I've been in deep and sitting and been able to time the sounds of vehicles circling the area. At altitude with low humidity sound travels far. After a while you start betting yourself on make and model. When I was younger I went way too big the night before opening day on a cow hunt blowing off steam. I drove to my walk in spot at 8:30 and saw a small heard 50 yards off the road. They didn't spook, I made sure I was on the same side of the road as they were, and I filled the freezer.

I fixed it for you.

Last post on this thread for me. Cheers to the OP if you build it, I would love to see groups and DOPE. I have a customized Ruger No1 in 6.5x.284 that shoots ragged holes at 100 yds and can carry that same accuracy as far as I've stretched it yet. You can reasonably expect the 26 Nosler to get 150-200 fps faster with a 140 grain bullet than I can achieve and blow me out of the water with a 160gr bullet.

I wonder if he even Mtn Ops ? saw a homeless guy wearing a "wilderness athlete" hat by superstition springs mall this week lol. probably going to be me some day It's important to have goals.

With good DOPE you can put holes in paper without enough energy to kill an animal at an identical range. Energy=penetration.

I would disagree here. E=m(v*v). I know there is a strong stance and arguments against weighing sectional density into the equation, but SD is in direct correlation to mass. Heavy bullets for caliber will produce higher BC bullets. Higher BC bullets mean sustained velocity over distance and improved terminal energy on target.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I go around them if I can. I realize it's not always possible, but I try. I've also tried relocating them, I don't recommend that.

I'm getting excited for Dove season!!!!
Allforelk replied to Big Browns's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Heck of an action shot Lance. Dove opener gives sportsmen a bad name. Getting peppered sucks! Being in your spot 1.5 hours before sunrise only to have someone trying to park like they are hitched to your vehicle sucks! Picking up after the dirtbags that surround you come 7am, when you should be drinking beers on your patio and cleaning birds, sucks! -
Thanks Griz, I never knew what they were called. I always called them Reed birds, because that's where I saw them.

The pattern on the wing looks like a young woodpecker of some sort. That's my best guess. Don't taze me bro...

It's a REAL hot 6.5, but I don't think it will beat a 300RUM @ 1000 yds for energy. Totally different animals though.

Tractor supply has a 5x8 walk up on sale for $599.

Very nice! Another huge and beautiful velvet buck down this year. I can not wait to see what else comes in this year. I think we might see some giants from the late seasons too.

I'm located in the east valley. If we are close to each other in location, maybe I could meet up with you and your dad for a burger and I could give you some starting points. 24b is a special place and I would bet is very close to the hearts of quite a few on this website. Feel free to send me a message if this works for you.

8/14 @ 14:52. That is just pretty. The fawns are adorable. Hopefully one is a little buck and made a ruckus in front of your cam.

Youth rifle poll....... Need some input
Allforelk replied to Shooter McGavin's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
110 gr partition @ 165ish yds broke a rib on the way in and went lung, heart, lung and broke two ribs on the way out. There are much better bullets out now for .25 cal than in the early 90's. -
Youth rifle poll....... Need some input
Allforelk replied to Shooter McGavin's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Is 257 Roberts a bad word here? I used my savings to buy one out of the Republic classifieds when I was 12. My pops paid to have it bedded by Scott Medisha. Still have it. It shoots sub .750. I like the 1/4bores -
Yes... there are some very cruel and corrupt people out in the world. But dogs... are innocent, loyal, and a blast to have around. They will follow you to the very end. I am not looking forward to when my dogs are forced to "retire." I never had to deal with the death of a pet yet.. Let alone, my german shepherd/husky mix is not just a pet but like my first child and only son I have. Not toad related, but my best bud that I got my sophomore year bog college is starting to circle the drain I do believe. He's 12, had a good life. Kids love him, I love him although he is a pain in the asss. Especially in his old age! I'm in the same boat with my Sadie. I try not to think about it but often do. It is funny how obstinate they get when they get older. It's like their giveOshite meter just breaks.

Sounds like a BS covery story fabricated by over privileged D-Bags. I'm running this by a buddy who works Scottsdale PD to see if my theory is right. I suspect he has had to endure similar BS.

I was 11 when I witnessed my first poach. Unit 9 deer huntil in the late 80's. I was raised right and hated these guys immediately, it still broke my heart. Not old yeller, but my eyes were moist. My uncle and helped the G&F guy gut and retrieve bullets from the Buck and the Doe shot from the cab of a pickup truck. We had been stalking the animals from a trick tank. When we walked up after they split there was a still burning Winston at the base of that tuft grass you see there. F poachers!
