You aint seen nothing yet. Wait to read about the brute I'll miss in December!

Our neighborhood is pretty new and still under construction so we dont get too many. Had a pretty good turn out last night though, probably 30 or so. Spent the evening on the front patio with the outdoor fire pit going drinking Alaskan ale and seeing all cute little costumes float around. It was a good night.

Congrats! Both nice bucks, but that forky is amazing. Ton of mass on that guy, unique trophy for sure.

Good luck on your hunt.

Their rubbing and making scrapes but havent seen much cruising going on. Its been very warm and a full moon so that hasnt helped with day time movements. I'm told the rut should be starting in the next week or two. -
Congrats! That ones gonna be great eating!

I need some advice for December hunt.
mattys281 replied to Ethicsovereverything's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Most people, especially new hunters, get discouraged too easily and give up on an area too soon. Find yourself a nice saddle that has some good trails running through it and thick cover on the north side. Settle in and stick around for 3-4 days and see what turns up. Deer move around a lot in az, especially during the rut, so they will not be in any one spot every single day. You just have to wait it out. The best skill you can develop is patience and the sooner the better. Good luck! -
Nice! Thats a big ole nanny doe! Congrats to your little one!

Digging the new '16 lineups so far!
mattys281 replied to rageinthesage's topic in Bows, arrows, broadheads
Me too, bud. I'm constantly fighting the temptation to upgrade, but can't force my tight fist to part with the cash, especially not after the Hoyt fiasco of 2013. That PSE is dang nice looking. I think that's the nicest looking cabon bow available right now, although the bowtechs are pretty sweet too. -
Congrats to you guys! good luck on your elk hunt.

I don't see enough spread or tine length to think 100+. Looks low 90s to me. Sweet buck to have as a property pet though. I'd love to be sitting out back having a cup of coffee and watch him amble down onto the grass.

Congrats on an awesome hunt! Great pictures, thanks for sharing your story with us.

Question about hours and pay as a salaried employee
mattys281 replied to PRDATR's topic in The Campfire
A lot of people are hesitant about things like overtime, etc. I've been salary for more than 6 years and my current salary is about 3x what my hourly wage was when I switched, + I don't lose money if I'm sick a day or two, and I know exactly how much money I'll make every payday, which is great for budgeting. If you're good at what you do and want to 'move up the ladder', you will end up being salary at some point. Hourly wages can only move up to a certain point, salary positions can go up faster and way beyond that point. -
Congrats on the new grandbaby, and making it past another milestone. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't you also have a little daughter in diapers?

"Practice? We are here talking about Practice?"
mattys281 replied to Lazy-H98's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
LOL! Thank you for posting this, im glad im not the only one. I havent shot my bow in several weeks, which isnt really that uncommon the last couple years. Seems l just ke im always too busy and end up going 4-8 weeks without touching it. So the day before yesterday I went out after work and set up at 40 for the first shot: used my 20 yard pin.... what a maroon! -
Congrats to you guys!

Looks nice to me. The hunt is all about the chase, not the horn. It definetely ups the challenge to set yourself a limit or to focus on an individual deer, rather than any deer.
