Once in a lifetime last day buck
Mr. Natural replied to bonecollector777's topic in Mule Deer Hunting
Tall, wide...beautifully symmetrical. Congratulations! -
Congrats! What kind of calling were you doing?
-
What everyone else said. They both blow chunks. I would cut the cord in a heartbeat, but the wife spends way too much time on the couch and has no other vision of the future.
-
My preferred method is: 1) Cut the heart open length-wise (top to bottom) to expose the inner chambers 2) Trim away any fibery (if that's a word) areas inside the chambers 3) Cut into thin slices cross-wise (side to side) 4) Coat with flour/salt/pepper mixture 5) Fry quickly in hot oil or lard (lard tastes best of course!)

what to do when an angry bear approaches?
Mr. Natural replied to portas.d.ace's topic in Black Bear or Grizzly Bear hunts
The dates in the names of the videos are correct, so the first video was actually earlier (May, during the unit 27 spring turkey hunt in case you couldn't tell ), and the second one with mother & cub was in July of another year in 5BS. You may have noticed the mother poke the cub with her nose after it caught up. I think she was scolding it for lagging behind. -

I have found that yelling at bears doesn't always achieve the desired result. -
I don't get the bear regs??
Mr. Natural replied to CatfishKev's topic in Black Bear or Grizzly Bear hunts
Apparently only one female was killed by a hunter during the hunt. I think the only way the annual limit would come into play is if the dept had to euthanize 2 female bears in unit 28 earlier in the year for some reason. Or one by the dept and one by a hunter... -

Mr. Natural replied to CatfishKev's topic in Black Bear or Grizzly Bear hunts
"The Annual Female Harvest Limit is comprised of any female bear killed by a hunter or the Department" So I am guessing if G&F had to euthanize 2 female bears in unit 28 for some reason earlier in the year, the hunt would never have opened in the first place. Regardless, if the female harvest limit has been met for the hunt, the hunt is closed. -
Ha, I must have caught it in the midst of being updated. Anywho...unit 33 archery bear for me, tag 9 of 10.
-
This may be old news to some, but if you have a G&F portal account, even though the applications still say pending in the status the hunt details (hunt number and tag number) are filled in if you click the more details link.

$25 for me...it is either Goulds turkey or bear since that is all I applied for.

I found a pretty nice Coues shed while bear hunting (unsuccessfully) in the Chiricahuas this weekend. As it lay: A better look:

Hi Folks, I'm a new member here. I thought I would introduce myself by sharing a couple desert muleys I've taken the last few years.

Very nice!

Ditto. I have heard rumors of feral pigs in many locations including the ones mentioned above. I have actually seen them along the Colorado River in the Havasu NWR, and as mentioned you cannot legally hunt them there.

Tell us about your elk rifle, and cartridge?
Mr. Natural replied to Stray Horse's topic in Elk Hunting
Savage 111 LRH in 7mm RM, Leupold 4.5 - 14 x 40 scope. I am currently shooting factory ammo (Fed. Prem. 140 gr NP which are shooting quite well) because I have not had the rifle long. Since I didn't get an elk tag this year I have a year and a half to work up loads for Berger 168 gr. HVLD's. -
I don't specifically follow any diet, but my normal diet is very similar to the paleo or "caveman" diet. I primarily eat wild game meat, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and legumes. I do eat some processed foods, like bread, pasta, ice cream, etc., but often meals consist of just meat and a vegetable, salad or fruit. My diet has just naturally evolved in that direction as I have gotten older.

I got these pics 9 years ago, and have posted them on a few other sites over the years, but some here may not have seen them yet.

This is kind of an old thread, but still pretty close to the top of the pile. Hill climbing is my primary means of staying fit - for hunting and pretty much everything. My year-round routine usually consists of four laps up and down a local mountain, two days a week. Most of the year I do mornings, but switch to afternoons in the winter when the mornings are pretty cold. Mid-summer I am out there at oh-dark-thirty to get my laps in before it gets unbearably hot, hiking by moon or even just star light. Hiking in the dark is a bit sketchy in the summer and I occasionally resort to using a headlamp, especially if it is overcast and all moon/star light is blocked. I have seen snakes out there, mostly tiger rattlers, but have seen one blacktailed rattler (I think) and one coral snake. When the monsoon hits and the mornings are still pretty darn warm and humid, I cut back to two or three laps. Four laps works out to 6.25 miles and 4,700 ft. of total elevation change (2,350 up, 2,350 down). It is definitely more interesting than a tread mill at the gym! Here is a short time lapse of the route:

What part of the "rim country"? I see antelope in the ponderosa timber in 6A from time to time.

Well, not as funny, but...

7mm Rem. Mag & 168gr Berger HVLD loads?
Mr. Natural replied to Hoss50's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Keep us posted if you would please, I will be watching this thread. I have a brand new box of 168 gr VLDH's for my 7mm RM Savage LRH, I have not started working up a load yet. -
Cabelas rimfire ammo page regularly has .22 mag in various flavors. But limits of 1 - 5 boxes apply.
