Arrow speed and long range shooting

I'm no "technical" number cruncher. so for what its worth, I shoot an older DXT i shoot 400 spline arrows with 100 grain gravedigger broadheads. I shot My mule deer in 2014 at 76 yards (arrow was 20 yards past the buck in the top of a tree. Last year I shot my coues buck ay 60 yards (again full pass through). Both deer expired within 40-50 yards of where the first shot took place. I practice out to 100 yards pretty regular. Honestly i feel that practicing out to that range makes me a lot better archer inside of 70 yards. As the more common shots feel much closer and my confidence level is much higher taking those shots. Bottom line confidence is King. The ability to know and feel confident that you will hit what your shooting at at those distances helps to eliminate mistakes while taking the shot when it presents itself. And as far as string jump, if a buck is dialed in on you when you shoot they will jump the string,it has happened to me on bucks inside 50 yards way more than it has happened to me with bucks outside of 60-70 yards. bottom line if they are watching when you shoot they can always jump the string no matter what the distance is. Just my 2 cents.

    WTB 15x56 binoculars

In all honesty My buddy picked up a pair of Oculus 15x56 last year before an elk hunt I helped him on and they were pretty dang nice for what he paid for them. They are made by vortex and Thay have the same warranty. I believe he paid around $300 for his. Before the hunt his son (with special needs) knocked them off the tripod and broke them, He sent them in and had a new pair 2 weeks later. Can't beat The customer service of Vortex/Oculus. Just My 2 cents

    Using horses

I have had many buddies hunt antelope out of state using horses to do just what your talking about. I can tell you it works a lot better then those dang Zebu cow blinds. watched 2 guys chase a herd of goats all around on my 2011 19a hunt. The goats werent buying the 7 foot tall cow that was walking around..haha

    12A and 12B archery draw

Thanks for all The input and info fellas. I think it's settled I'm going to put in for The archery 12A and 12B hunt and cross my fingers with 2 points. It's no big deal if i don't draw the tag. I have a late rifle bull tag for unit 8 and my daughter has her first elk tag for unit 22. So I will be in the woods either way. Thanks again

    12A and 12B archery draw

Ok, so after looking at the deer regs I have realized that the 2 rifle hunts i wanted to put in for are during the same time that my 4th child is due to be born. I have decided to put in for archery in 12A and 12B. With only a few bonus points for deer right now I know i probably will not draw the tag. That being said I don't want to be "That Guy" so before putting in I am just curious on Thoughts and opinions of the hunt, area, and what challenges I may face on the hunt. Thanks in advance.

    12A and 12B archery draw

good to know. I am definatly not picky. I would love to shoot a gaint deer but would be more than happy with a decent 3 or 4 x.

    12A and 12B archery draw

I have 2 points currently. If its' the 3rd best archery tag in the state, Then what are the 2 ahead of it in your opinion? I have tagged deer with my bow the last 2 years OTC both in 24B one muley and one coues. Just looking to change it up and hunt somewhere besides the desert.

Need south east Valley vet help

when My dogs got into it and my Boxer got Pretty Beat and cut up By My Mastiff I took Her to the Higley road pet clinic. It's on Higley and the 60 Just north of the 60 on the east side of the road. I was pretty impressed with the service and i was also surprised when i got the bill. They had to keep her over night and my bill was still only like $300. Which i thought was good for including an over night stay and stitches in like 8-9 different places. Hope you get things figured out for your dog. Best of luck to you.

    Usery Pass 3D league

Thanks for the info on the course and targets. Think im going to poke around online and see what i can find in the way of info on the leauges that They have. Shooting the block is getting old in the long off season. DART league at AHQ is a pretty good time. Might have to look into that. That's not too far from my house.

    Crazy Antelope

He looks pretty beat up, Breathing real hard. I've seen those goats up there for years heading to 27. The goat i shot in 19a in 2011 had some big scars on his neck that looked like at one time he got pretty jacked up in a fight. He was a big goat that i'm sure could handle his own. I'm guessing he probably got the scars early in life before he got big enough to have the upper hand.

    Broadheads

Look no further. 100 grain GraveDigger COC. I have to do ZERO tuning to get them to shoot and hit just like my field tips. Have killed my last 2 deer with them love em Muley in 2014 at 76 yards and my coues buck in 2015 at 60 yards.

    Surprise antelope tag!!!

It's called "huntgpsmaps". It's out of Montana. I would take 3-5 days off ahead and 2-3 for the hunt. If there is a big one left on opening day he won't make it till the second day. It's different then some of the northern units where they go in and out of the trees. They aren't any secret bucks in 19a! The avatar buck is the one I killed in there. Scored 79 6/8. Not quite 80 but I round up! ^^^^^ He is 100% correct. If there is a good buck running around it won't make it till day 2 of the hunt. Like I said we shot all 3 of our goats on opening day in 2011. 2 in the Truck by 9 am. Shot mine a 3:30 pm in the afternoon and then hit the processor in chino valley (back then he charged $90 to do the whole goat) smokin deal i thought. and if rounding up is the trend Yotebuster Then mine was 82"..Haha Nice goat in your profile picture.

A strange thing happened at the post office...

Congrats to your daughter! My daughter also drew her first elk tag this year unit 22 JR's tag. What tag did she draw?

    Surprise antelope tag!!!

I understand how you could have been confused by my location description. My intention was to indicate That I was closer to the 169/69 hwy when I shot my goat. Rather than the northern and western part of the unit. so in a matter of speaking I was in the very south east corner of the portion of the unit that was open. My description was kinda shitty. To my knowledge they do not open up the far east part of 19A ever or at least not in the last several years to my knowledge.

    Surprise antelope tag!!!

19A (north of AZ Hwy 89A and that portion south of AZ Hwy 89A that is east of Fain Rd, north of AZ Hwy 69/169,and west of FR 151/643) Buck antelope 30 only one hunt in the regs. Same one I had in 2011 @flatlander i was Just west of the FR151 when i shot mine. The other 2 we shot came off of the fain ranch which is the open portion of the unit south of 89A. and you are correct Perkins is north of the 89A (east of chino valley. same with the other deeded ranches in 19a.

yes sir! tag number 429 for unit 8 late bull for this guy
  25. KingJeff187

    Surprise antelope tag!!!

We filled 3 tags all on opening day. If you scout enough you will find a Dandy Buck. I shot mine out towards old Chery road heading out from The Dewy Junction. The other 2 goat we shot came off of Fain Ranch. There is always at least 1 decent buck running around Fain Ranch.Watch out for the 7 foot tall cows during your hunt ( We saw a guy chasing a herd of antelope with one of those Zebu cow blinds) It was pretty comical to watch..HaHa
