Ive been hunting archery deer over there for about 8 years now. Theyre usually prettyvocal in august. First weekend I ever hunted that unit I had a 6x6 walk directly under my treestand. Closest I've ever been to a live one, I could have reached down and grabbed his antler. He was screaming opening weekend of archery deer! God, I love 27!

I actually find that Obama has been pretty honest. He did say he was going to change the country didn't he? He's created so much racial tension and economic stagnation, I'd say he's probably set us back a good 20 years at least. Not to mention making us an international joke. He did just what he said he would do.

27 is kind of a weird unit. It gets a lot more rain than anywhere else in the state. It doesnt look it now since it burned, but the whole area between alpine and the rim used to be impenetrably thick, like a rain forest of coastal Washington more so than any other place in az that I've ever seen. Ive had two elk tags for that unit in 07 and in 09, both years the rut seemed to be 'late' and the bulls were pretty quiet. Its a different environment and I think they maybe do act a little different over there. If theyre not pushing cows by now then theyre eating and resting up for the games to begin. But theyre in there, thats for sure.

There's a good many of us that aren't too awful fond of the draw system, but we just don't have the herd to allow led flingers to go unchecked. Offers are given every year for trips to NY Off of our lease from Orange county, we can ask for and recieve over 200 deer tags, FREE, to be used year round, day or night...We do not ask for them, to the dismay of NY DEC, "But, But, Everybody else gets them...".... When a hunter, with a sportsmans licence, can shoot a deer with a bow, a rifle, a muzzleloader, and two Rifle doe tags, Bear and turkey tags(one Spring and two fall tags), those 'extra" 200 tags seem be too much beat-down on the herd... And offers seem to pop-up here on CWT.com to hunt NY, but not many take the trip ...??? I hope they keep coming. I'd love to do it some time. going to Nebraska in about 4 weeks for my first crack at full size whitetails! Can't wait!

The 3 year old has been scouting with me for javelin for the last 2 years. He doesnt understand exactly what we are doing but he has fun being outdoors. The 6 month old isn't quite ready yet. We are doing a family camping trip to my elk unit in a couple weeks though so we can relax some and scout some at the same time. Thats what its all about. Get them outside and make it fun for them. Kids that age love throwing sticks in the camp fire and pebbles in the creek/lake/water hole about as much as anything in the world. I cant wait to take my 2 year old camping next year.

I actually had a couple nights like that in college, and the next morning always found me looking for three things 1 coffee 2 icee hot 3 a shot of penicillin There ya go, if theyre not in the hills, check the waiting area at the nearest little clinic

They can be dang tough to find sometimes, no doubt about it. Last one I killed I got on the first day, but the one before that: 8 days just to find my first herd! All you can do is keep after it.

27 is a great elk unit with some prime habitat. The deer and elk there are fat and healthy for a reason. They are there! If theyre having a hard time getting in on calling, then change tactics. I know about a dozen wallows in creeks up there that have wallows that are beat down. Put up a blind or stand and get comfy.

Some good ones on here. Mine are: #1 Help my daughter get her first deer #2 Finish my deer slam with my bow (1/2 way done now) #3 Shoot a nice 4x4 muley above the treeline

Thats really cool. You're probably the only one on here that has that positive story to tell.
-
Wow! What a beast!
-
Nice job! Congrats on your first bull!

If you can't find someone closer to your side of town, you can send it over here and I'll have a look. If its something that can be drill out and inserted you'll be looking at the price of a thread insert plus a 12 pack of new castles. Is there at least 1/8 material around the stripped thread?
-
Guilty! I admit it..... Sorry guys... If one of you guys with an elk tag gets skunked, can you mail me the tag so I can see what it feels like to hold one....
-
Hadnt considered that but you're probably right. I think there's a rule against electronic sights. Seems like even sight lights are not allowed, or are they now?

Im not super experienced with bears, but ive seen quite a few over in 27. Smaller ones usually look pretty skinny and gangly like a 6ft tall 13 y.o. kid. Big ones usually look like a barrel with little stumpy legs. This one looks very big to me.

What an awesome bull! Congrats to him!

Surprised it took them so long. I thought there'd be ranging rifle scopes and and bowsights years ago. Cool idea, and like everything else, it's only going to get better, smaller, lighter and more accurate as time goes on and the design gets refined. It'll be nice to have one less item to carry around.
