this website (myself included at times) don't see the severity of this virus. Fortunately, there is only a hint of political spin in this story toward the end. I find it to be a strong and very real message to those of us not in the middle of a real fight like those in NY. This COVID deal is a hard one to get a fix on for sure.

https://www.fs.usda.gov/detailfull/coconino/alerts-notices/?cid=stelprdb5339811 Not generally speaking. Some are closed seasonally. Not all.
-
Not sure how many other districts across the state followed suit, but Coconino Forest had every road closed with gates locked over the weekend. They are now showing a number of roads open online that weren't as of yesterday. Had a couple of friends head up north this weekend to get outdoors and found nothing but locked gates. Not cool.

Cool finds! Your neighbor Bob rescued me and a couple of buddies from a long hike out years ago when we stumbled onto his place on foot. Tons of great history down there and not a better time of year to in the Bradshaw's than now!

Crazy to think that Horseshoe was just drained down to 7% I think it was just less than a year ago. Pretty cool to have all this moisture coming through!

Nice share! I bird-dog this thread for a kind of social temperature check along with some of the marginally funny humor. Adding some good fact-based resources isn't a bad idea!
