Now don't get me wrong I am no cyber scouter. But I do fall in the catagory of guys who is willing to share my knowledge with somebody who is in need of it. Last year I was able to help several people who i had never met be sucessful on their hunts. One guy simply asked if someone could give him a place to start in unit 8, Gave him a few pointers and a few areas to check and he was able to harvest his cow. Had my buddy ask if i had any small bucks coming to water in to any of my spots last year. He wanted to help his friend tag his first archery buck. I set him up on a tank i hunt that had a funky little buck hitting it. He was able to harvest his first archery deer. Helped My buddy and his wife tag their first elk last year too. My point is that instead of being so quick to clown somebody, Think about if you did'nt have that one person in your life that taught you what you know about hunting. Not everyone is fortunate enough to have that person in their lives. Keep that in mind the next time you see someone who might need a little direction.

What's with all the clowning on cyber scouters?
KingJeff187 replied to KingJeff187's topic in Elk Hunting
I have been fortunate enough to have around 90% of the people i have helped out, give me a run down of the hunt sucessful or not. Never hurts to get a surprise pack of backstrap steaks for my efforts either.. heck My buddy gave me his roof rack and light bar for getting him and his wife tagged out. I Help because i love the outdoors and if sombody wants to learn how to enjoy it by hunting, I consider it an honor to be the one to help them learn the ways to find sucess in doing so. we are very fortunate to have lots of public land in Arizona to hunt on, Part of that is having other people in "YOUR" spot. To me it just adds to the hunt to have to deal with "variables". -

For me sharing information is no different than when I hunt my spots and i run into guys who havent seen anything all day and i've already blown 4 stalks that day. Those who take the information and put the hard work in along with it deserve to reap the benifits. Those who gather information to try to half butt their way through a hunt rarely suceed in my opinion. -
I shot him in 2011 and did'nt get him scored till earlier this year. He was 81 and change. The scorer said if i had him scored when i shot him he would have probably been at least and inch bigger cause he could see the shrinkage on my mount. Still My favorite trophy for sure.

All of the information i shared was in private messages, I understand how much the internet has changed sharing information. -
In 2011 My father, my brother in law and I all drew 19A rifle tags with a combined total of 4 point (2 each and 0 for my bro in law) The draw is just that. luck. tagged all 3 goats opening day. I will probably never shoot a bigger goat than the one i got so i'm content to wait till luck strikes me again. Let's see your buck Here he is on my wall

So who on the Page will be taking a youth hunter out for one of the JR's hunts this year. I will be taking my 10 year old daughter and 11 year old nephew on their first elk hunts this year in either unit 22 or unit 23. As for Myself , My dad, his neighbor and My cousins husband we'll be hunting late rifle bull or cow in unit 8.

I helped my buddy and his wife fill their first cow tags last year on the early cow hunt. I hadnt hunted the unit for years and i could not believe how much it had changed. It took us until the 3rd morning to find our first herd. They both managed to fill their tags out of that herd. I refused to hunt on the Big Bo, for my own reasons so that limited the area we hunted. There was one monster bull, 4 small 6x6's and 5 or 6 spikes along with about 20 cows in the herd we found. Was cool to watch them fill their first tags. I will be hunting bulls in unit 8 late rifle this year. Good luck to you.

My father, his neighbor, my cousins husband and I drew late rifle bull tags for unit 8 this year. Hands down my favorite unit to hunt elk in. My family has harvested lots of elk on the late hunt. Best of luck to you. Time to fill the freezer.

I love hunting the summer season. The rattlers can be pretty fun once you get to know them..haha This one kept me company while i set a tank one day. He eventually met his end with my .40 once he decided to come a bit closer.

Here is a picture of a buck i got on to and inside 100 yards on twice last summer. Unfortunatly he did'nt make it to December for me to get another crack at him (guy shot him during rifle season). Hands down the biggest coues I have ever been on. Hope he left some of his genes in the area.

New to the group. figured i would share. I was able to harvest my first coues buck with my bow on December 15. went in to a spot that i hadn't hunted for quite a while with my girlfriend. Pulled into my glassing spot and as i got out of my truck This buck hopped out of the tank just below me. I grabbed my bow and headed his way. He held up in the wash just below the tank and I was able to send one his way at 60 yards through the top of a tree down into the wash. My arrow clipped a branch and sent my arrow to the right and right through his neck. He spun up the hill spraying blood and held up under a tree. I was able to circle around him to 4o yards and put the finish on him. He is not a giant but for my first with my bow I am very happy.

So My daughter and nephew drew JR's cow tags in unit 22. Last year i got my buddy and his wife tagged out on the early rifle cow hunt in unit 10 last . The herd they harvested Their cows out of still had vocal bulls in it and this was the 2nd and 3rd week of October last year. My question being, since unit 22 is a little lower elevation could the elk in 22 still be semi rutting for the JR's hunt if the weather stays warmer like it did last year? I think it would be awesome if i could at the very least curiosity call a cow in for my daughter. Any thoughts or experience with this would be great. I have spent plenty of time in 22 but never actually hunted it for elk.

How many animals have you harvested in Arizona
KingJeff187 replied to Seldom Drawn's topic in The Campfire
I've been hunting in Arizona for over 20 years now. I've killed 8 bull elk (6 spikes, a 4x4and a 5x5. 1 antelope (82-3/8"). 4 mule deer (1 Archery, the rest rifle. 3 coues deer (one with my bow and 2 with rifle) and 4 javalina all Archery. -
I'll be heading up a few times before the hunt. But I know the area and elk I'm pretty sure we're going to hunt. My dad has a cabin just north of payson so we'll be hunting in that area.

Thanks. I'm pretty familiar with the area from deer hunting it. But if I run into any hang ups I might have to take you up on that
